New drama about a grieving mum who confronts the man accused online for being her sons killer

But is he really a notorious child murderer or a tragic victim of mistaken identity?

In law, there is the accused and the victim. In life, it’s not that simple...

I think this will be quite heart wrenching

Does anyone know what she hissed I court that made him yell: you ask me? I've listened loads of times but I just can't quite get it.

heath48 · 09/04/2019 22:45

I thought she said “ask him who he is “.could be wrong ,as I am a bit deaf and make stuff up if I can’t hear it properly!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 09/04/2019 22:45

Zaffa, do you mean when she said to ask him who he was? I thought that was very clear but didn't hear anything else.

NononoLimit · 09/04/2019 22:50

@youngestisapsycho Yes, my DH keeps shouting that at the TV and asking why the judge is not intervening with the line of questioning! It's so gripping though.

I thought he was meant to have been in prison previously according to the guard but he said to his wife that he'd only been to court 1 day, 5 years previous so it seems that hasn't been brought up if the prison sentence was at all true! Tom did seem very nervous. However, we can't believe everything in vigilante cases which seems to be the point of the series so far. The guy at the clinic and boyfriend have both got me thinking it's them too.

dontfluffthefluffer · 09/04/2019 23:15

I've just caught up. Blooming heck it's tense!

purpleme12 · 09/04/2019 23:17

Ok I'm only halfway through yesterday's so far (so haven't read the whole thread) But I'm confused the police don't seem to know if this man is the child killer or not I mean I know he needs to be protected from the public but I thought the police would be able to know if it's him or not? Wouldn't they have access so they can keep an eye on him or something? Is this not how it works?

Mygingercat · 09/04/2019 23:22

DNA surely?

viques · 09/04/2019 23:22

I thought the day in court five years ago was after an altercation in the street that he didn't want Bex to know about presumably because they had had problems after the daughter was born , he hinted that she had post natal depression. he was in prison before that, but I don't think we have been told why.

zaffa · 09/04/2019 23:24

I know the mother Anna was hissing at the barrister to ask him who he was a few times and then the judge said she felt that Craig had satisfied this line of inquiries by proving he had memories of his childhood and Anna yelled out: no! she was challenged by the judge for speaking out but she still turned back to the barrister and said something, at which point Craig Myers yelled at her - no, you ask me! It sounded like she said something different to ask him who he is on that occasion but I may have misheard it.

viques · 09/04/2019 23:29

Purple, I think if you have been given a new identity then very few people are told about it, though I would have thought some sort of supervision and licence would be in place if you had murdered someone , there was a programme about released offenders yesterday and one was a murderer who had been let out but was on licence for the rest of his life,he only managed to stay out for a few weeks before he was recalled.

purpleme12 · 09/04/2019 23:31

Yes I thought some police officer or something would know who he was and so surely the police could contact whoever they needed to to find out...
I don't know...

NononoLimit · 10/04/2019 00:02

@zaffa I think she questioned why he lied under oath? I rewound it and still didn't quite catch it.

Cagliostro · 10/04/2019 00:06

Sounds like my kind of drama, thanks for posting!

naughtymutha · 10/04/2019 00:11

I think it's funny that Anna Dean is an unfortunate name as it sounds like a well known pain killer Confused

I reckon Craig is so nervous and guilty looking because his dodgy friend is the real child killer and Craig knows it but can't say anything. Maybe they're friends because he shared a cell with him??

whocaresalot · 10/04/2019 00:11

I had subtitles on- she definitely said to ask him who he is while under oath.

Wingedharpy · 10/04/2019 00:13

My theory, based on bugger all:
Tom is the person who was sentenced for Liam's murder but, Liam possibly died as a result of some schoolboy altercation involving stickers (we saw a newspaper headline that said he was killed for his stickers).
Creepy boyfriend was played a key role in the altercation occurring and maybe struck the fatal blow or whatever that caused Liam's death.?
Everyone else managed to run off, except Tom and as he was the only one around when body found, he was presumed guilty, charged and sentenced.
Craig and Tom met in the young offenders institution and were the 2 offenders the ex-prison officer/now chef was talking about to the Mum and her PI friend.
Craig doesn't know that Tom is Eddie whatsisname.

Enjoyed tonight's episode.
Want to know what's gone on in John Hannah's carachter's past.

LindsayDentonsCat · 10/04/2019 00:22

I enjoyed episode 2 more than episode 1, but really I'm in it to gaze in wonder at where the years have gone. Kelly Mcdonald was a teenager just a few years ago, I'm sure. Ramon Tikaram was the glossy-haired biker Ferdy, and John Hannah was a youthful boyfriend mourning his much older partner. They still all look amazing, but how are they all playing these much older characters? Where has the time gone? Does this mean I'm not 20 anymore?

purpleme12 · 10/04/2019 00:31

This drama is so good I'm already halfway through the 2nd one now

DarkDarkNight · 10/04/2019 00:35

Just catching up with tonight’s episode, I hope we get some background on John Hannah’s character. He was so hostile and unsympathetic towards Anna.

What was the woman (I’m not sure of her name, but she was with the Police) referring to when she said ‘we all understand why you might feel an affinity with Craig Myers’? Why has she been told not to discuss the case with him? I’m intrigued now.

Very strange that the Police won’t put a statement out to say Myers is innocent because they would ‘rather the story die’. Surely putting a statement out to confirm he’s not Eddie Turner would kill the story? Craig seems unable or unwilling to prove his identity. His wife was crying and is maybe starting to question him.

I agree with others about Tom, I am leaning towards him being Eddie Turner and Craig protecting him. The former prisoner said nobody liked Myers, perhaps he is a child killer too seeing as they were both from the protected unit.

Piggywaspushed · 10/04/2019 07:39

There are some police who do know but not in John Hannah's unit. The whole point is that it doesn't matter whether he is or not to the trial, isn't it? Which spins it out for us, obviously! The trial is ridiculous really. Not at all credible. Pooky Quesnel's non poker face took the biscuit.

I still don't get why they aren't more actively looking for who attacked him!

I like Kelly MacDonald but am not finding her character sympathetic at all. A more nuanced performance/ better script would do wonders, I think. Other than a visit to the grave and a nice line in court from John Hannah, she doesn't come across as a grieving mother to me. We also aren't spending any time getting to know her lawyer, whereas Carig's is being much mroe fleshed out.

The policeman from the original case (seen in a newspaper story) was a recognisable actor so he is going to have a part in all of it!

Is anyone else getting annoyed by the constant Eddie J Turner? Who is ever known that way?!

Mygingercat · 10/04/2019 07:52

YY to Eddie J Turner. What’s the need?

purpleme12 · 10/04/2019 08:03

I did think it was a bit weird yes

thecatsthecats · 10/04/2019 08:22

I am assuming Craig is the cellmate, and potentially Tom the real Eddie. Tom was giving Craig signals. Presumably that would mean that Craig's previous conviction was redacted because it could reveal Tom? The screw said that they were both removed to the same place...

LadyKylieShagworthy · 10/04/2019 09:17

Surely, if he is Eddie Turner he would have been relocated far away from the victim's family. And the police should be able to find out his identity and stop him being persecuted like this, and if he isn't ET why isn't he demanding a DNA test?
All this is annoying me.

massistar · 10/04/2019 11:52

I actually really like the fact that Anna isn't a sympathetic character, makes it more nuanced for me as your sympathy should automatically lie with her but it doesn't and I find myself hugely sympathetic towards Craig when actually it could still be him who is Eddie Turner?
