We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, film and kpop when the mood takes us. To get to grips with the lingo, try dramaloveaddicts.proboards.com/thread/24/korean-word-day?page=1

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

As an aside, in my search for English dubbed kdrama on Netflix I noticed a couple had been dubbed into Spanish or Polish, so there is clearly demand elsewhere in the EU.

I’ve noticed on several collections & reviews are in French do I think it’s quite popular there too

I’ve been thinking about the drinking companion oppa list again today. Setting aside any language barriers, the requirement is good company and a sense of humour, where the conversation flows, not hotness. PSJ is a fail for me because he seems like a lad and too interested in football. I really want to know if Lee Min Kee has the dry, absurd sense of humour that I think he might have based on his performances. I think Gong Yoo would be excellent company: funny, willing to play jenga, cards or darts and a generous conversational partner. Likewise, Siwon. I also think Jung Hae In might be fun in the pub too. I’ve decided So Ji Sub probably takes himself a bit too seriously, so I’ve crossed him off. LJS might be OK, but I have a sneaking suspicion he might be a bit up himself due his fame.

I would also want to invite Kim Seul Gi (the ghost from Oh My Ghost) and Gong Hyo-Jin (FL from Don’t Dare to Dream) as well.

I agree with your choices, and actually much as I like PSJ I can imagine him propping up the bar with the lads talking about Tottenham. Def think Lee Min Ki would be a man of few words but funny.

I’ve checked my oppas list & I have ruled out the married ones, which leaves:
Him off Black - good eye candy & a light drinker
Kim Jae Wook - yessss!!
Kim JaeJoung - v attractive (lots of guyliner 👍) & a bit arty farty (his photography progs)
Yeon Woo Jin - just looks like a nice person to chat too
Choi Jin Hyuk - how did you leave him off the list?

I think CJH may be a bit earnest and less fun for that reason. I can’t put my finger on why though. When I think about the roles he’s played, he comes across well but so I have no rational explanation for this view.

I would like to ask Kim Jae Wook about living in Japan, so I agree with your suggestion.

As an aside, I thought it was interesting that all of Lee Seung-Gi’s (Korean Odyssey ML) degrees are in business subjects: International Trade and Commerce (he got Special Achievement Award during graduation for this one) and two master's degrees in Trade Theory and Finance and Cultural Contents. Most kdrama/kpop stars seem to have done drama, film studies or something entertainment related. It made me think he’s business savvy and would probably be interesting to have a chat with.

Hmmm you may be right about CJH. I get the feeling that at the end of the day conversation will outweigh eye candy, although that may change according to amount imbibed.

Did I mention I ordered some Godori cards from Amazon? DS was initially interested until we watched a YouTube video of two American bloggers trying to explain the rules, at which point DH said it sounded like Go-Johnny-Go-Go-Go (a League of Gentleman sketch reference, where two of tem try to explain the - deliberately - opaques rules of a card game to the third player).
