Ep 2 "A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms"

I loved the Danny and Sansa scene, and cried at the Brienne scene. I thought Danny would take Jons news better, oh dear...

And Arya and Gendry! I predicted it and yet was still surprised.

I was reading a theory that suggested Winterfell was originally a prison as it was constructed straight after the Long Night.

I felt a bit like Jon was thinking more about how he'd shagged his aunt and was angry/surprised at how Dany reacted with the thing about him being the male heir. I feel he is starting to see Dany for the one minded person she can be.

There was a bit of weird chemistry between Sansa and Theon, I didn't like that.

They're heavily foreshadowing something down in the crypts aren't they, with all the pointed talk about how the women and children will be down there. Especially as they seem to be putting Gilly, Baby Sam and Tyrion down there i.e. important characters. My guess is the three lads that Davos was talking to will soon be the walking dead! and that if that young girl isn't Melisandre then she will be the walking dead too and possibly kill Gilly.

Figgygal · 22/04/2019 12:40

Tormund is killing me Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 22/04/2019 13:08

My thoughts-

A Cersei-free episode. I didn't miss her.

There is deffo something fucked up in Chekhov's super-safe crypt. Not looking forward to seeing what it is!

The lovely touching moments always come before someone dies... R.I.P Brienne, Grey Worm and/or Missandei, cute little scarred girl.

The Gendrya scene was just a bit weird. Maisie Williams just can't do sexual tension bless her. Hers has been one of the most asexual characters in the whole show until now, it felt a bit unnatural. Not mad at the opportunity to see Joe Dempsie's lovely muscles though Grin

I'm really starting to hope Dany dies. She's become too much of a megalomaniac for my liking.

DilysMoon · 22/04/2019 14:11

I think the NK is already in the crypt or has been and I think he'll raise the dead Starks. I think that's why Arya looked so terrified, she's seen her parents....

Wheresmyvagina · 22/04/2019 14:14

The Targaryen dragon skulls are down there too aren't they? But presumably not the rest of the skeletons

ClashCityRocker · 22/04/2019 14:20

I do wonder if it's been too heavily influenced by what the fan's want to see. It all feels a bit predictable so far.

Gendry and Arya, in particular, didn't actually work. It was a sweet idea, but there has never been any sexual tension whatsoever between them - and their still wasn't in the actual scene. It felt like it'd been stuck in to keep the viewers happy without regard to either parties character motivations.

I may review this post after the next episode of course, but the last two seasons have almost felt like the fans have written the script. I hope there's some decent shocking moments (in terms of the storyline, not goriest death ever!).

Having said that, I did bloody enjoy this episode!

Bran's going to be in the Godswood isn't he? I wonder how that will pan out.

OneInAMillionYou · 22/04/2019 14:59

Didn't Jon mention he wanted the dragons near the Godswood to protect Bran? Will have to go back and watch that.

I really enjoy this thread and hearing everyone's opinions. So many online GoT forums are very book dominated, which is fine, but I like discussing the shows, with a side helping of book. 😀

TakenForSlanted · 22/04/2019 15:00

The Targaryen dragon skulls are down there too aren't they?

No, those are actually in the catacombs underneath the Red Keep in King's Landing. We've actually seen this back in season 1 when Arya was chasing cats down there.

There has always been lore that suggested there might be a dragon or dragon eggs underneath Winterfell but none of this has ever been confirmed and I very much doubt it'll actually be a plot line. It'd completely obliterate the "Dany is special because she has dragons" situation.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 22/04/2019 15:12

Arya and Gendry may have lacked screen chemistry but I totally believed her motivation. Good looking chap who she’s known and trusted for years. Prospect of imminent death. I’m right there with her.

TheweewitchRoz · 22/04/2019 15:15

I agree with you @WinterIsComingKnitFaster and it's about the only earthly thing that she hasn't yet experienced.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/04/2019 15:42

It'd completely obliterate the "Dany is special because she has dragons" situation.
True, but maybe as Dany begins to realise she's not as special as she thought she may unravel and become the Mad Queen.
Maybe the Night King still isn't the greatest threat to the Starks or Jon...

JasperRising · 22/04/2019 15:44

Yeah, despite my earlier post about not being totally sold on Arya and Gendry, on reflection the prospect of imminent death does have an impact. I suspect most of us might behave 'out of character' in that situation. And it might also explain the slightly more awkward, lacking in tension and chemistry feel to the scene if she is after the experience and Gendry is a good choice rather than desiring him (if that makes sense).

itswinetime · 22/04/2019 15:58

*Yes there's definitely something in the crypt.

