Ep 2 "A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms"

I loved the Danny and Sansa scene, and cried at the Brienne scene. I thought Danny would take Jons news better, oh dear...

And Arya and Gendry! I predicted it and yet was still surprised.

I think they reduced him to a skeleton first, too.

Actually, you don't see many skeleton white walkers do you? Various states of decay, yes. Although I suppose the cold would preserve them.

I know where the white walkers came from (children of the forest etc.) but is there any explanation as to why they're suddenly so strong, centuries later? I like the idea of magic coming back to the world, fitting in with Dany's dragons etc.

ElenadeClermont · 22/04/2019 19:55

I do not think the white walkers are stronger than they were. They must have a reason to cross the wall. We need their point of view. I cannot believe they are mindless pure evil. No one is in the GRRM universe.

fancynancyclancy · 22/04/2019 20:40

I read a theory that suggested there was a pact between men & the white walkers, the wall divided the lands & they kept to their relevant sides. When the magic/dragons came back & Sam killed a walker the pact was broken.

TheFirstOHN · 22/04/2019 20:44

The white walkers were created to keep the human population in check; I think the NK has found a reason to take that prime directive to its extreme conclusion.

Loved this ep. Very emotional especially ser brienne. Half itching for the battle next week but dreading the inevitable losses Sad.

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 08:35

I can totally imagine a ‘pact gone wrong’ considering it’s been so many years, people thought they were a myth, and that they had built a wall that size to keep out the wildlings.

I feel like we might see reanimated
I think I’d cy

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 08:36

That’s supposed to say I think we might see reanimated Hodor.
I think I’d cry

Valar Morghulis Sad

pisspawpatrol · 23/04/2019 16:10

I think we'll see Hodor too, but I really hope not. Unless they ate him, I can't see how they just left him there alone.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 23/04/2019 16:24

The theory that Sam’s killing of a walker is what’s broken the pact and driven them to attack the living is horrifying and has a certain brilliance given that they’ve gone out of their way to remind us of the event. However I think it doesn’t fit in with the stuff that happened in the first seasons.

TakenForSlanted · 23/04/2019 16:55

However I think it doesn’t fit in with the stuff that happened in the first seasons.

It really doesn't, unless there are some serious unilateral T&C involved. Literally the very first scene of the entire series shows the aftermath of them killing humans and then some live slaughter action. That would mean the pact would have been something along the lines of "you get to off us en masse and, in return, you get to literally obliterate us if and when we off one of you". Seems unlikely.

fancynancyclancy · 23/04/2019 17:23

The way I understood the theory was that it was a combination of events that lead the walkers to fear the pact was broken. So they left a ranger alive to warn others that the whites had come back (or never gone) but in their eyes this was ignored as their sacrificial baby was taken & then a walker was killed. Plus the red comet signified the birth of dragons. The rebirth of magic & the discovery of dragon glass & how it kills them meant they felt threatened so have gone on the attack. I can’t remember all the detail but I thought it was interesting.

Did a Stark ever leave Winterfell?

fancynancyclancy · 23/04/2019 17:31

Cersai didn’t seem bothered that the walkers had broken through the wall. Maybe she wants to be the night queen & thinks she can negotiate as she’s so power hungry?

Wheresmyvagina · 23/04/2019 17:53

There were no starks at winterfell while Theon then Ramsay held it. Has that broken the protection?

fancynancyclancy · 23/04/2019 18:08

Maybe?

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 18:40

I just remembered something, when Robb held Jaime captive, he clearly said to him ‘you pushed my brother out the window’
So he knew. Therefore his whole army must have known. They HATED the Lannister’s, they were fresh into war with them, avenging the beheading of Ned.
Don’t tell me word of that wouldn’t have got round.
It might not have been provable, they maybe didn’t believe it, but people definitely would have heard about, at that time in that environment.

TheFirstOHN · 23/04/2019 18:49

when Robb held Jaime captive, he clearly said to him ‘you pushed my brother out the window’

How did Robb find out? The only witness was Cersei, and I thought Bran had no memory of the event until he became the three eyed raven.

fancynancyclancy · 23/04/2019 18:52

I didn’t even realise that.

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 18:57

I’m pretty sure him and Cat figured it out. I think after bran nearly being assassinated, cat put two and two together, why would someone try and kill a boy in a coma? He must have seen something. He was so sure footed, can’t believe he fell.
Jaime and Cersei were banging, hold on a minute....

ElenadeClermont · 23/04/2019 18:57

fancy In the books there are no Starks in Winterfell for long periods. Ramsey married Jeyne and not Sansa in the books.

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 23/04/2019 18:58

Catelyn Stark worked out what had caused Bran to 'fall' after the knife attack on his life in the first series, she went to the window Bran fell from and in the room found one of Cersei's long blond hairs, at the same time Ned was putting two and two together at a Kings Landing regarding Cersei's blond children whilst all Roberts bastards were dark haired "the seed is strong".

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 23/04/2019 18:59

Cross post!

TakenForSlanted · 23/04/2019 18:59

On a super random side note: I feel like a lot less of a ridiculous uber nerd due to others geeking out on the ins and outs of GoT on here.

My boss' boss looked at me like Confused when I told him today that I thought him and I had a serious Brienne Jamie situation happening.

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 19:01

Cross post!
Yours was far more detailed though 😂

TakenForSlanted · 23/04/2019 19:01

... ETA for clarification: I meant the knighting bit, not the underlying romantic question. Turns out the sorry excuse for a modern human being hasn't started on season 8.
