Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

If episode 3 is the battle of winterfell, what about episodes 4/5 and 6?

Well Cersei has an army and a navy and wants all of the seven kingdoms.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 23/04/2019 10:20

Did anyone else think Gilly was pregnant? I'm wondering if the NK will try and take her newborn as retribution for losing out on her first born.

Holidayshopping · 23/04/2019 10:25

Did anyone else think Gilly was pregnant?

I thought the actress looked pregnant!

RedForShort · 23/04/2019 10:29

Arya and Gendry was fine by me, and definitely expected - she's been giving him the eye enough. As for no having 'chemistry' what's that? They are potentially about to die and she wants to know what sex is like, so no time for all that romantic nonsense.

I'm hoping it indicates her survival and her becoming mother to a king (though this does mean Gendry being recognised as a Baratheon first - minor detail I've not worked out yet.)

Will not deny though I was very much 'I don't want to see her naked!!! I've know her since she was a child!!"

But not disgusted or anything - there's been far more shocking scence in GoT!!

Bad feeling about Brienne (and Jamie) surviving. Read theory that Arya will wear Jamie's face to kill Cersi, but the trust is gone between them hasn't it? Or maybe it might work, it's more Jamie has lost trust in Cersai.

RedForShort · 23/04/2019 10:33

There's loads on Twitter about the actress who plays Gilly being pregnant (not sure if gilly is supposed to be, is Gilly and Sam's relationship even sexual?).

She's been in a long term relationship and is late 20s so not out of the realms of possibility. She's certainly got a plumper face than previously, having always been a very slim woman, and was very clocked up.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 23/04/2019 10:50

The first scene of GoT was the white walkers attacking the nights watch, and the wildlings.

Hmm yeah thats true. Its just theory I made up in my head tbh that seemed to make sense, but of course, therfe are so many variables that maybe it doesn't. I would really love for Sam to 'end the war' by kiling TNK protecting Gilly and the child though Grin He seems a prominent character, and shoving him off the the vaults with the women and children..must have been done for a reason. Is Tyrion actually going to the vaults too like Dany said?

The vaults really are not as safe as they think they are, noone seems to have clicked on that they are full of dead people, and TNK can 'wake' them to fight on his side..

TeaForTheWin · 23/04/2019 11:27

The Gilly actress was in an interview thing recently and she has put on a lot of weight, especially on her face. So I don't think she's pregnant, she's probably just piled on a few pounds.

TheInvestigator · 23/04/2019 11:30

If the actress was pregnant during that scene then she's have a baby by now, if the character is meant to be pregnant then they'd have mentioned it as it would make the audience care even more about the upcoming battle and any danger she or Sam are in.

Fazackerley · 23/04/2019 11:33

That was a truly shite episode.

I was quite forgiving when they stopped following the books, but last night's was just utterly stupid.

Doobigetta · 23/04/2019 11:45

Didn’t like Arya/Gendry at all, it made me very uncomfortable. I don’t think the timeline has been equal to 1 season = 1 year in Westero, and I think Arya is about 15. Ick. And even if she is 16/17, it’s still too quiet a shift for Gendry from seeing her as an annoying little sister type. Ick.

Loved the debate between Lyanna Mormont and Jorah- I’ve been waiting to see what their relationship would be like.

The crypt thing hadn’t occurred to me. I really don’t want to see skeleton Ned fighting his children.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 23/04/2019 11:48

The Arya scene I found weird, because it seems to out of character for the show. It also seemed forced tbh, and there was absolutely 0 chemistry, I don't think there ever has been between those two. However, in the books its quite different and you kind of see Arya mature and that, where the show kind of skipped that, if that makes sense? I know the books only go to Jon dying so a lots cut out too, but obviously the books had more character building and that. But, a giant detailed book like that, they cannot really get every details onto a show, would be like 100 episodes long per series!

Fazackerley · 23/04/2019 11:51

dany was about 13 in the books when she was married off to the dothraki

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 23/04/2019 11:59

Yes, author seems to be quite into paedophilia (is it that, when its teens? I think its a different word) rape and incest. Its slightly worrying! I am so glad the shows made all these people who were meant to be kids older..mind I would expect they have to as surely sex/rape scenes with bactrors under 18 wouldnt be allowed?

Doobigetta · 23/04/2019 12:00

Yes and they aged her and all the younger characters a good couple of years. It’s quite hard to gauge Arya’s age now, maybe she is meant to be a bit older. How many years are supposed to have passed since season 1? She was about 11 then.

sashh · 23/04/2019 12:01

dany was about 13 in the books when she was married off to the dothraki

Yes she was 13 a day or two after the wedding.

