Given we are only a week away from the final season, I thought we should have a shiny new thread to discuss the episodes as they are broadcast.

Anyone else going to be starting their watch at 2 am on Monday 15th?

I've watched the trailers and teasers dozens of times, and I am READY!

I have a theory that the Battle for Winterfell in Ep 3 will be lost, and they will have to move south, re assemble at Dragonstone or Kings Landing. After all, here are three episodes to fill after that!

I agree with @AngeloMysterioso - it was a bit too "quick", there was no build up, stolen glances, flirtation etc. It's not them being together per se, just the way it came about was a bit abrupt and didn't feel right.

Ikeameatballs · 22/04/2019 17:06

I thought the Arya/Gendry scene was just right! Typical of Arya to decide what she wants and get it, no waiting for a man to flirt with her!

I feel really excited for next week!

Robin2323 · 22/04/2019 17:07

Ayra has always had a bit of a crush on him so this was always in the cards.
Especially when gandry first saw her last week and saw lovely young woman. (You look good - I mean .....)

However as Ayra favoures Tom boy type clothes it is more difficult for the viewer to appreciate this.

Sansa in her beautiful dresses was looking very 'womanly' a fair few seasons back.

AngeloMysterioso · 22/04/2019 18:32

Also, so many people saying she's known him for years etc- she hasn't really. She knew him for what, a few weeks? Months maybe? Many years ago and now their paths have crossed again. Not the same thing. She might as well be banging a total stranger. Which is completely her prerogative of course, but as I said before she hasn't had even the slightest hint of any kind of sexuality up til now so it was odd.

SweetSummerchild · 22/04/2019 18:41

I loved the scene where Jaime knighted Brienne. It actually made me cry. So well done. It was so fitting for her as a descendent of Ser Duncan the Tall.

Loved Pod singing Jenny of Oldstones. Very fitting (Jenny died with Ser Duncan the Tall at Summerhall).

Sansa’s reunion with Theon was great as well.

I thought the Arya/Gendry scene was fine; they have more chemistry than Dany and Jon!

Overall, I really enjoyed the episode. I thought it was great (and that’s saying something for me).

TheLazyDuchess · 22/04/2019 18:53

Sorry if I have got mixed up, that scene is so vivid in my head, I thought I'd seen, not just read it Confused.

TheLazyDuchess · 22/04/2019 19:03

Oops wrong thread Blush

agirlhasnonameX · 22/04/2019 19:54

It was so fitting for her as a descendent of Ser Duncan the Tall.
I was so happy with this too. The scene, without the confirmation they are related was so good and emotional alone but even better because of Dunk.

I've just watched it again Blush and I'm convinced now this is a goodbye episode. Next weeks battle is the longest consecutive battle scene to ever be filmed in the history of tv including movies, so even though I didn't love the first episode I'm quite glad they did it like this, the suspense is huge and I'm terrified for everyone at Winterfell. Wouldn't have had the same affect if they had jumped right into the action.

I didn't think the Night King going South theory was very likely, but after his absence at the end of the episode and in the trailer I'm starting to think this might actually happen.

TanselleTooTall · 22/04/2019 20:33

I didn't get the 'feelz' watching Arya and Gendry either, sorry. It was because there was no context I think - it went from civil and courteous straight to, "she's taken her knick knacks off!" with nothing in between. Yes I agree with the lack of vulnerability. She is a killer and she's found her calling in that. She not a lover though. I would have expected to see a side of Arya that rarely if ever, is seen. She's never had the opportunity to be attracted to someone so when this opportunity presents itself, I'd have thought she would be somewhat out of her depth. I don't think she would approach it as The Assassin but as Arya Stark: a normal, rather cheeky young woman, who's letting her guard down for the first time around someone she's found an attraction to. That kind of vulnerability.

I cried at Ser Brienne, snorted with laughter at Mr Giants Milk and felt uneasy with Dany's reaction to Jon's reveal. Poor old Grey Worm won't last. He will not be taking his Misandae to Narth Sad

RJnomore1 · 22/04/2019 20:39

I certainly got the feelz at gendry Blush

LazyFace · 22/04/2019 21:04

I don't remember Jenny, was she in the books or the tv?
That song was beautiful and especially Podrick's version.

