THE VICTIM BBC MON 9pm

New drama about a grieving mum who confronts the man accused online for being her sons killer

But is he really a notorious child murderer or a tragic victim of mistaken identity?

In law, there is the accused and the victim. In life, it’s not that simple...

I think this will be quite heart wrenching

Is it an in scriptwriter's joke that he is called Myers??

Awrite · 08/04/2019 22:50

I thought it was great.

Aye to Craig's friend maybe being Eddie Turner. I thought John Hannah's boss said something along the lines of him being local.

And aye to the daughter's boyfriend being the attacker. Or maybe her husband. Or just your run of the mill vigilante.

Hating how much I hate John Hannah's character.

Doorway · 08/04/2019 23:07

So glad she’s changed out of her uniform only 50 minutes in Hmm

Enjoying this so far.

John Hannah’s boss gets about! He’s been in a few things recently.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 09/04/2019 00:13

Thought it was quite slow to begin with, but really got into it. Too close to the Bulger case for my liking. ..heart wrenching. The attacked guy and his friend are weird. Yy to the friend being the young lads killer

FellaGoneRogue · 09/04/2019 07:37

I wish they would turn some fucking lights on! I HATE atmospheric lighting on TV.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2019 08:12

I think it's far more likely that the boyfriend of the daughter is the killer. Local to the area and his 'acting' reveals he is a bit untrustworthy.

Of course, highly unrealistic and unlikely ,whatever. But that's TV!

Clawdy · 09/04/2019 09:18

Daughter's boyfriend too young to be the killer.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2019 09:20

You think? He looks older than her.

The person who attacked Craig wasn't very tall, I noticed. The bf is tall, noticeably so.

He is definitely in it for a reason!

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2019 09:26

I know actors can play different ages fairly convincingly but Andrew Rothney who plays the boyfirend is 31...

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2019 09:29

And, as a little side factoid, James Harkness himself was attacked with an axe on his 18th birthday. Must have actually been quite traumatic for him to act that bit of the role.

Groovee · 09/04/2019 09:36

Just watched it now. Who was the man in the surgery who would only speak to Anna?

The daughter's boyfriend and Craig's friend give off a weird vibe.

thecatsthecats · 09/04/2019 09:37

I think it's a bit early for the boyfriend to be the attacker - he's the classic narrative obvious suspect! Definitely something dodgy there though.

Anyone else with nothing to do in the evenings who loves having these dramas on night after night? Something to mitigate the agony of waiting a whole week for another episode of LoD...

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2019 09:51

The original attacker (ie murderer?) or the current attacker?

He cannot be the current attacker unless the programme makers are paying entire disregard to Geography : which they can't be, as they specifically established the locations. Boyfriend would have had to ahev had a helicopter to get to the attack site in the time frame!

I don't understand why the police seem to be making no attempt to establish who actually attacked Craig?? Not only have they committed a serious crime, they are an important witness for the prosecution of thingie. (I can only think of her as Kelly macDonald!) Her ex husband was mentioned as being in prison at one point, wasn't he? That'll be significant!

I do get annoyed by all these TV dramas where the central female is a mother of older children, sometimes even in their 20s and they are unfeasibly young. TV doesn't seem to know what the average age for childbirth in the UK is!

Awrite · 09/04/2019 14:11

Yeah, I was thinking that Piggy. The murdered boy so would be about 23 now. Kelly McDonald is early 40's and looks younger.

I would imagine that the state monitors the original murderer and wouldn't allow him to have a relationship with his victim's sister. You would hope so anyway.

That's the boyfriend out.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2019 14:47

Agree they would monitor the killer and if went near deceased family and started to date sister that they would intervene

So can’t be sister bf

I’m hoping it’s not going to be Craig. That it is his and the victim is actually the mum of the boy who got killed

I fell asleep towards the end.
Not immediately gripping but it might improve.

Encyclo · 09/04/2019 21:29

The bf just said he was in school with Liam but a few years older.... he didn’t want the police to see him either.

NononoLimit · 09/04/2019 21:41

@Encyclo, that struck me too! That and the oddly behaved patient giving his DOB in 1994.

Mygingercat · 09/04/2019 21:42

What did the bf say in the brothers room? Was it something odd?

NononoLimit · 09/04/2019 21:56

Not especially so, other than what Encyclo said. He said he didn't know Liam but did know of him.

I'm 20 minutes behind but now think it's Tom and Myers knows. My guess is they were in the prison cell together as they've known each other 10 years. It would explain why he's not wanting to either prove or disprove who he is if he's protecting Tom.

Mygingercat · 09/04/2019 22:01

Which one is Tom? The friend? I can’t keep up!

itsallsoobviousnow · 09/04/2019 22:03

Who was the ?chef? who told Kelly MacDonald and friend about Myers? Was he a former prison officer?

And did he say that Myers was moved to his prison/cell from a secure prison/wing? So does that mean Myers has another previous conviction that didn't get brought out in court?

youngestisapsycho · 09/04/2019 22:06

Why is he being interrogated so much in court... isn’t the court case about her inciting the violence against him?

Clawdy · 09/04/2019 22:14

If the boyfriend was at the same school as Liam, and Liam was nine, then it was a primary school, and the boyfriend could have been no more than eleven at the time of Liam's death.

EvilTwins · 09/04/2019 22:38

According to the radio times, creepy boyfriend is 10 years older than the daughter.

What about the bloke who insists on seeing Anna at the hospital? The drug addict? Another red herring?
