Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

@8dayweek I was not arguing with you. I totally agree. Sorry.

TeaForTheWin · 22/04/2019 12:59

Yeah, allies...but not competition for the throne :/ I guess it's a question of if love or power is more important to her...I think she'll turn on jon if she feels he is a threat to her power.

agree agirlhasnoname, it seems to be setting it up for something bad to come for the people in the crypts :(

ElenadeClermont · 22/04/2019 13:10

It was in the Dance of the Dragons tale that a dragon may have laid eggs in Winterfell.

By the time the Dance of the Dragons began, Vermax was big enough to ride. Prince Jacaerys flew north on his back, as a messenger for his mother, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, to treat with Lady Jeyne Arryn, Lord Manderly, and Lord Cregan Stark. The mission was a success. The Testimony of Mushroom claims that Vermax laid a clutch of eggs in the depths of the crypts of Winterfell, but this tale is most likely false.

Bran while warging Summer possibly saw a dragon over Winterfell (when Ramsey burnt Winterfell down).

AngeloMysterioso · 22/04/2019 13:14

Me too! So many little moments like Ser Davis, Ginny and the girl with the burns getting soup as well as the main characters. Need it to be next week now!

No that was grayscale, the same as Shireen. In children it is a fairly mild disease but leaves them scarred.

It deffo looked like burns to me. Deliberately placed to make her look like Shirlene though

8dayweek · 22/04/2019 13:21

@ElenadeClermont Don't apologise, I didn't think you were arguing. You got to the point of what I meant more than I did! Grin

I don't know what will happen in the crypts, but I think something will. In the books they make a big deal about the iron swords to keep bad spirits away, but I don't think that's been touched upon either in the series? The dragon eggs I couldn't remember if maybe Old Nan or a Maester had told Bran when he was laid up?!

I'm enjoying it but am wondering if I'll feel disappointed at the end. Gah, he needs to write some bloody books! I can't take this!

agirlhasnonameX · 22/04/2019 13:27

I really can't see Dani spending her whole life trying to take the Throne then backing down because of Jon. I really hope not.

I didn't think Jon would want the throne, but now if he becomes King it means peace for the North and Arya reminds him to defend and remember who his family are in ep1, so he will be choosing between Sansa and Dani.

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 13:38

It seems to me that it's setting up for Dany not being Queen. She's too cold. I suspect she and the dragons will die.

Does anyone know about the Dany being raised in Dorne thing? She says that she remembers a lemon tree from when she was a child but there were no lemon trees in Braavos, so she must have been raised in Dorne, but what does it all mean? Even GRRM admits it's significant.

Argh, I don't know. Maybe I should just wait until the series is over and binge watch it. I can't take the suspense!

BelfastBloke · 22/04/2019 13:42

People saying they found the Arya/Gendry scene 'wrong' and 'uncomfortable'. Could you elaborate why?

I felt more uncomfortable viewing a child (actor and character) doing some very violent murders than watching an adult (actor and character) begin a very brief love scene.

agirlhasnonameX · 22/04/2019 13:48

I think I found it a bit disturbing (even though I was happy it happened), because you see her as a child for most of the series and even though she's a badass killer I still think of her like that. It was her lack of clothes that made me uncomfortable I think, even though it wasn't at all graphic. We've never really seen her as a sexually mature adult before, so it just felt a bit weird.
Agree it doesn't really make sense though.

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 13:54

For me it just felt odd. I think it would have been nicer if they had both shown a bit more vulnerability in that scene. Like there was no build up to it. No emotion. i think need to rewatch it though.

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 13:54

I mean rewatch the whole episode, not just the sex scene.

Flaverings · 22/04/2019 14:07

I think it would have been more fitting if there was more tenderness and, as you say, vulnerability, especially in light of the day to come.

ElenadeClermont · 22/04/2019 14:15

In the books from the Mercy sample chapter it is obvious that Arya is growing up and a beautiful teenage girl, but perhaps the show did not make it clear.

