So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

I think it's all about what you have and what you don't.

Dany used to have people, Jorah, khal drogo, the baby that never was, Missandei, ser baristan, her relationship with Jon even her awful brother. Plus the dragons. Now she has one dragon (who frankly isn't a good influence) and that's it. Her loss is off the scale. Remember what the queen of thorns said in dorne about just wanting revenge. And Grey worm even more so, he's never had anything except Missandei.

Whereas Jon and Sansa and Ayra still have each other and their home. And Bran and Sam and Brienne. They are a pack. The lone wolf dies.

Lweji · 14/05/2019 12:47

The horse was covered in dirt/blood all over it's side when I watched it

Yes. I noticed that in my second viewing.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 14/05/2019 12:49

It didn't appear that the whole of the Red Kerp had been reduced to rubble, so the Throne Room may have escaped destruction.

Lweji · 14/05/2019 12:50

I also think Tyrion was sincere. He did want to save his sister, but not defeat Dany. I think he believed in her to the end (i.e. The rampage)

ThorosOfMyr · 14/05/2019 12:50

The horse was covered in blood. Go back and watch it and if it still looks clean you need some spectacles! Grin

I'm just really disappointed they've had the chance for a good, stong female ruler but they're all just portrayed in the same way in the end.

Agree with this. But perhaps Yara and Sansa save the day???

I enjoyed the episode. Daenerys always had it in her. All this 'I must take back the iron throne, bend the knee' etc etc. She believes her own hype. Plus now she is fully alone in a companion sense - Jorah, Missandei no longer there. She has always been wary of Tyrion I think.

I actually liked the Jaime/Cersei ending. It was clear Cersei knew it was over. Am surprised she didn't top herself though. Perhaps Brienne will find love in the arms of Tormund??

Bran's whole story is surely to reveal Jon as Aegon. Thus our understanding that Robert's Rebellion was all built on a falsehood as such things often are.

I have no idea how it will end!

Jonsnowsghost · 14/05/2019 12:53

I watched it on Now TV before the UK version and it was definitely clean!

SpeckofStardust · 14/05/2019 12:54

That’s the point, I don’t think Tyrion really does care more deeply about the innocents than he cares about his family. He never bets against his family, right? From when he found out Cersei was pregnant I’ve seen the change in him. He betrayed Varys because Varys did truly care about the innocents and the realm and would never have supported the Lannister dynasty. I think the reason he told Varys about Jon was to enlist him to undermine Dany by spreading the word and maybe kill her while Tyrion stood back ostensibly keeping his hands clean.

NunoGoncalves · 14/05/2019 12:54

Agree with this. But perhaps Yara and Sansa save the day???

Yeah. To me, it seems obvious that Arya will kill Dany.

It also seems quite likely that Sansa will end up on the iron throne.

ThorosOfMyr · 14/05/2019 12:56

@Jonsnowghost how did you manage that? It airs at exactly the same times??? Confused

Go back and look at the horse.

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 12:58

Sansa on the throne would be a great end for me. Or even Sansa as ruler of an independent North.

One thing that would really salvage this series is if Bran and his super warging / TER skills are put to use in some way next episode. I guess killing Drogon is the most obvious application.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 12:59

Horse was dirty. There's loads of screenshots from US sources

bigKiteFlying · 14/05/2019 12:59

I though Tyrion was desperately trying to save his bother and possibly unborn niece/nephew and clinging to hope that Cersei might capsulate before all the innocents in the city got killed.

I think he totally believed in Dany- thus he betrayed Varys – and now he doesn’t.

Tyrion made a lot of mistakes recently – but they were him being out played mainly by Cersei he certainly wasn’t working with her.

I think Dany no longer trusts Tyrion and he’s lost faith in her – I don’t know what the outcome of that will be.

TheNumberfaker · 14/05/2019 13:02

It’s available on Now TV after the 2am version. I watched it at 6am on Monday morning.

MissMary0fSweden · 14/05/2019 13:09

The horse was covered in blood. I mean, it still looked like a white horse, but filthy.

I did wonder if that might have been the last we see of Arya?

And I think Jon might kill the dragon rather than Dany perhaps.

JasperRising · 14/05/2019 13:14

Maybe Arya will go back to Winterfell. I know she said she wouldn't return when she left but that was before the Hound told her to go and she experienced kings landing being sacked... That said whilst it is nice to imagine she retreats and settles down to normality I can't see how she could given the things she has seen and done (I'm guessing westerosi counseling services are lacking)

ElenadeClermont · 14/05/2019 13:16

I agree about Dany's losses, but this whole series was about the losses borne by the Stark children. For the most of the time they were alone among hostile people. They did not know for certain the others were alive till last season. They all thought they have lost every family member and their home.
We all react to grief differently.

NunoGoncalves · 14/05/2019 13:17

I did wonder if that might have been the last we see of Arya?

She's quite prominently in the promo for next week looking very angry at Dany from the back of a parade of soldiers.

MissMary0fSweden · 14/05/2019 13:18

Ha maybe not then Grin

bigKiteFlying · 14/05/2019 13:18

But perhaps Yara and Sansa save the day

I'm wondering if the North and the Iron Islands will declare independence.

Varys said power resided where men decided even if they didn’t know they were doing that will the 7 kingdoms just ignore Dany.

I wonder if Bran and Sansa will have knowledge about the spears and how to kill dragons and fortify the north. Plus Sansa has form for worrying about feeding and equipping her people - Dany just destroyed a city and its resources meaning she can't then use them. Dany already thinks of Sansa as an enemy – if she heads north I could see Dany dying there though do they have time to head back north in one episode?

ChipsAreLife · 14/05/2019 13:20

My horse was covered in blood and dirt too.

I overall liked the episode but I am a little annoyed Cersei didn't die alone as she has done some horrendous things. And it does feel rushed.

Dany has gone mad, the suggestion she's grieving and lonely doesn't mean she would be so destructive and kill so many- that behaviour indicates you've lost your head. I just think the recent losses has triggered it but she's shown signs for a while.

My concern for last episode there will be loads of loose ends but maybe that's for our benefit so we can carry on speculating!

Jonsnowsghost · 14/05/2019 13:22

You can watch it on Now TV after it has aired in the US. How weird, maybe the light was shining on my tv wrong Grin

ChipsAreLife · 14/05/2019 13:23

Does it not air at 2 a.m on sky as that's when it airs in the US so you can watch it at the same time?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 13:30

Not that the show has explored it particularly well, but I think the realisation that Jon’s claim is better than hers has thrown her completely.

Her whole life she’s been brought up to believe in her special destiny to rule Westeros. Virtually everything she does is in pursuit of that goal. Then bam, it’s taken from her. And by someone she loves, which probably makes it worse.

And she tries to make that go away by silencing it, but it’s irrelevant, because the people will never look on her as a leader anyway.

She knows she’s done and she gives in to vengeance (a known Targaryen trait).

ThorosOfMyr · 14/05/2019 13:34

Does it not air at 2 a.m on sky as that's when it airs in the US so you can watch it at the same time?

Yes it does.

NurseButtercup · 14/05/2019 13:35

Now TV version airs later, this week was from 3.30am. Initially it was aired at the same time as US but too many complaints about the streaming quality (buffering & screen freezing). Sky airs at the same time as US.
