So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

Dany's descent seems quick not unbelievable.

I agree. She’s always been ruthless. Remember the Tarlys?

I guess it’s the scale of this that’s been shocking.

RoginaInWellies · 14/05/2019 11:56

Is Brienne the only one who know why Jaimie became Kingslayer? She should then become Queenslayer (although she hasn't sworn herself to Dani), perhaps to save Sansa. That way there is at least some point to the whole Brienne-Jaimie development.

Cottonwoolmouth · 14/05/2019 12:00

I agree moomin

Jonsnowsghost · 14/05/2019 12:02

@orianabanana the horse was clean in the episode I watched 😱

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 12:03

I’m wondering how they’re going to loop those in Winterfell back in?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 12:15

Watching the trailer for next week, no sign of Jon. I wonder does Dany take him prisoner?

OrianaBanana · 14/05/2019 12:19

@jonsnowsghost - this is it?

I reckon that either Dany will summon the surviving noble houses or they will have received letters from Varys and come to kings landing as a result.

Thinking about the speed of Danys descent to madness I think the other problem I have is that I don't understand the timescale they are operating on and what happened during their travel. Only a week passes for us but how long were they travelling from Winterfell for? I imagine weeks. What happened between her and Jon in all that time? Did she continue to feel isolated like at the feast? Did she receive messages from lesser houses saying they didn't want her as queen (we know Dorne got in touch to pledge support but the others?). She probably had a lot of time to stew and think and then Missandei dying is the straw that breaks the camel's back

Extra series might have felt paced better but I am not sure I would have watched another 5 series (GRRMs suggestion) not to mention the cost of production and people wanting to move on.

Watching the trailer for next week, no sign of Jon. I wonder does Dany take him prisoner?

I thought he was one walking next to her at the start through all the rubble and smoke in first few seconds?

MsMarvellous · 14/05/2019 12:29

Jon, Tyrion and Davos were walking the wreckage together in the opening of the trailer for next episode weren't they. Or do I need to watch again?

Jonsnowsghost · 14/05/2019 12:32

I swear the one I watched didn't have that much blood on it, just a few dirt smudges 🤔

Jonsnowsghost · 14/05/2019 12:32

Because I thought it looked rather clean after being in battle!

Honeyroar · 14/05/2019 12:33

Jonsnowsghost the horse was spotless in the episode I saw too.

OrianaBanana · 14/05/2019 12:33

I do wonder if Varys had any play left - did his letters get out did his kichen maid stop trying did any last conversations have an impact on other characters. I wonder if Sansa is done as well or has she got a plan.

I wondered what Varys and the girl were up to but the mention of poison upthread totally makes sense. He took off his rings remember and left them in the chalice before his execution, wondering if they contain poison he left for the kitchenmaid, like the jewels in Sansa's hairnet. Why else did he carefully take them off before going?

Dany's descent seems quick not unbelievable

To me it's too quick to be believable. If she had killed the surrendering soldiers and Cersei despite the bells, fine. But she destroyed the entire city. She burned thousands of innocent women and children alive. She's been a champion of saving innocents until about 2 episodes ago.

It's just another writiing failure in a long list from this and recent seasons.

SpeckofStardust · 14/05/2019 12:37

As soon as I saw the wildfire explosions I just had this feeling this was all a Tyrion set up. He planned this with Cersei back before he left for Winterfell. He turned on Dany the day she razed the Lannister forces with the gold train, tried to kill Jaime and executed the Tarlys. Bottom line for Tyrion is his family. He is first and foremost a Lannister.
Cersei had the wildfire caches all set up and ready and Tyrion knew this because he was in on it. Those bells weren’t a signal for surrender, they were a signal for a fake surrender. The idea was to draw Dany and her forces into a triumphal march into the city and then the wildfire caches would be triggered to obliterate them while Jaime and Cersei were safely in the network of tunnels beneath Kings Landing. Only Dany didn’t buy the surrender, she heard those bells and knew she’d been double crossed so she went all ‘you woke the dragon’ on the Red Keep.

I think Tyrion’s gonna have some ‘splainin’ to do next week.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 12:39

The wildfire was underground caches left over from the days of the mad king, no way was that a Tyrion plot. Tyrion truly believe in her.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 12:40

Tyrion also cared very deeply about the innocents. He wouldn't have risked their lives setting wildfire off.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/05/2019 12:41

the horse was spotless in the episode I saw too.

It had blood running down its legs when I watched it.

Bizarre.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 14/05/2019 12:41

Jon is in the trailer for next week.

I want all of the heads of the houses (plus Tormund) to arrive just as Dany has had Drogon melt down the iron throne and give Jon Snow his King of the North/rightful Targaryen heir molten valyrian steel crown, just as Khal Drogo did to her brother back in season one.

Not actually expecting that to happen, but I don't think he'll be making it to the end. I'm still hoping for a 'higher purpose' for his resurrection by Melisandre and the LOL.

But then, I'm also still hoping for a bit more insight into Bran and the 3ER so my expectations are a bit too high.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 12:42

The horse was covered in dirt/blood all over it's side when I watched it, at first I thought it was a white and brown horse but it wasn't

JasperRising · 14/05/2019 12:44

Talking of clean/dirty horse (I saw dirty). Does anyone know if US viewers get a different intro or a recap? Was watching a YouTuber talking about their best moments and they said something about the start having been changed so that now you hear different lines being said to Dany like Oleanna telling her to rent she's a dragon. But I didn't notice any voiceover at the start (and we had subtitles on) and have never noticed any on previos episodes for them to have changed...

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 12:45

They don't have cheesy voice overs do they?

Lweji · 14/05/2019 12:46

Speaking of iron throne, surely it must be under tons of rubble. Or was it in a special room immune to all the destruction?

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 14/05/2019 12:47

I definitely saw a dirty horse, and didn't interpret Tyrion's actions as being a plot with Cersei at all.
