Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

Someone mentioned this a little earlier, but I find it very interesting that Dany considers this ‘Jon’s war’.
If she truly sees herself as the rightful ruler of the 7 kingdoms, then surely she would see it as her war? And her people being attacked?
I can understand the northerners seeing it as ‘their’ war, but why her? I think it shows subconsciously that she knows the north is not hers, and that these are not her people. Which is why it pisses her off all the more when Sansa so very clearly points it out to her

She does, thats the reason she is there. This 'Jons war' is just excuses. It was not convincing at all when she said this to sansa, with that creepy look on her face while doing so!

I am so over Danys character. Loved her for a while, but recently shes just so cold, and arrogant, bitchy and basically, seems to care about nothing at all but the throne, that it turns out Jon has a much stronger claim too, which oissed her off immensely! Jon doesn't want it. But, in her position, I think I would be more concerned with the fact that I had shagged my nephew, or even that I had found more family..rather than straight away about the throne.

GottaGetUp · 23/04/2019 12:51

The issue is that she started in this show as a very young child, so viewers still see her that way.

I think if Maisie Williams had grown taller, noone would have any problem with it. That plus the boob-squishing breast plates they make her (and Brienne) wear has kept her looking much more childlike, which has helped with her serial-killer-but-cute-with-it character, but not so much with having actual grown-up sex.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 23/04/2019 12:52

I really don’t want to see skeleton Ned fighting his children.

Talking of fighting skeletons, Jason and the Argonauts was on TV yesterday 😁

I'm far more concerned about those who fall during the battle as the NK could just instantly add them to his army surely? Just like he did at Hardhome?

MaddieElla · 23/04/2019 12:57

Can Ned Stark actually come back, given that his head is detached from his body?

And there's a lot of bones in the crypt...surely they can only raise the recently dead and not the really really dead?

MaddieElla · 23/04/2019 12:57

Also I've just remembered the hound and is throwing over the wall comment. Grin

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 13:04

@lewji it almost seemed like she was choosing to LIVE, that's how I took it if that makes sense.
And also, she didn't seek Gendry out, he came to her...so I wonder if she just felt like going for it when she saw him. If he hadn't come to her with the weapon, I wonder if it would happen at all...
he definitely has a thing for her since they've been reunited I think.

I don't want to see dead ned stark killing people either - although tbh surely he's just bones now so it wouldn't look like him anyway, just a skeleton.
The one we are most likely to get is Rickon. He died not as long ago and he was brought back to be put in the crypt after the battle, on Jon's instruction - there was a small scene on it.

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 13:07

@theinvestigator i felt the same at first, then I think they were kind of smiling and laughing...and that made me think ah okay...i think as arya's first 'human' normal experience in years, I was probably asking too much for all the feels Grin

I don't think they can raise the dead just from ancient bones either but I wonder if the 'There must always be a Stark at Winterfell' plays into it somehow.
Like while there's a Stark at Winterfell the dead that are raised in the crypt won't fall under the NK's command or something...I don't know, it's a stretch...but they repeat those words a LOT throughout the series so I wonder if it has more meaning than initially perceived.

keepforgettingmyusername · 23/04/2019 13:17

'I think if Maisie Williams had grown taller, noone would have any problem with it.'

Yes, Sansa was a child at the beginning too and has become a woman, has been sexual at times and so on. Arya stayed child like but a killer child, like Chucky.

BlackCatSleeping · 23/04/2019 13:22

Ok, this is what I think will happen. I think they will lose the Battle of Winterfell and the unsullied will join the army of the dead. The main cast will remain miraculously still alive bar a few token side players for dramatic effect and maybe even another dragon. The main characters will flee to the Iron Islands to await the Knight King’s arrival. However, the NK will head to Kings Landing instead. Cersei will battle him and lose and send ravens pleading for help. Euron will be sent to pick them up by ship and now all the main cast will assemble in KL for the final confrontation. Melisandre will arrive just in the nick of time and explain they need a mass burning to defeat the NK. The whole of the main cast will be tied to stakes and burnt except Dany and the dragon who will have their throats slit. As they are burning Davis will ask why they didn’t just use leaches again. The red woman will say oh, shit, that’s a good point. Then it will cut to Jon Snow in the shower. Only it’s not the real Jon Snow, it’s just an actor called Kit Harrington and it turns out the whole thing was just a work of fiction by a man called George RR Martin who couldn’t think of a good ending, so decided to end it as if the whole thing was just a dream. The real-life Jon married the real-life Ygritte and they all live happily ever after. Well, for a couple of years, which is good for Hollywood standards. The end!

Doobigetta · 23/04/2019 13:38

Arya stayed child like but a killer child, like Chucky.

It’s that. And also it’s Gendry, who knew her as a child. I don’t think I’d be at all creeped out if Arya had met and shagged a new character who was more clearly her own age. It’s what the scene said about Gendry that bothered me. I feel he should have said no.

Doobigetta · 23/04/2019 13:41

I like the theory about the Stark in Winterfell. Maybe their presence activates a force field that means the NK’s magic doesn’t work inside the walls or something? Sadly I think the flight to Dragonstone is on the cards though, and they wouldn’t need to do that if they could just hole up.