StickyCarpet · 22/04/2019 21:10

See I think they got the arya/gendry scene just right. If you watch back the last 2 eppisodes there have been so many subtle looks and tiny flirtatious exchanges. I think arya has become quite hardened from her experiences and for her to have gone soft in that scene would have been all wrong. She's still young and immature but she knows what she wants and gets it. I thought she was still cheeky with her comment about him taking his own pants off.

DawgLover · 22/04/2019 21:15

Jenny hasn't been in the show, she was the aunt of the mad king. She's mentioned in the books a couple of times. It was her friend who delivered the "prince who was promised" prophecy

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 21:38

According to a website I found, Arya was 11 when she started traveling with Yoren and 13 when she and Gendry split ways. So at least over a year on the TV show timeline. She is 17 now. There was never any chemistry, that I saw, between Arya and Gendry when she was young. He was always like a big brother to her. Anyway, she’s definitely a woman now, which is what the show wanted to demonstrate, I guess.

TanselleTooTall · 22/04/2019 22:04

I know RJnomore1Grin. When he was forging the weapons, he had those lovely black arm protectors on and he looked really appetising! I watched the episode alone but found myself blurting out, "he's really sexy" to no one but myself and then I nodded in agreement with myself! What a tit.
I still stand by my words that Gendry is Fassbender and Bale's lovechild.

Oblomov19 · 22/04/2019 22:09

Just watched episode 2. Enjoyed it, as a build up to episode 3.

DobbysLeftSock · 22/04/2019 22:22

I lurk on these threads because I don't watch GoT properly (I watch clips on youtube!) so I don't feel that I qualify! However, I have a question and it's bugging me!

Has the fact that Arya wiped out the entirety of house Frey been addressed at all? Does anyone know she did it? I feel like I want her to get some credit! They all seem to be humouring her in a 'alright, your a bit handy with a dagger but basically you're not really a part of this battle prep, off you pop' kind of way. She's a master assassin!

Carolwithane · 22/04/2019 22:23

Where is the red woman?

OpenMindedSceptic · 22/04/2019 22:30

carolwithane Melisandre has gone to Volantis. There is a theory that she has gone to fetch The Fiery Hand and will return.

Carolwithane · 22/04/2019 22:35

Thank you. I have a complete memory blank from the last season when it comes to her........

Oblomov19 · 22/04/2019 22:38

I believe that Gilly and all those in the crypt will die. This will pain Sam terribly.

I believe that Arya's weapon that Gentry made her will be critical. She will kill someone important, possibly as part of her saving Bran? Now that it's been acknowledged that Bran will be used as bait?

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 22:43

Melisandre did say last season that she'd have to return to Westeros to die and told Varys he too would do the same.

ohfourfoxache · 22/04/2019 23:19

Is Jon’s fate tied to Melisandre’s fate?

Whatever “magic” the NK uses to raise the dead, is that the same “magic” Melisandre used to bring Jon back?

So if the NK is killed, the undead that he brought back (I think) would fall as well. But if Melisandre pops off, doesn’t it not look too good for Jon?

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 23:29

No, because Thoros is dead but Beric is still alive. The NK doesn’t bring people back to life, he just reanimates their corpses, so they are basically zombies, the walking dead. Jon and Berric can both be killed now.

JasperRising · 22/04/2019 23:35

DobbysLeftSock not just does anyone know Arya wiped out the Freys, has anyone even commented them all dying? They control a crucial river crossing and have been key to the story but I can't remember it being a big deal to anyone that they are dead?

I really hope they don't wipe out everyone in the crypts... Not sure I could cope. I am torn been wanting people to die because it is more realistic than battles where the key characters all survive and not wanting to have to watch them die (because episode 2 leaves me think a lot of them are going to die). Maybe I will stop watching now and then I can imagine them all just holed up in Winterfell, reminiscing, forever...