The Dorne storyline was butchered in the show, so we will gave to wait for the books. Maybe she is a fake Targaryen and (f)Aegon is true.

Katastrophy · 22/04/2019 14:22

I think Cersei will be one of the only ones left
I had some random thoughts this morning - is TNK actually Littlefinger? Or Jaqen H'ghar?

I don't think we've heard the last of JH

agirlhasnonameX · 22/04/2019 14:30

She definitely grows in more ways in the books (so do they all) and she does grow in the show in lots of ways too, don't think I can put my finger on exactly why she still seems child like in the show?

I don't think Dani is a fake Targ in books or show though, wouldn't make much sense.

Why/how would the Night King be Littlefinger?

RJnomore1 · 22/04/2019 14:37

I’ve been thinking. Dani was never raised to expect to be queen was she? She was a pawn to be sold to get her brother to the throne.

So perhaps her reaction to the big reveal may be different to what we expect?

TheweewitchRoz · 22/04/2019 14:47

I enjoyed the episode.

I'm glad Arya and Gendry got together however I believe people were uncomfortable with it as Arya / Maisie herself still looks much the same as when GOT first started so she still looks like a girl, rather than a grown woman.

TheweewitchRoz · 22/04/2019 14:48

Good point@RJnomore1

AngeloMysterioso · 22/04/2019 15:22

People saying they found the Arya/Gendry scene 'wrong' and 'uncomfortable'. Could you elaborate why?

I wouldn't say uncomfortable exactly, I found it strange because prior to that point, Arya had been a pretty much asexual character. There was that line that Gendry had in S2 or whenever about her being his lady if he was ever in Winterfell, but that was sweet, not romantic. Obvs because she was just a kid then. So she's gone from zero sexual interaction, not so much as a vaguely flirtatious comment in the direction of any male character, to suddenly getting naked and jumping Gendry.
It didn't help that there wasn't really any kind of chemistry between them.

ElenadeClermont · 22/04/2019 15:33

I thought Dany was raised by Viserys who expected to marry her. He nearly went into her bedroom before she married Khal Drogo.
Viserys, while willing to wed Daenerys to Drogo, is resentful of having to give her up, and the night before the wedding tries to enter her room and claim her maidenhead. Illyrio, however, has the foresight to post guards on her room and ensure the impetuous Viserys does not undo "years of planning".
awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Viserys_Targaryen#A_Game_of_Thrones

Also Daenerys totally imitates her brother's ways.

TheInvestigator · 22/04/2019 15:46

I'm really worried about Gilly. She's going to be in the crypt and the crypt is full of the dead. Night King must raise them up before he attacks and Gilly will be there with possibly Sansa, Arya, Messandei... I don't think they can kill any of them but they could kill off Gilly!

DeRigueurMortis · 22/04/2019 15:50

What about Dany trying to kill Jon in the battle to protect her claim to the iron throne but the dragons won't allow it and switch their allegiance to Jon and kill Dany to protect him?

blancheduboiss · 22/04/2019 15:59

I really enjoyed this episode. Stronger writing, heartfelt talks, and some exciting build up. I am 100% convinced that Brienne is going to sacrifice herself for Jamie in next weeks episode. The knighting seemed too good to be true

NurseButtercup · 22/04/2019 16:00

@BelfastBloke

People saying they found the Arya/Gendry scene 'wrong' and 'uncomfortable'. Could you elaborate why?

She wasn't being raped, she initiated the sex and undressed herself and practically jumped on Gendry lol (I was silently cheering her on but also saying the first time is shit).

Perhaps people have issues with a young woman being totally in control of her sexuality?

TheInvestigator · 22/04/2019 16:03

I didn't like the scene between Arya and gentry because there was no chemistry. It just wasn't well acted.

Totally wanted them to get together. I know Arya has never wanted marriage or that life but she got what she did want; she learned to be a warrior. But she's been basically alone for years so I really wanted her to have someone, and the son of a Baratheon and the daughter of a Stark is perfect! But the scene really didn't have that.... oomph of feeling.