BobbyGentry · 23/04/2019 13:48

I think they’re all (every one) doomed and will go out spectacularly except Arya and Gendry who’ll become king & queen of the seven kingdoms, plus a few surviving dragon eggs, any other non main character survivors will unite and then they’ll live happily ever after.

DobbysLeftSock · 23/04/2019 13:52

I think there needs to be something (maybe in the crypt) that can save the day at winterfell in the 11th hour. Otherwise the rest of the season hits a roadblock. I dont think it likely that the NK and his army kill off everyone in the north and then its 3 more episodes of him heading South and killing off cersei et al. But if Dany & Jon etc win against the NK their forces will be so severely depleted that the golden company will trounce them. So I think it will be - most of ep 3 = the winterfell lot are getting their arses kicked, kill off lots of characters, then something is introduced and helps them win (like the red woman does some magic and raises the dragon under winterfell or something). Whatever the something is means that they then have a decent chance against Cersei.

Actually, I quite like the dragon theory. Maybe it will be loyal to jon, a half stark half targ dragon, dany will lose a dragon in the battle and be left with just one, the NK will escape on his. Jon will want him and Dany to chase and fight the NK with both their dragons but Dany will think she's done her bit against the dead, wont be willing to risk her final dragon, and will retreat with the rest of her forces to dragonstone to try to take on Cersei.

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 13:53

I’d be more creeped out by Arya and gendry if they had spent all their time together
It’s like knowing someone as kids then growing up apart and meeting again and seeing each other anew.

Good point @doobigetta I think winterfell will ultimately be destroyed. I hope
I’m wrong though and there’s something to those words!

MaddieElla · 23/04/2019 13:56

I think it's a dragon appearing in the crypt in the trailer.

Also think Bran will end up in the tree/part of the red tree - hence there will always be a Stark in Winterfell.

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 14:01

If they do reanimate bones there’s a giant dragon skeleton in kings landing...

ElenadeClermont · 23/04/2019 14:04

Re Dany: The true heir to the Iron Throne, Stannis Baratheon, said:
I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.

I miss Val. Only she deserves Jon.

JasperRising · 23/04/2019 14:07

Does anyone have any idea what Cersei's game plan is? She seems to have three options:

1- not believe there is a real NK threat
2- assume the northerners will win but so many will die that she can wipe them out
3- hope the NK defeats her rivals but then what? She doesn't have dragonglass or valerian steel or any idea how to defeat the army of the dead...

Also, I have been making about the rest of the country - the maesters at Old town, the people at the Inn at the crossroads, the Dornish and the Reach etc - do they realise that the northerners are fighting this epic battle to save them? Do they still believe white walkers are northern fairy tales? Will they carry on believing that if the northerners win? So many questions...

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 14:21

Can’t work out what cersei’s up to - whether she truly believes she can wait it out and let the north sort it or if she’s planning to do a mad king and burn everything once the dead arrive... I think she’s underestimated the threat to be honest

PaddyF0dder · 23/04/2019 14:27

Cersei is at this point a classic short-sighted politician. Still not caring terribly about climate change, or taking it seriously. Only caring about her own ambition. Her arrogance and short-sightedness will be her undoing. Like many powerful people (cough Trump cough) she’s achieved it all my way of nepotism and luck, but truly believes she’s won it through guile and ability.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 23/04/2019 14:36

if she’s planning to do a mad king and burn everything once the dead arrive

Something like her using the wildfire last time. But on a larger scale maybe. To take out the dead and the north army.

I think shes just waiting, assuming the North will win but there will be no army left. Then she can either sit on the throne and do nowt, or she can go and kill the rest and have no rivals. Fairly sure she has not considered that if the North lose, the army of dead will be much much bigger and they might beat her. Where if the north and her stood together they would have much more power and would possibly win.

Ugh, now my mind is thinking that basically thats what goes down, and she is killed also, and its basically 'because of peoples want for the throne, you have all been wiped out haha'. Sure the show won't go down the route of a walker victory mind, but its something that will stick in my head for ages now..

captainpantbeard · 23/04/2019 14:38

Arya stayed child like but a killer child, like Chucky HAHA!

The thing is, many of us had sex for the first time in our mid-teens. I'd wage a fair bet that few of those experiences were romantic or had sparks flying from the chemistry. That shit all comes later, in films. And she was lying there afterwards clearly thinking 'oh is that it and now I'm going to die tomorrow'. So fairly realistic I'd say.

I'm with the poster (on this thread or another) who said that we were reminded a few times how intelligent Tyrion is, and then he had that loooong chat with Bran........something will come of that I'm sure.

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 23/04/2019 14:49

I don't get the fuss about Arya and Gendry's sex scene. Arya has always had a crush on Gendry and he was always drawn to her. They were separated and had no idea what happened to each other and then found one another again under extreme circumstances. She admires his skill as a smith where he just happens to need to look hot and sweaty with very muscular arms and she is assertive and mysterious. They would definitely fancy each other now that Arya has grown up. It all makes perfect sense to me and I found pretty touching.

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 23/04/2019 14:50

Also, Maisie Williams has an old/young face. I don't think she looks like a child at all.
