So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

Ah but yumyumpoppycat the way he touched his arm, I live in hope

LaurieMarlow · 13/05/2019 22:23

While I hated some of it (the Jaime arc Angry) I’m good with the direction they took Dany. The hints were there. It all happened a bit suddenly, but welcome to season 8.

Jon has to take her out now I suppose. And poor Tyrion. That all panned out the exact opposite of what he hoped.

I also didn’t mind the end for The Hound. All he cared about was killing his brother. His own death was worth it.

The whole thing was fucking brutal. As dark as it gets.

Sansa for queen.

An aside, but Maisie Williams’ acting this season has been phenomenal.

BlondeBumshelll · 13/05/2019 22:23

I haven't read the books (got through the first one but gave up at the start of the second) but think I'd like to see what GRRM had planned for them all and how it was supposed to end. So at least I can do that if he finishes them.

JasperRising · 13/05/2019 22:25

As pp have said, whatever I think of the individual plot arcs and the pacing of the last season's, those scenes as Arya runs away through Kings Landing, her desperately attempting to save the woman and child, and Cersei's despair when the way out is blocked will haunt me.

And if Dany gets to the throne she is going to be plagued by dissent and rebellion and will have to continue to be harsh to keep hold of the throne.

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 22:26

I really think the Lannister's are gone we have one episode left in which to

Tie up
Tyrion betraying Danny and freeing Jamie
Danny/Jon
Danny/Sansa
Does Drogon live or die?
Bronn is that stupid scene with Jamie and Tyrion all the do with him this season?
Someone said it was confirmed we see Yara again
Brann (that's probably more wishful thinking than likely to happen)
And who rules and in what form.

I don't think we have any time to have characters that we have endings for pop back up! Jamie's wound looked pretty fatal anyway so it could only be Cersei but I don't see it.

DryHeave · 13/05/2019 22:29

Take out Dany. What happens to the angry dragon?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 13/05/2019 22:31

I thought the Hound’s ending was properly tragic. As he pointed out to Arya he’d wasted his whole life in a destructive quest to kill a man who was already dead.

fedup21 · 13/05/2019 22:36

I'm also worried for Tyrion no way Danny will forgive his betrayal letting Jamie go!

Would Dany know that Tyrion released him? It was carnage there-who is left alive to know what happened?

I wish Jaime had told Euron the baby was his.

Where is Bronn? Will we find out any more about Bran? Where did Varys send the little girl at the start? Where even is the iron throne? Is it still standing!!?

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 22:38

Would Dany know that Tyrion released him? It was carnage there-who is left alive to know what happened?

He ordered the unsullied guarding him away they don't look like they have lost that many judging be the shots from the trailer. Plus who else would release him?

FadedRed · 13/05/2019 22:44

I have no idea how this will end next week, but if it’s going around in a circle, then Sansa was supposed to become the Queen (Joffrey’s) since Episode One. Just a thought.

CodenameVillanelle · 13/05/2019 22:45

Also since when has Varys developed a conscience and cared about the moral compass of the person on the iron throne?

Since forever. That's literally his character motivation.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/05/2019 22:47

You know one thing I did love was the scene with Jaime and Tyrion. It was really moving.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 13/05/2019 22:49

Tbh that episode, although it looked beautiful, sucked.

10inabed · 13/05/2019 22:50

God I've just watched. What a fucking horrible episode.

Kind of feeling the night king and his dead army now. At least when they're all dead they presumably don't feel anything.

Humans can really be shits can't they?

ElenadeClermont · 13/05/2019 22:54

And King Harren learned that thick walls and high towers are small use against dragons. For dragons fly.
It was most definitely an allusion to Dresden in the show. So sad, but perfect.

Arya's white horse, I think, refers back to Lyanna Stark, who was a very horsey person, and in the show she had a white horse.

I am ok with how this is going. I never understood this total worship of Dany or Jon or any of them. They are all good characters, but they are fallible.

I agree that Tyrion will be executed. Dany knows, because she is crazy and read the script. No time for subtlety now.

And Sansa will let us down, too. No one will be Little Miss Perfect in the end. We are not heading that way.

The fate of Drogon and Ghost is the fate of magic. If they live, magic lives on.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 13/05/2019 22:56

Place marking!

Loved it!

itswinetime · 13/05/2019 23:07

And Sansa will let us down, too. No one will be Little Miss Perfect in the end. We are not heading that way.

Hasn't she already her distrust of Danny and failure to keep Jon's secret led to Varys death and contributed to Danny loosing it at destroying kings landing? She may do more of course.

10inabed · 13/05/2019 23:07

This sums it up for me...

Llioed · 13/05/2019 23:07

At least there wasn’t a coffee cup!

I enjoyed the episode. I felt last week’s episode (4) was rushed but not so much this episode (5) - I was completely taken by surprise by Danaerys and also felt for Tyrion & Jon Snow when they realised they had been left out of the loop by her and Greyworm.

Few little niggles/unanswered questions but I’m happy to accept this is just a TV programme and it’s a bit of escapism/fiction. Those niggles/questions may or may not get answered next week, but hey ho, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it. I even said to my DH tonight that they had better not leave a cliffhanger like the Italian Job film, where we never actually find out the ending... imagine the uproar?!

Maisie Williams - fantastic anyway, but those last 20 minutes... Star

yumyumpoppycat · 13/05/2019 23:10

Ontheboard I did notice the arm hold too - it did go on for quite a while didn't it? Maybe they had worked out an arm squeezing morse code like on line of duty, three squeezes means Dany is H {apologies if you don't watch LOD} … in all seriousness I do think he was trying to communicate things he couldn't say in the arm hold.

Lweji · 13/05/2019 23:12

Rewatching it.

Even if not by Lara, Euron's death was very satisfying. All that blook coming out of his entrails. His clear suffering. Great.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 13/05/2019 23:12

I liked it even more second time around

yumyumpoppycat · 13/05/2019 23:12

Purple I thought of Pompeii too with the poor mother wrapped around her child. It was almost like Dany was a volcano or force of nature.
