GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8. Possible spoilers

Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

Hear, hear Flaverings

GreyGardens88 · 16/04/2019 19:22

Only one episode in and you're all already slagging it off! As if anything would live up to expectations after a 2 year wait. The first episode was always going to be setting the scene the remaining 5 just enjoy it for what it is a TV show

Flaverings · 16/04/2019 20:08

Welcome to the Internet Grin

Lweji · 16/04/2019 20:37

With Jon and Ygritte it just worked

Yes, but...

Baloon · 16/04/2019 20:48

Is this an actual spoilers thread or is it just possible spoilers from Mondays episode?
I don't want to read through the posts incase there are full season spoilers but can't find a discussion thread.

ElenadeClermont · 16/04/2019 21:29

@Baloon Actual spoilers as well I think.

BunnyJumps · 16/04/2019 21:33

Jon and Ygritte got married in real life this year, the chemistry was real

SweetSummerchild · 16/04/2019 21:42

I get that Kit and Rose had ‘real’ chemistry, but surely script writers and actors should be able to ‘make it look convincing’ without actually being a couple in real life. If they can’t, that says something about the actors.

SweetSummerchild · 16/04/2019 21:48

Anyway, this is quite interesting. Maybe Emilia is so deadpan because she really is trying to play Dany as a psychopath...

Did anyone watch the inside the episode thing?

When Kit kisses Emilia he starts making puking noises (which was quite funny), but also in an interview said it was really weird to do romantic scenes with her. Maybe why the chemistry feels a bit off and the exact opposite of what it was with Rose.

Although, no love story can be as good as Jon and Ygritte and I wouldn't want it to be the same. I still feel like he's betraying her with Danny and get annoyed 😂 and the moment next to the waterfall reminded me a lot of Ygritte and Jon in the caves which made it worse Sad I think Ygritte is why I can't get on board with Jon and Danni to begin with.

Oh crap, sorry, I mentioned a spoiler, I'll report the post!

SweetSummerchild · 17/04/2019 06:50

They are flying through the plot so fast there's very little to connect to, no detail. In an earlier season how much time would have been spent setting up

Yes, instead of seeing characters grow and develop into strong leaders, we are having to be told this by other characters. We are supposed to now believe that Sansa is both he strongest and smartest person in the world because Arya says so, and Arya is never wrong. Other than getting the smiths to stick leather on armour and calling the banners when the wall fell the viewer has seen very little evidence of her actually being smart or a good leader. Earlier seasons would have spent time on developing this, and it is set up perfectly in the books.

I’ll carry on watching. I’m looking forward to seeing how the final battle for Kings Landing works out. That’s not a spoiler by the way, I’m just assuming it is going to happen.

RedForShort · 17/04/2019 07:05

I enjoyed it - but to be honest I think it helps that I didn't have high expectations (mostly because it turns out of forgotten a lot!

Liked the reunions - favourite bit of the Hound and Arya is how she didn't try and make it look like she abandoned him accidentally but reminded him she also robbed him.

Mind you I love Arya, she can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

BunnyJumps · 17/04/2019 07:25

I thought Dany had chemistry with Khal Drogo though so it can't be put down to her acting. I think it is the character who has switched off her feelings in her quest for the iron throne.

TheFirstOHN · 17/04/2019 09:57

I think Daenerys seems to have lost her edge.

When she was travelling around Essos she seemed driven, determined, strong and had innate authority.

At Winterfell she seems much softer

Flaverings · 17/04/2019 12:10

She’s probably thinking, “sod this for a game of monkeys” and wondering how she can get herself back across the sea to the med and good weather.

ladymarian · 17/04/2019 12:14

I finally watched it last night and I loved it! I thought they did well to fit in so much scene-setting and so many reunions in less than an hour. I was disappointed it wasn't longer.
I hated the Dragon riding scene (seemed a bit pointless) and I don't think Jon and Dany are convincing as a couple. I don't know if it's the actors or the characters but I don't buy it! I thought Sam was amazing, I love him! Felt so sorry for him when he found out about his father and brother. I think Dany is as mad as her brother and Jon should beware! I have no clue what will happen, so many possibilities but I was glad that Edd is still alive, he's one of my favourite characters. I have a feeling that Gendry is going to play a significant part at the end I just don't know what it will entail. It seemed odd bringing him back in to the thick of it suddenly at the end of season 7 after all that time when he wasn't in it at all.
Excited for episode 2 already!!!

Lweji · 17/04/2019 12:20

I don't agree with mad Daenerys for roasting the Tarlys. It reminds me of when Ned Stark cut the man's head at the start of the show. Sometimes you need to do unpleasant things, and she did give them a way out.

Holidayshopping · 17/04/2019 12:20

I was glad that Edd is still alive, he's one of my favourite character

Who is Edd?

ladymarian · 17/04/2019 12:33

Edd is the acting Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and was with Jon at Castle Black, Hardholm etc

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/04/2019 14:14

Edd is hilarious. Ben Crumpton always manages to elevate anything he's in and he's in a LOT!

ppppppickupapenguin · 17/04/2019 17:05

Can anyone answer this for me?
Dani can’t be burnt as she is a Targaryan and is a dragon (she says in season 1 when Viserys dies “he’s no dragon, dragons can’t be burnt” (or something to that effect). Now we know that Jon is also a Targaryan but did he get burnt back in season 1 when the white went after commander Mormont in Castle Black? I can’t remember if it happened in the show or just in the books.

If he did get burnt does that mean he’s no dragon either?

drogon1 · 17/04/2019 17:08

Not all of the Tagaryen's are "dragons" though. Case in point, Viserys.

Amongstthetallgrass · 17/04/2019 18:23

Ah I was disappointed. The script was really cheesy and I hated the dragon flying scene. That could have been so much better. I just keep telling my self they were lying ground work!

This show is global and I can’t honestly believe the author would have been happy with that.