My bet for first/most dramatic death will be the wee girl who wanted to 'guard' the crypt.*

That was my first thought to. I'm not sure it will be dead starks though at least not ones we know, because did there bodies even ever make it back to winterfell? I can't remember for sure but I don't think it will be that. Tyrion's going to be down in the crypts so maybe something they can out think?? I hope it's something that reveals something to us! Because Brans the night king wants everyone dead explanation was pretty disappointing!

I know we didn't see ghost last season but wasn't she meant to be around? So it wasn't really a reunion scene was it?

So far it all seems very safe and a bit predictable it's all going down as most people thought so I'm hoping its just them lulling is into a false sense of security before all the reveals and emotional deaths start!!

Agree I didn't miss Cersei at all makes you wonder what the end game is there though as most of this season will be resolving the night king plot and she isn't part of that!

EraOfTheGrey · 22/04/2019 16:06

Tyrion is intelligent as we've been reminded several times throughout this season so far. Both Sansa and Daenerys have said it several times. Scene setting.

Now, Tyrion sat down with Bran last night to hear all about his journey so far. This indicates that Tyrion has learned something significant from Bran. Tyrion will now have a plan or an insight into the whole Game.

EeeByeGummieBear · 22/04/2019 16:14

I really enjoyed the episode and thought it showed well how people might react differently, when facing their own mortality. I didn't necessarily see some of the encounters as signs as to who will die, but it might be I just don't want to face the prospect of these great characters dying! Just LOVED Ser Brianne!
I also saw Ayra and Gendry as a Ayra wanting the experience of sleeping with someone and Gendry being a good candidate, and Gendry having genuine feelings for Ayra.
My money is on a dragon in the crypt, which is why Tyrion needs to be down there.
Loved the Sansa / Theon reunion, like the bond between them was so strong due to their shared experiences.

fancynancyclancy · 22/04/2019 16:23

Tyrion has learned something significant from Bran Agreed, something will “click”.

itswinetime · 22/04/2019 16:39

Yes I'm hoping even if he doesn't know it yet as some point something bran has said will click with Tyrion and it will start making sense! Bran may have the powers so see memories but does he have the intelligence to figure out what they mean?

Honeyroar · 22/04/2019 17:05

Wow! That was an episode! I half feel like stopping watching there, while there's some happiness and all my favourites are still alive!

Loved Sansa and Theon's reunion (so Sansa does still have a heart under there!). Was she looking at him romantically? It looked that way a bit.

Loved Jaime and Brienne's almost reunion, but those two needed to wander off and get it on too!

Loved the humour added from Tormond and The Hound.

Hated the Gendry Ayria bit. He hasn't aged so well for me. Wonder if he was as good in bed as he is at running and rowing!!

Loved the Ser Brienne bit. Loved Theon offering to protect Bran and how everyone accepted, despite the fact that he's chickened out in 95% of other battles he's been in.

Of course the Night King wasn't on his horse. He would be on his best weapon (the dragon). And why wasn't Dany on her dragon which, lets face it, is her main weapon and reason she's there?

I wonder why the dead walkers walk slowly like something out of Thriller, and the dead horses seem to plod along, yet the ice dragon flies as speedily as when alive?

blancheduboiss · 22/04/2019 17:10

Aren’t most of the Starks buried in the Crypt, albeit Robb and Catelyn? Im almost certain the dead will rise from there and swarm those hiding within. It seems to back up whatever Arya is running from in the trailer Shock

TheLazyDuchess · 22/04/2019 17:11

There could be a clutch of eggs down there, from a previous Targaryen visit, but the rumours about there being something down there, pre date Aegon I conquest? As pp's have pointed out, Winterfell was originally a jail/used to hold something?

There could well be a dragon, the dragon pit in KL was sort of crypt like, and dragons thrived there just fine (until they were slaughtered that is). And Winterfell is warm, even in Winter, because of hot springs, harassed through the walls, from deep below, although why the springs are hot is never explained?

Was the Arya running scene from the trailer, defo set in the crypt? Was there some speculation it was somewhere else?

I thought it was quite sweet how Jon was stood thinking in front of his mother's statue.

RJnomore1 · 22/04/2019 17:15

Lyanna Stark is definitely in the crypt.

I don’t think I can wait a week! Aargh!
