Bloody hell! We've just watched episode 1. That was intense.

I'm a bit shocked.

We watched it last night and thought it was fantastic, really really enjoyed it. Obviously I've always known about Chernobyl but this human side to the story almost makes me feel differently about it iykwim. It's hard to explain.

I was just saying this morning I might watch it again tomorrow with 14yo DS, he is very into modern history and would love it.

Howlongtillbedtime · 11/05/2019 22:23

What channel is this on ?
Sounds interesting.

cricketmum84 · 11/05/2019 22:24

It's Sky Atlantic, first episode should be on in demand on sky box :)

Howlongtillbedtime · 11/05/2019 22:26

Bugger!

I don't have sky.

Hopefully it will turn up on Netflix at some point.

NannaNoodleman · 11/05/2019 22:26

Yes! That's exactly what I couldn't articulate.

I've always known about Chernobyl but seeing it from 'within' makes it feel very different.

We've got it on NOW TV. We only signed up for Game of Thrones and now it seems we're committed until after this series too.

We've got now tv for game of thrones too! Watched Chernobyl earlier in the week. I was so so shocked, sickened and gripped by it.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 11/05/2019 23:13

Watching it now shocked to be honest!!

Singleandproud · 11/05/2019 23:19

Now Tv is worth it there’s plenty of brilliant tv shows to make it worthwhile. At only £7 a month for the entertainment package it costs 1/2 the price of a cinema ticket. There’s often deals if you cancel and we were given the Kids package free for a year on top. It is very easy to cancel when you want to too.

I’m looking forward to watching Chernobyl tomorrow

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/05/2019 23:19

Watching it now too, very difficult viewing.

NannaNoodleman · 11/05/2019 23:21

I'm still struggling to articulate why I found it so shocking.

We all know what happened and we all know about the people affected but seeing it (even acted) is horrific.

The workers inside, the management minimising & not believing, the firemen going into the site, the public going about their day... horrific.

HerondaleDucks · 11/05/2019 23:22

It was incredibly gripping. I've read a novel based around the events prior to this and that made me cry like a baby. This is far more harrowing. Looking forward to the next 4 episodes.

icelolly99 · 12/05/2019 13:20

Is it available via Virgin?

Bravelurker · 12/05/2019 17:50

The reactions from the higher ups made me scream at the telly. It was like watching the crew lock in the 3rd class passengers on the sinking titanic or hearing about emergency operators telling people to stay put Angry

NannaNoodleman · 12/05/2019 19:14

When they were shouting at that poor man who told them the core had gone!

OP posts:
NannaNoodleman · 12/05/2019 19:15

ice, I don't know about Virgin. Sorry.

just watched it- dh couldnt face it and went up to bed- its as depressing as you'd expect a programme called chernobyl to be.

terribly sad.

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/05/2019 22:16

There are podcasts coming out after each episode to talk over how it was made, the real life story, explaining the absence of Russian accents etc, well worth a listen.

HerondaleDucks · 15/05/2019 21:55

Last nights episode was so harrowing. The production have done a really good job on recreating the town and the people and the mentality. It's like they didn't take it seriously until the rest of the world knew!

NannaNoodleman · 15/05/2019 22:32

We haven't watched the 2nd episode yet. Hopefully we'll have chance to catch up tomorrow.

OP posts:
BMW6 · 15/05/2019 22:53

Aw bugger there's two threads on this and ive posted on tuther

NannaNoodleman · 16/05/2019 21:31

Fecking hell!!

Those men at the end.

... and nobody taking it seriously. People denying it.

That family with the baby.

OP posts:
NannaNoodleman · 16/05/2019 21:35

This programme leaves me reeling.

OP posts:
HerondaleDucks · 16/05/2019 21:43

Seeing those men in that radioactive water and their lights going out had me in tears. It's very well done and very thought provoking and scary

Arnoldthecat · 16/05/2019 21:56

They poisoned large parts of Europe and conspired to keep quiet about the bits they could hide. A bit like mad cow disease. No one went to prison.
