GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8. Possible spoilers

Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

That was absolutely wonderful. Calm before the storm. Next week is going to be epic. If Line of Duty has another episode like last night's I'll be so hyper I don't know how I'll function.

Katastrophy · 22/04/2019 08:43

I have loved both episodes of S8 so far. I feel quite sick at the thought of what is to come. I realise it is only a tv show lol.

LazyFace · 22/04/2019 08:47

I'm a bit disappointed by this episode as well as the first. I found it a bit too slow.
And the Arya scene... felt uncomfortable.

GabrielleNelson · 22/04/2019 08:49

I didn't find it slow at all. It's all building up to the battle which is going to be so full on that it will be difficult to follow (my hunch). Different director next week. David Nutter directed 1, 2 and 4, which to me suggests that after the battle there might be an episode ahead where everyone regroups, finds out who's dead/with the Night King - and then what? I have no idea how this is going to pan out. I believe episodes 5 and 6 are a bit longer.

StickyCarpet · 22/04/2019 10:20

I think they've made it slow on purpose to heighten the suspense. There were scenes that almost felt like stall tactics.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 10:34

A solid slow-burner of an episode that set the scene nicely for next week. The trailer for episode 3 is on YouTube but doesn't give too much away. I was worried that it would open with the battle aftermath (much like the series Rome and the Battle of Actium) but it looks like we'll see plenty of fighting.

WhiskersPete · 22/04/2019 10:35

Greyworm has had it I’m afraid after that scene with missandei - that was a goodbye

Flaverings · 22/04/2019 10:39

I loved the episode, definitely one for those who focus on the relationships between characters rather than the CGI, battles etc.

WhiskersPete · 22/04/2019 10:40

I think Jorah has had it too after that scene with Dany and then Lyanna. Closure for him before he pops his clogs

Flaverings · 22/04/2019 10:53

(I think the little girl had a burn, not greyscale).

Encyclo · 22/04/2019 11:07

Loved that episode. God I don’t want to lose any of them! I fear for Tyrion the most.

Flaverings · 22/04/2019 11:19

Is it really a case that the night king will be defeated so early? Perhaps the living will just be about to win and then Cersai will interfere and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 11:20

Jorah definitely a goner, if not next week then definitely by the end of the series. He'll sacrifice himself to save his beloved Khaleesi. Interestingly in the books he and Dany share a kiss but the show runners have chosen not to replicate that in the tv series. I don't know why as Iain Glenn is far more attractive than book Jorah and I think he has more chemistry with Emilia Clarke than Kit Harington does!

Grey Worm may have had it too. But please not Tormund or Edd, two of my favourite minor characters.

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 11:36

At the end, the white walkers were there but not the Night King. I wonder where he has gone.

Kit Harrington said the filming for the battle scene was epic. One of the biggest ever filmed and all filmed at night for over a month. I don’t know if this is the winterfell battle or a different one still to come.

xsquared · 22/04/2019 11:36

Love Brienne's knighting scene and for it to have been done by Jaime. Her face when Tormund told the story about the giant's wife!

I hope Cersei and Euron are not the last ones standing.

agirlhasnonameX · 22/04/2019 11:45

I'm so worried about Tyrion and Brienne after last night. Grey Worm definitely isn't coming back either.

Had to laugh when Theon said he would protect Bran Hmm and still hate that prick so don't care if he dies.

I was actually happy with the Arya and Gendry cliche, although I was a little disturbed by it.

And I'm ecstatic that Dani isn't happy about Jon. I hope neither of them bend the knee.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/04/2019 11:50

Just watched it. One of the best eps ever. Not remotely slow but full of characterisation I cried at Theon, tears when Jaime knighted Brienne. So many great moments .

Dany has got to go, the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned

MaddieElla · 22/04/2019 12:01

LOVED THAT! Had so many lump in throat moments. Theon, Brienne knighted, just the feeling that something bad is coming and we're going to be broken hearted several times over very soon.

Arya sex scene just wrong.

Tormund and the giant story Grin

I thought the Night King wasn't there cos he'll come in on his dragon later.

Fab episode, very much building suspense.

8dayweek · 22/04/2019 12:26

I'm on the fence. Didn't like Arya and Gendry shagging but like Theon coming back to fight for the Starks. I think Dany looked a bit rocked at that point because she realised those loyal to her have other loyalties IYSWIM? It's one thing freeing slaves who have been conditioned to follow all their lives but the Westerosi are different.

8dayweek · 22/04/2019 12:29

Loved the giant story and the line "is the big woman here?" and how Tormund seemed to be trying to out alpha Jaime for Brienne's affection Grin

I think the Arya / Gendry thing bothered me more as I'm thinking too book characters (Arya is supposed to be like Lyanna and Gendry is said to be the spit of young Robert Baratheon)

TeaForTheWin · 22/04/2019 12:40

I had been rooting for Arya and Gendry but then when they actually met again it just all felt so wrong lol.

Did you catch Tyrions 'maybe i'll march to kings landing and kill cerci' line? I think that might be foreshadowing (there was a rumor that the 'little brother' would kill cerci going about). I now have such a sinking feeling that brom is going to kill Jamie and tyrion will kill cerci as vengeance.

I don't know if anyone caught the teaser trailer where job, arya and sansa were in the vaults, looking at their own crib statues and something is coming for them so jon and arya draw their swords. I thought - why would their statues already be made if they aren't dead? So...maybe dany betrays them! She didn't look to happy to find out jon was heir to the throne afterall… think she will become just as mad as her father.

8dayweek · 22/04/2019 12:51

I know what you mean, I kind of wanted them together but it just didn't feel right. I agree with a PP who said that things are happening just to get to a list of things that "must happen" meaning we're missing some of the build up or gradual forming of relationships that we've had previously.

I'm not sure whether Dany betrays them, I just think she needs an attitude adjustment of sorts (which is where Tyrion comes in I suppose)

I wonder if the dragon (eggs?) beneath Winterfell's crypts will hatch?! I can't recall whether this has ever been mentioned in the series? One of Old Nan's tales perhaps?

ElenadeClermont · 22/04/2019 12:51

Dany has arrived with a foreign army to conquer the Seven Kingdoms. Surely Tyrion and Jorah would advise her that she needs local allies.

agirlhasnonameX · 22/04/2019 12:54

Tyrion's speech just made me think he's gonna die, either in the battle and he'll be a dead man or Bronn will kill him (so Cersei really).

I'm worried about all the people who will be in the crypts, there was quite a bit of focus on who will be in there etc.

Love Aryas new weapon Smile

8dayweek · 22/04/2019 12:56

@ElenadeClermont That's what I mean (can't get my words out today!). Dany seems to think people will follow her because she's the "rightful" ruler. But the small folk likely don't care too much and the higher born are a bit wary of their titles, lands etc being stripped and of "backing the wrong horse".

Ah I don't know how I feel! This episode felt right but wrong. I'm worried it'll be rushed and the story won't feel "finished" I think.