The age of consent in Tudor times was 12, Margaret Beaufort gave birth age 13. In victorian times the age was raised to 13 and then 16. I know Westeros is a made up fantasy land but children having sex and being married happened until quite recently in the UK.

In the US many states have an age of consent, but it does not apply if you are married.

PaddyF0dder · 23/04/2019 12:05

I don’t see the fuss with Arya getting laid.

Let’s assume the character is maybe 16 or so. And the actress is older.

Her character has endured trauma after trauma. She’s been trained into a magical ninja assassin and has butchered many people.

On the grand scheme, some completely consensual sex is a nice change of pace for her.

The issue is that she started in this show as a very young child, so viewers still see her that way. But it’s perfectly reasonable, on the eve of potential violent death, to want to try shagging. Good for her.

Lweji · 23/04/2019 12:09

Can the NK wake up any dead? Or just those killed by the undead?

TheInvestigator · 23/04/2019 12:11

@TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole

Sex and rape scenes with actors under 18 is allowed. But they cast older actors because there was meant to be a time jump which ended up not happening, and it's also just a better show with almost adults rather than children being the main cast.

Arya is 18 in the show now. But with the timeline in GOT, you just have to suspend your disbelief and accept that they've aged and time has passed even when it doesn't seem like it has.

Also, when looking at the books and the marriages between children and adults, you need to look at it through the lens of the time it's set. Not through a modern lens. GRRM based the story on the way of the roses and if I'm not mistaken, then mother of the king Henry VII was 13 when she gave birth to him. That's just how it was in those days. Her husband was 24 (but died before the baby was born).

We'd call that paedophilia. We would all calling disgusting. But that's through the lens of our time. Look at It from their point of view and it was the norm so GRRM is just staying true to the medieval vibe. And life expectancy was shorted so if you didnt get the next in the family line whilst young, you might not get one at all.

When Melisande returns, she could help by bringing the Night King back to life

Worst case, it would be easier to kill him. And he wouldn't have any powers, probably.

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 12:14

The timeline seems to be out on the show but Arya is meant to be 18. HBO tweeted about it prior to the episode airing.

But the individual storylines have never matched up time wise in terms of age/time it takes to travel etc.

I think it was fitting for her character. Her thing for Gendry has always been there she just didn’t realise it for what it was when she was younger. And like when she grinned when she was reunited with Jon, despite her initial approach with gendry it showed the human side of her again.

I really don’t get why people have such a problem with it, when dany was shown being forced into consummating an arranged marriage at 13, Sansa was shown being viciously raped etc...
Is it because Maisie looks quite young?
I guess because you were supposed to be behind this scene whereas the others you obviously weren’t

I think Sam and Gilly do have a sexual relationship, he lost his virginity to her and it’s been referenced a few other times by other characters. I thought the actress looked pregnant too.

I’m torn with how I think the character of Dany is going to go

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 23/04/2019 12:21

I felt extremely awkward with both of those! Its my issue though really as obviously its kind of to be expected given the show/books. I didn't read the books til after I watched a few series, which I am kind ofn glad of as I would have still seen Dany as 13 or whatever if I read the books first! Which would have made it worse for me.

Yeah I think part of my issue with the Arya thing is because Maisie really does look about 14 or something! Just seemed..odd, rather than a bit distressing like the Dany/Sansa rape scene.

C8H10N4O2 · 23/04/2019 12:22

SweetSummerchild Gilly’s baby is left at the wall with Val

Thank you - yes! So for the purposes of the TV series I guess we just have to pretend its her own child with her.

Its a long time since I read the books. I thought I'd wait after the TV series started and reread the first five alongside the subsequent ones. I'm still waiting Grin

Lweji · 23/04/2019 12:23

I watched the episode again last night and Arya went straight from not wanting to be bored with two old men to wanting sex with Gendry, as if it was an afterthought. As in let's see what the fuss is all about. It sort of ties down with all her previous talk about knowing death. Was she distancing herself from her death list?

TheInvestigator · 23/04/2019 12:30

Another thing I felt funny about with Arya and Gendry was that It felt like the Jeff Daniels and Anna Paquin sex scene all over again. They played father and young daughter in one film and then had a sex scene in another film and it was just so hard to swallow.

Joe Dempsie is 9 years older than Maisie Williams. She was a child when they first acted together and he was an adult.... now they have a sex scene.

As I said before, I really wanted them to get together anyway. I was just disappointed with the lack of emotion and feelz.... but I suppose with a war about to happen and with Arya being so closed off, it would have taken more than 5 minutes to show her walls coming down and have the scene be romantic so maybe it wouldn’t have worked either.
