So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

I want to know what was on the piece of paper Varys burnt at the beginning, and so you think that he was using little girl to poison Danny?

JasperRising · 14/05/2019 18:50

SweetSummerchild I had forgotten how good the brotherhood were and then they just vanished for three seasons!

I read a theory earlier that some of the abandoned plotlines and anomalies came about because until the last few seasons the producers could never be sure that HBO wouldn't can the series due to cost so they would abandon storylines to focus on other elements or introduce alternatives to book subplots because they didn't know if they would make it to the book plot. Not sure if I entirely buy the theory but I guess there is some plausibility in that shows do get canned fairly regularly.

It was a letter stating Jon as the true heir. I'm interested to know how many he sent before he got caught.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 18:56

He was writing from day time to when it got dark if you look at both scenes so I'm guessing quite a few ha

MsMarvellous · 14/05/2019 19:02

So much of the older script is lifted almost directly from the book. I'm rereading and rewatching from the beginning at the same time 😂. Probably why it was so good.

BitOfFun · 14/05/2019 19:05

I haven't followed these threads, and I'm regretting it now! Has anybody been able to explain how Cersei could be pregnant with Jamie's baby when she hadn't seen him for months?

JasperRising · 14/05/2019 19:13

BitOfFun tis a mystery to me!

Before this week my theories were a) westeros has shrunk so he travelled north in mere days or b) she was lying to Jaimie and/or Euron and was never pregnant.

But then she was talking about a child at the moment of her imminent death so not sure even Cersei would see any point in lying - if she wanted him to die thinking well of her she could just not mention the baby. Also he didn't mention her lack of visible bump... So I can only conclude a) which also fits with ridiculous travel times elsewhere is season 7 and 8. But is ridiculous compared with early seasons.

Lweji · 14/05/2019 19:14

Drogon may even turn on Dany over John

Or think fuck this and torch both.
Then they both stand there naked, start making babies and all ends well.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 19:15

Lweji that definitely would be a wtf moment Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 19:24

I don't really want or expect the horror movie ending but could be interesting if jilly's baby is born with blue eyes and she and sam are peering in at the crib wondering if they are blue blue or ww blue. My only other ww ending might be if Drogon is killed and dany slips away and stabs herself in the heart with dragonglass in grief/insanity.

Do we think episode 5 was the last wtf moment?

fedup21 · 14/05/2019 19:33

they said something about the start having been changed so that now you hear different lines being said to Dany like Oleanna telling her to rent she's a dragon.

What does this mean?

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 19:38

I got it that there was some sort of cheesy voice over as it was happening, of Ollenna from another season when she told her to 'remember you're a dragon'

TitilatedOcelot · 14/05/2019 19:44

Haven't RTFF but agree that it all seems a bit rushed. Still enjoying it, and hoping we get to see the last two books to get the full story.

It has suffered since they ran out of books, but I think this series is a slight improvement - maybe because they had more definite input from GRRM on what had to be covered, so less making it up as they went along?

Anyway, saw this on twitter and it sums up the decline Grin

The Dothraki and Unsullied seem to be regenerating. There are more of them every week.

Still going for Dany on the throne but alone, Jon fucking off North, Arya fucking off in another direction and Sansa staying in the North with two fingers raised at Kings' Landing.

I genuinely think the only death that would properly upset me now would be Davos. I love Tyrion but even he isn't clever enough to get out of this.

CodenameVillanelle · 14/05/2019 19:47

Arya can't use Jon's face - the faceless men literally cut the faces off the corpses to use. Jon still has his face.

JasperRising · 14/05/2019 19:48

fedup and Prequelle having listened to the start of the video again, it sounds like US audiences get a recap before the episode. And this week they changed it a bit so it included lines that were said to Dany in earlier seasons one of which was Oleanna in season 7 reminding Dany that she is a dragon and should act like one. I think there were also lines all the way back to season 1.

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 20:01

Just a thought.....

There are a lot of comments out there from very vocal Dany fans saying that ‘George write her so much better - this isn’t what she’s like.’

Well........ At the Red Wedding D&D had Catelyn slit the throat of Walder Frey’s wife.

At the Red Wedding GRRM had Catelyn slit the throat of Walder Frey’s learning disabled son.

Sometimes, D&D actually ‘tone it down’ somewhat.

That’ before we get into Euron (the paedophile) and what Ramsey made his wife (not Sansa) do to those dogs...

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 20:10

Summer - so do you think Dany will do something worse in the books? I guess worse might be now flying north and doing the same there? The whole battle against the NK will have been for nothing?

Help12345678910 · 14/05/2019 20:10

The white horse was the horse from the King's Landing guy!!!!!

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 20:15

yumyumpoppycat I really don’t know.

I’m talking more about the ‘sack of King’s Landing’ we saw this episode. Many fans are saying she’d never target civilians, but I’m not so sure. I think it pretty much will go exactly like this in the books - but if she ignites all the caches of wildfire under the city then it could be far more devastating.

I think this is definitely the third ‘WTF’ moment D&D talked about - I’m hoping it’s not going to get worse in the last episode!

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 20:30

sweetsummerschild that's the first thing I said after I watched the episode, I think she will do pretty much exactly the same in the books. If so, I hope it's partly written from her POV, at the point she flips anyway. When they all come back together the writing will probably feel a little different.

BurntSausage · 14/05/2019 20:34

In America they have a ‘Previously on Game of Thrones’ snippet before it starts, like they used to do on 24 if anyone used to watch that 😁 this week seemed, apparently, to reach quite far back and emphasise Dany’s Targaryen hot headed moments, reference to being a dragon etc. I’ve looked on YouTube but can’t find it.

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 20:37

agirlhasnonameX yes, the difference in the books is that we’ll have her POV.

My guess is that Cersei/Euron will be dealt with before the Long Night and she’ll return from it finding fAegon (loved by the crowds) on the throne. This will cause her to think back to Viserys who ‘wasn’t a real dragon’ and it will go from there.

The ‘on the ground’ POVs will be from Tyrion - who will have big flashbacks to the Battle of the Blackwater - and possibly even Arianne.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 20:37

I also think looking purely at the books I would be less surprised by Dany destroying King's landing (from what I can remember I didn't like book Dany). I could imagine it being partly accidental if she hits a huge cache of wildfire and the devastation makes her carry on and destroy everything.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2019 20:39

sorry cross post - I think that makes much more sense than cersei being on the throne - if there is a fake dragon on the throne and she wants to prove that she is the real dragon.
