Married At First Sight- is this for real?

This can't be real, surely? Who would be insane enough? I've never seen the show, but do they explain if it's actually an official marriage? I would have thought that the whole concept goes against the solemn nature of the legal contract.

I liked the advice of the man who fitted his suit to make sure he looked good from the back in case he had to make a run for it Grin

Rumbletum2 · 29/03/2019 10:01

I think that once the “experts” have narrowed the list of possible matches down, they should show each partner a selection of photos and ask them to rate them, attractiveness-wise, without actually letting on which photos are of their matches.

That way, it’ll still be a surprise at the altar (in terms of exactly which person they are marrying) but they’ll at least know it’s someone they find attractive.

JaneJeffer · 29/03/2019 10:10

But even a photo can't help. There's so much to mutual attraction. For me personally smell is very important

Wall2WallArseholes · 29/03/2019 10:13

Jack's dad is disgusting.
The total disrespect he showed for Verity has left me so angry.
Who the hell does he think he is?

I don't usually comment on people's appearance as I think it's irrelevant, but this arsehole clearly feels that he is free to comment and judge everyone else's appearance so I strongly feel that someone should inform him that he's a fat, balding, ugly cunt.

Verity is beautiful.
I expect he wanted a blow up barbie with fake tits, lips and hair.
Disgusting misogynistic fuckwit.

I hope Jack is nothing like his father, Verity is a catch!

Hazlenutpie · 29/03/2019 13:15

Wall2WallArseholes

Why don't you say what you mean? Grin

Rumbletum2 · 29/03/2019 13:29

Yeah Wall..... you’ve got to get off that fence and stop pissing about 😁

SouthWestmom · 29/03/2019 13:32

It's all
Edited though isn't it. What, half an hour of tv out of several days?

Minglemangle · 29/03/2019 16:15

Another bad match. I was totally on board with Jack’s father when he was saying that it was a terrible idea but as soon as he started being rude about Verity’s looks I just thought what a horrible man, has he got any daughters? I would be horrified if my daughter married into a family like that! I have a feeling that Jack is in this for the z list fame, big brother type appearances etc.

Wall2WallArseholes · 29/03/2019 17:00

Blush I may have sat on the fence a little...... Halo

ooooohbetty · 29/03/2019 17:58

That's a good idea @Rumbletum2 but when one of the most successful couples (in that they stayed married and now have a child) met the woman couldn't stand the man, didn't fancy him, took ages for her come round and eventually fall in love with him.

ooooohbetty · 29/03/2019 23:27

I've just read a spoiler about what happens on popbitch. Unfortunately

ReadingInReading · 29/03/2019 23:35

ooooohbetty

I can't find anything!

ooooohbetty · 29/03/2019 23:47

@ReadingInReading it was in the weekly email they send

Peghi · 29/03/2019 23:50

I love this show. Iirc it's an annulment after 6 weeks if they haven't consummated the marriage which is why some were so coy in the first few series's. If they admitted to sex they couldn't have an annulment. I think technically that counts as them never being married (a la Henry VIII).

I don't like Jack, he seems very young. His family seem like wheeler and dealer types (cant think of the phrase I want but i can imagine his dad misselling PPI/used cars). They dont seem like a good match from that point of view- veritys family seems more "wholesome".

I think when it gets whittled down the family or friends should be involved in some way. Then dog-gate wouldn't happen and they wouldn't match people who live far apart. The two in the last series who weren't harriet and dick should never have been on a programme like that imo. He ended up on big brother and the like and just seemed really off.

mydogisthebest · 30/03/2019 08:08

I do think it makes a mockery of marriage but that doesn't mean I am not allowed to watch it.

I watch partly because I would like to see a couple that actually work out well and partly to see the sort of people that would even think of doing something like this.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 30/03/2019 09:37

I read the Popbitch spoiler but it was no great surprise

lardass88 · 30/03/2019 09:41

Which couple are they referring to?

beanaseireann · 30/03/2019 09:49

I can't believe all the snogging between Verity and Jack Smile
I can't see it working out. She looks much older than him ( I know she's three years older). He's only 25 which in my life/area is very young to be getting married/ settling down.
I thought there was too big an age gap with the other couple too.
The science is b*llocks. Smile

Rumbletum2 · 30/03/2019 09:50

Could be either.

Peghi · 30/03/2019 09:59

i can't believe all the snogging between Verity and Jack

I thought that but also I think its easy to get carried away at the wedding. Everything is primed for it, the families are expecting it and the film crew are encouraging it.

I remember reading something about it being a bad sign if they were super affectionate to begin with - like the couple where the guy went on tinder.

x2boys · 30/03/2019 10:06

I just read the Popbitch email yeah it could be either of the couples ,in the first season kate and Jason seemed attracted to each other and that marriage was over within a couple of weeks,Emma and James really awkward with each other but they did give it a go and they lasted about five months .

Thesearmsofmine · 30/03/2019 10:16

Hello! We caught up on the programme this week.

Jonathan comes across as lovely but all the gifts are a bit much, he seems to constantly want to please her. He should have left it at the giant jenga (which I would love!)! I buy little gifts for DH but I know him well enough to know ithey are things he would like iykwim. It’s the same with the silly things he was doing like the faces from food, they don’t know each other well enough yet. They are clearly not going to last.

Verity comes across well, she is bright and attractive but nervous(who can blame her!). Jack seems nice enough but I think he has probably been dating stereotypical Essex types and Verity is very different.
I also think his parents have set ideas on what they want for him and Verity doesn’t fit the mould. His dad was open about it but his mum was too polite to voice it. I thought his dad was awful, so rude, he hadn’t even spoken to her but had already written her off. I think they’ll have a nice honeymoon but once back home and living together things will be harder.

x2boys · 30/03/2019 10:28

One of the brides from a couple of seasons ago actually came on the telly addicts thread she answered loads of questions and came across as a really nice person it was Sara from Sara and Adam.

Peghi · 30/03/2019 10:39

I forgot about that thread x2boys!

Rumbletum2 · 30/03/2019 11:01

I was astounded when Jason was on Tinder within days of marrying Kate; she was STUNNING.

James (of James and Emma) was lovely. Cuddly and sweet but I like to think he’d be an animal once he got going 😳
