Married At First Sight- is this for real?

This can't be real, surely? Who would be insane enough? I've never seen the show, but do they explain if it's actually an official marriage? I would have thought that the whole concept goes against the solemn nature of the legal contract.

SpanishFly I missed that bit about 'potential'. I do wonder why so many people go in for this!

alldressedupinblue · 15/04/2019 15:11

I can't find it now, but did someone upthread say we can watch the overseas versions here in the UK?

Thanks

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 15/04/2019 17:39

Yes Australian and US versions on All4

alldressedupinblue · 15/04/2019 18:41

@OrangeJuiceandArmchairs

Thank you for your answer. Weirdly I can see them on the mobile app, but not on Sky catch up All 4.

Watching on iPad might be the answer Thanks

Just read that one of the American participants is now engaged to one of the counsellors from the show. I remember watching it and she was really annoyed at how his 'wife' was treating him. No we know why Smile

juneybean · 16/04/2019 09:37

We just watched season 1 of the american series and one of the couples are still together 5 years later, gave me a warm fuzzy feeling Grin

Italiangreyhound · 16/04/2019 12:39

I am now up to episode 5 of season 3 of Married at first sight Australia. VERY good, much better matchings than the UK one and more interesting/fun.

Plus the first ever same sex couple marriage.

And they are honest and admit that none of the marriages are legally binding. I still cannot see how it is legal in the UK to marry a total stranger! Anyone else watching the Oz season 3?

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 16/04/2019 13:34

@Italiangreyhound I LOVED the Aussie one. So dramatic. A man with a child and a same sex couple. Brilliantly done I thought.

Italiangreyhound · 16/04/2019 15:43

Yes, much more Interesting than the UK.

I think that the firefighter is gorgeous and his wife, Monica, is beautiful, super fit and very good at cleaning!

No spoilers please.

Italiangreyhound · 16/04/2019 21:55

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs dinner party spat is awful. Personally, I thought Bella was way out of line. Nosy and Nasty.

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 16/04/2019 22:55

I know!

Keller is a loser. He reminds me of an ex. When he was good he was really good but then get drunk, promise the earth and fuck it up.

Italiangreyhound · 16/04/2019 23:27

I don't know your ex but I do kind of like Keller. I think he jumped from Navy into marriage, it's not something good.

KitKat1985 · 17/04/2019 21:03

Finally caught up with the UK series finale.

I think Jonathan and Steph were a terrible match, and I don't think either of them came across well. He came across as a bit 'try too hard' and desperate to be married, and I'm not sure if he really cared about who too (although ultimately a nice guy). Steph came across as very high maintenance and prickly, and kept snapping at Jonathan constantly, and didn't really put the effort in.

Verity came across best. Jack was obviously pretty shallow and ultimately just wants a 5'10 skinny blonde with big boobs. Though in his defence I think he tried and I guess ultimately you can't force yourself to be attracted to someone.

thecatsthecats · 18/04/2019 14:27

Such a damp squib this year. I'm sure we've seen far more ups and downs in previous years?

I love how the Australian one includes the dinner party of all couples. Such a melodramatic, reality type thing to include, but also very revealing (showing how they act as a couple), probably very useful to contestants (to meet people going through the same thing).

The UK edition manages to be ridiculously try hard and earnest, whilst also incredibly unsuccessful.

greenpop21 · 18/04/2019 22:38

After reading this thread I have watched the first series of the Australian version. Wow, it's far more exciting. They say what they feel over there and are much more demonstrative!

ihatethecold · 19/04/2019 08:01

The “Experts” on the UK show should be sacked!!
I’d be embarrassed to be associated with such dreadful matches.

PineapplePatty · 19/04/2019 08:23

I think the Australia one is so good because they at least like each other!

juneybean · 19/04/2019 10:44

Pepper schwarz though Grin

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 19/04/2019 12:17

I know! Dr Pepper Grin

BuggaLugga · 20/04/2019 22:40

Can someone recommend the best series of the Australian one? No way I'll have time to watch all so shall I just go straight to series 3?

RainbowFox · 20/04/2019 23:15

I'm on the 3rd series and it's definitely the best one. 1st one was good too but 2nd was a bit rubbish

BuggaLugga · 21/04/2019 09:07

Thanks rainbowfox

RainbowFox · 21/04/2019 10:21

WTF I've just finished watching the Aussie season 3 and there was no follow up!!

Lweji · 22/04/2019 03:05

I think season 5 in Australia is the one with the cheating pair. Textbook MN Relationships. Everyone who suspects or has found out their spouse is cheating should watch it.

SinkGirl · 22/04/2019 03:37

Haven’t RTFT but I much prefer the Aussie version, and there was a lovely success story from one of the seasons.
