GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8. Possible spoilers

Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

Going back to to the trailer for the whole of season 8, wasnt Dany shown at Dragonstone? If so, she’ll survive next weeks battle and retreat there with the other survivors.

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 08:19

The dragons birth has brought true magic back
I always always under the impression that the dragons came back because the magic came back, not the other way around.

The white walkers suddenly were on the move after 8,000 years, and then the dragons came.
I think the WW bought the magic back.

TheLazyDuchess · 23/04/2019 08:20

Yes but there's also Bloodraven, and his thousand eyes and one, who could be he three eyed raven, who could be the NK, who could be a Stark/Umber/Targaryen, who could be Bran?

Confused

I feel like I need to give myself a Biscuit for that Blush

TheLazyDuchess · 23/04/2019 08:24

I can't remember if it's explained in the show who the three eyed raven was, but he must have come from somewhere? And I read speculation somewhere he could be Brynden Rivers?

Lweji · 23/04/2019 08:28

Would they have crossed the wall without the dragon? Probably not.
And all that was to show Cersei how dangerous the WW were. Doh.
It's a case of where the "solution" is worse than the problem.

SweetSummerchild · 23/04/2019 08:30

he could be Brynden Rivers

I think in the books it’s pretty well established that he is Brynden Rivers/Bloodraven. I don’t remember that ever being discussed in the show.

BlackCatSleeping · 23/04/2019 08:39

Sorry, I didn't realise they didn't baby-swap in the show. I get confused between the show and books. I guess little Sam is fucked then.

I think they have to lose the battle at Winterfell. They still have three episodes to go!

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 08:41

This is supposed the longer battle ever shown on TV. Do you think the entire episode will be the battle?

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 08:46

In the books, they talk of rumours of a devil she-wolf (Nymeria) heading up a massive pack of wolves, who are killing Frey’s. Maybe in the show she’ll bring her pack of wolves to winterfell?

Also I fee like something might happen with Ghost and Drogon.
Like Drogon will kill Ghost, or Ghost will go for Dany, Drogon will go for Ghost, then Rhaegal will go for Drogon..

BlackCatSleeping · 23/04/2019 08:47

Yeah, I think I read that the battle will span the entire episode. it's going to be crazy!

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 08:48

Just watched. I really liked it. Loved it in fact after disliking episode 1 but it felt like a big goodbye to all the characters so now I’m scared for the next one!

I know there’s a lot of opinions about the Arya Gendry scene but I thought it was done well. Her crush on him has been signposted since the start, as has his connection to her - he sees how she actually cares for him and fights when he’s taken by the red woman and as an orphan in fleabottom that probably meant a lot to him. Now they’re meeting again and that connection along with the absence from each other morphs quickly into mutual attraction. Thrown in the fact that they all believe they’re going to die the next day, it’s the only way I think it could have happened.
I thought it was refreshing to have Arya take charge as well - it kind of reinforced the fact that she’s a woman now and she knows what she wants. And she’s always been very like that - from shooting arrows in the courtyard at winterfell when she shouldn’t be, to refuse ned’s vision of her future etc

I also think her guard dropped a little bit when they were both chuckling as they fumbled to undo their millions of layers.

I thought the Brienne and Jaime scenes were well done too and I love everything Tormund does it says Grin

The song was a lovely nod to the books and really well fitting.

Can you tell I loved it?!

Giggorata · 23/04/2019 08:51

I hope that it wasn't a portent when Tyrion told Varys and Sir Friendzone that he thought one of them might be wearing the Queen's Hand brooch before long....

TheLazyDuchess · 23/04/2019 08:55

BlackCatSleeping

I got mixed up on that too Confused There are just so many subplots in the books and show, that are similar yet different, it's hard to keep track, and the show's so far ahead now, yet the end game is supposed to be the same.

SweetSummerchild · 23/04/2019 08:58

Can you tell I loved it?!

I loved it too. I’ve been very on and off with he show since season 5. It’s had great moments interspersed with an awful lot of crap, but this episode was one of the best in a very long time.

The scenes between Jaime and Brienne were so well done. Jaime knighting Brienne is second only to their bathtub scene at Harrenhal. It was so moving.

Whilst I’ve never been a Gendrya shipper, it didn’t bother me at all and sort of worked with the episode. It was a lot less cringey than the awful Missworm scene in season 7. Speaking of which, Grey Worm is so obviously going to die next episode.

I loved the scenes between Theon and Sansa as well, which probably means he’s going to die soon too.

I am liking Dany less and less as the show goes on (and I never liked her much to start with).

Holidayshopping · 23/04/2019 09:01

I loved the song-it reminded me of Pippin’s song in LoTR!

If episode 3 is the battle of winterfell, what about episodes 4/5 and 6??

DeadButDelicious · 23/04/2019 09:02

Sir Friendzone

😂😂😂

PreseaCombatir · 23/04/2019 09:04

I’m quite we most likely won’t get a final showdown with Sansa and Cersei, because I think that would be super interesting

Middleoftheroad · 23/04/2019 09:09

Going back to to the trailer for the whole of season 8, wasnt Dany shown at Dragonstone? If so, she’ll survive next weeks battle and retreat there with the other survivors.

In S7 Melisandre told Varys that she must return once more to "this place/land to die" and that Varys would die there too.

Giggorata · 23/04/2019 09:13

I am hoping that Dany becoming increasingly unlikeable ends up with her going full on batshit crazy in the end, like her father.
Then she'll die in battle, or Jon or someone, possibly Varys, may kill her for the good of the realm..

SweetSummerchild · 23/04/2019 09:19

Yeah, Dany is going to be betrayed one more time ‘for love’. It’s always in the back of my mind. Most likely contenders are Tyrion, Jon and Arya.

Lungelady · 23/04/2019 09:40

I loved Dani's comment to Sense about her previous love being tallerSmile

C8H10N4O2 · 23/04/2019 09:49

My TNK only wants the baby story does not account for Bran saying TNK is only coming for him though

But also in the books I'm sure Gilly swapped babies so her son isn't actually the designated sacrifice. Or am I misremembering?

Epi 2 summary:
The crypts are safe.
Safest place is the crypts.
Nothing safer than a good crypt
Crypts are safer than places which are not crypts
This is the ISO standard of safe Crypting
Winterfell crypts - the crypts queens stand by
Yes weaklings - we will task you with defending the crypts as they are so safe!

Followed by:
Jon: I'm Aegon
Daenerys has left the chat

Episode 3:
Um, about those crypts we sold you...

Giggorata · 23/04/2019 09:51

When Melisande returns, she could help by bringing the Night King back to life.... he would no longer be motivated to end all living things, and possibly all the wights would cease being undead.. job sorted.

SweetSummerchild · 23/04/2019 10:09

But also in the books I'm sure Gilly swapped babies so her son isn't actually the designated sacrifice. Or am I misremembering?

In the books Gilly is sent away with Mance Rayder’s baby and Maester Aemon as Jon is worried that Melissandre will burn one or both of them due to their ‘King’s blood’. Gilly’s baby is left at the wall with Val.

LazyFace · 23/04/2019 10:14

Thank you, Dawg.

I read the books years ago and can't remember a thing.

I also think the show has veered away from the books so much that they have to be considered on their own and not based on what was in the books. (Which most youtube videos seem to be based on.)
