So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

BurntSausage I’m on the History of Westeros Podcast FB group. I’ll ask on there what was said and post it on here.

escapade1234 · 14/05/2019 20:47

I think Dany’s mad turn was signposted long ago. She’s become more power-crazed overtime. She can only rule with absolute obedience. She wants everyone to fear her. She has murdered a lot of people along the way. The Tullys was Ramsay Boltonesque. She knows nothing about Westeros or its people yet she wants to rule them because of a belief in birthright. Her entitlement knows no bounds. She is a foreign invader and I’d have been happy to see her and her dragon shot down last night.

I think a lot of tv reviewers haven’t been paying attention.

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 20:48

Yeah, I think D&D dig Cersei big time (and in fairness Lena’s portrayal of her is amazing) and gave her a much role on the show than she would have had in the books.

The fAegon storyline had so much potential in the books, I really want to see how it pans out. This is at least in part driven by my total girl crush on Arianne.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 20:49

summer - that is something that has been bothering me about TV Dany's destroying Kings landing - the people didn't love Cersei, Dany had no real reason to think the people wouldn't both fear and love her if she had stopped the attack when the bell rang. If fAegon is beloved by the people who think he is a dragon then the whole story is a lot stronger.

SarfE4sticated · 14/05/2019 20:52

Ah thanks @agirlhasnonameX that makes perfect sense.

I can't work out what I want to happen next. I wanted Danaeris to be good, i believed in her, but she has completely lost me now. Jon Snow is being really wet and ridiculous, it's his duty fgs. I've even lost track of who could rule now. This last series all feels very rushed, and I feel a bit 'over' it now tbh.

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 20:53

@BurntSausage

"A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing." (Maester Aemon)
" I will take what is mine with Fire and Blood" (Dany)
"You don't want to wake the dragon" (Viserys)
“Be a dragon? (Olenna)

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 20:55

Remember when Dany locked that bloke and her own servant in that vault to die ages ago? She's always had a streak in her.

As an aside, I just cannot believe that next Monday is going to be the last Game of Thrones EVER!!!

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 20:57

yumyumpoppycat from Dany’s House of the Undying visions: “A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd.”

If the cloth or ‘fake’ dragon is fAegon, then he may well be welcomed by the people of KL.

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 20:58

sweetsummer I think you're right, I can see it play out exactly as you described. Although the 6th book is called Winds Of Winter (obv) and the last is a Dream of Spring- do you think Cersei will die, the Long Night and the taking of KL (from FAegon)will happen all in Winds of Winter? I guess it could end after the Long Night and the fAegon/Dani could happen in the last book though. I think I have it in my head a Dream of spring will be light and happy Grin😂 Hypothetically of course, I don't think we will ever see the last book.

I actually think The Bells stayed true to GRRMs story overall. War is never without cost to the innocent, revenge brings only destruction and self sabotage, good and evil merge and twist.

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 20:58

Outofinspiration yes, and she fed a bloke to her dragon to send a ‘message’ to Meereen nobility. She said afterwards “he may have been innocent”. She never bothered to find out.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 20:58

Maybe that was part of why we could only see drogon - it was representing her becoming the dragon.

I do quite love the way the signs have been there from the beginning - just like with Arya - and also how they are balancing each other out.

BurntSausage · 14/05/2019 21:00

Ooh thanks SweetSummerchild!

Cottonwoolmouth · 14/05/2019 21:01

Well I’ve made my mind up.

I’m a fully committed Danny left on the throne supporter.

It was a close call between her san Cersei (but she appears to be rubble dust now)

Jon is out of his depth. Sansa doesn’t deserve it. Danny has been through shiiiiiiiiiiiiit to get where she is.

Let’s ave it next week!

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 21:04

I do wonder about Arya and Gendry on the Iron Throne? He does have a claim after all? And Melisandre said about bringing back that guy with loads of lives (sorry can never remember character names!) to fulfil the purpose of saving Arya didn't she? I know Arya then went on to kill the NK, but she could have also talking about ruling?

But then again I can't see Arya in that life.

Also thinking Sansa and Tyrion, they do seem to have a bond, but I don't know how that would come about unless Tyrion was revealed as a Targaryen, but it's a bit late for that now isn't it?

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 21:06

agirlhasnonameX I think it’s too complicated to predict. I think Victarion will provide Dany’s fleet. I think Euron is unpredictable - he may side with Cersei or fAegon.

Then there’s the greyscale epidemic brought by Jon Connington.

Then there’s Stannis and the Battle for Winterfell/Battle against the Freys

Lady Stoneheart has to be dearth with

Sansa is still in the Vale, Arya in Braavos and Bran in the cave and Jon is dead.

Dorne.........

Anyone who thinks this can really be wrapped up in two books is a bit deluded. It may end up being more rushed than the TV series or (more likely) never finished.

Morgan12 · 14/05/2019 21:11

What does Euron do in the books that's so bad?

I can remember reading about him before he was in the show and people were saying he was worse than Ramsey. But he wasn't at all?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 21:15

It’s not so much what he’s done (though the sexual abuse of his brothers is a low point) but what he looks capable of doing.

Google ‘The Forsaken’ chapter from Winds, it is bloody brilliant.

CodenameVillanelle · 14/05/2019 21:15

He cuts out the tongues of all his crew I remember that, and some other truly horrible stuff

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 21:16

I’m a fully committed Danny left on the throne supporter.
I think I am too actually. In an ideal world it would become a democracy of sorts or Jon would rule happily ever after, but GoT isn't an ideal world and I can't help but want a little more twisted of an ending. I think it's the least expected thing.

Saying that though, I do want a happy ending for Arya. Tyrion too, but he has reason and cause to die. It would irritate me if they kill Arya since she killed NK, wouldn't seem right. I don't think they will kill everyone off though and there probably will be more than one happy end.

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 21:16

Morgan12 It’s his sample chapter from the Winds of Winter (actually it’s written from Aeron’s POV) which is fridghtening.

Here is a beautifully narrated version. Be prepared...

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 21:16

Euron went from dangerous scary powerful man to Jack Sparrow

He also had a dragon horn, called the Dragonbinder. Apparently could control a dragon. Sad we never got to find out.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 21:19

This is good about euron book verses show

CodenameVillanelle · 14/05/2019 21:20

He tied his pregnant mistress naked to the prow of his ship after cutting out her tongue...

Outofinspiration · 14/05/2019 21:21

I know this must have been said elsewhere, but Euron always so reminded me of Lord Flasheart from Blackadder!

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 21:29

There is no way they will be finished and unless secretly the two books will actually be in two very long parts, I just can't wrap my head around how he thought at any point 'two should sum it up nicely.'

I hate show Euron more than book Euron by far though, despite how brutal he is in ASOIAF. I wasn't even satisfied by his death, just relieved that he was gone. It's the only time I've wanted Jaime to beat someone in a fight.
