THE VICTIM BBC MON 9pm

New drama about a grieving mum who confronts the man accused online for being her sons killer

But is he really a notorious child murderer or a tragic victim of mistaken identity?

In law, there is the accused and the victim. In life, it’s not that simple...

I think this will be quite heart wrenching

Right, I think that Tom was Eddie J, Turner, was found guilty and given a new identity. But he didn't actually kill Liam: that was Danny.

We shall see tomorrow!

prettyhibiscusflowers · 10/04/2019 22:06

I love how this has every viewer guessing. Brilliant script.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 10/04/2019 22:08

Some fantastic acting tonight, and a great script. Anna’s pure anger is the one thing keeping her going. I hope Rebecca and Jessica go back to Craig

Clawdy · 10/04/2019 22:09

I think Craig may kill himself before it's all resolved, and Anna will live with the guilt always. Not sure who the real killer is, though. Didn't someone say the social worker meets several clients?

zaffa · 10/04/2019 22:14

But isn't the point that it doesn't matter who the real killer is? Like husband 2 said, Craig isn't on trial so it shouldn't matter whether he has another identity or not. It's all on Anna and whether it was right to put the pic on social media. It's such a difficult one and a gripping story line!

Groovee · 10/04/2019 22:16

Jeez, I was freaked right out.

Thinking back to the first time in court, Tom looks along the row, you think at Anna but was it Danny?

Elderflower14 · 10/04/2019 22:17

My mum said can't they eliminate by DNA??? 🙄

MuddlePuddle · 10/04/2019 22:18

I hope it isn’t Craig or Tom, because I find it hard to believe if you were given a new identity etc that you would be able to stay in close contact and the same town as a person that knows exactly who you are? If John Hannah is not allowed to know who is EddieTurner, how can they possibly trust an ex prisoner to keep it a secret?

BitOfFun · 10/04/2019 22:21

Why would they eliminate anybody by DNA though? The identity of the killer is not at issue for the police- only whether Anna incited violence against somebody she believed to be Eddie J. Turner.

youlladdressmeassir · 10/04/2019 22:35

There's absolutely no need to eliminate anyone by DNA. It shouldn't matter the identity of Craig, he was seriously assaulted, that's all that should matter

I'm finding hard to be sympathetic to the mother. I thought her husband's speech was excellent

purpleme12 · 10/04/2019 22:50

No the issue isn't really about if he's the killer however the programme does get us to THINK that that's the point and to get embroiled in it

purpleme12 · 10/04/2019 22:52

I don't think we're exactly supposed to feel sympathetic to Anna but we are supposed to get caught up in her thought processes and carried along with it all

Theimpossiblegirl · 10/04/2019 22:55

It's very, very good. Cannot wait for tomorrow night.

dontfluffthefluffer · 10/04/2019 23:53

Just caught up again, wooooow what an episode! I'm loving how Kelly McDonald is playing such a dark character. Her hatred is so raw in parts especially when the husband was telling her to think of forgiveness. That was an excellent scene.

The second guessing is compelling (and shaky camera seems to have either calmed down or is less obvious).

Can't wait for tomorrow now. Excellent mini series, so pleased I accidentally caught the first one.

GoldenMalicious · 11/04/2019 08:06

Craig said to Tom something about ‘At least I know who I am and what I’ve done!’. I am with those above who say that Tom is EJT; however, he has consistently denied having been the one who killed Liam. He wasn’t the actual killer - most likely that was Danny. Craig knows that Tom is EJT, and has presumably had his own identity changed - I imagine in order to protect Tom/EJT being revealed. Hence, ‘Craig’ has no convictions, as those were linked to his old identity. Craig appears to be doubting Tom/EJT’s innocence (as per quote above).

ejk10 · 11/04/2019 08:11

Ok - I might be completely wrong here - but I've just watched the ending of last night again - and did anyone else think the social worker looked like a transgendered male? Especially in the photo the PI friend had? Has EJT transgendered to female!??

Piggywaspushed · 11/04/2019 08:17

The SW looked like a 50 year old female to me!!

Bookworm4 · 11/04/2019 11:26

I am Scottish but Kelly McDonalds voice is really annoying, why does she need to talk so slowly as if nobody can understand her? Has she been away from Scotland too long? Her solicitors accent is better than hers.

massistar · 11/04/2019 13:24

Her voice is annoying me as well Bookworm4! Still sounds like she's trying to be Merida!

Groovee · 11/04/2019 15:43

The social worker looks exactly like a social worker I have worked with in the past. It freaked me right out at first.

TheVeryThing · 11/04/2019 16:27

I am totally gripped by this but slightly confused.
If the retired policeman recognised Danny from the time of the murder, would he not also recognise the killer? Or at least be able to rule out Craig?
I know the identity of the killer is not relevant to the court case but it's pretty relevant to the abuse and harassment Craig is receiving.

JustDanceAddict · 11/04/2019 17:59

Is it me or is Anna really annoying?

Bookworm4 · 11/04/2019 18:04

Anna is not likeable, totally irrational. There's been no explanation as to how she honed in on Craig.
My theory is that Danny claims he found Liam but is actually the killer and Eddie was wrongly convicted, Danny has a very weird thing about Anna and Ben.

itsallsoobviousnow · 11/04/2019 18:31

Eddie pleaded guilty though didn't he - though I suppose it could have been a false confession?

Anna honed in on Craig because her PI friend told her about him - though was still trying to get 'proof' when Anna jumped the gun.

When was Anna's exh released from prison - I thought John Hannah went to question him there? And do we know why he was in prison?

Bookworm4 · 11/04/2019 18:35

Eddie was only 13, he could have been coerced.
ExH is in for drink related incidents, became an alcoholic after the murder.
