So we are going to have some very sad scenes ahead, with Bright's wife dying :-(.

Not sure about Thursday. Difficult to believe he's defected to the dark side but it's looking like that.

3out · 26/02/2019 18:39

Do you think Thursday will die in some semi-redeeming shoot out at the end of the series?

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 26/02/2019 21:57

They didn't drain the chocolate vat once they took the body out. Yuck!

Was the house that was up for let going to be Morse's new house?

BicycleDynamo · 27/02/2019 08:53

We're thinking singing big will happen to bring down Eddie Nero at the end and Thursday and/ or a bright will do something very heroic, and at least one won't make it.

BicycleDynamo · 27/02/2019 08:55

*Bright not a bright

ChilliMum · 27/02/2019 09:22

I have found my people Grin

I think it's going to be very bad for Fred. I think Morse will discover that Fred is involved with Nero; either through his brother Charlie or the bribe from this week. He will have to make the decision to take down Nero or to save Fred.

He will spend time drinking whiskey and listening to classical music before deciding to do the right thing and get justice for George but it will be the final nail in the coffin for optimism / trust / faith for Morse.

He will probably just get together with Joan before betraying her father.

Fred will forgive him but Joan won't.

We will all be exhausted after being dragged through an emotional ringer and Morse will take the final steps to become the cynical loner we love in the later series.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/02/2019 14:25

Maybe both Fred and Bright will sacrifice themselves, knowing they have little left to live for?

Bright and Morse are definitely not your usual type of police officer are they? Do you think Bright was a colonial (maybe Army?) - he mentioned to his wife living on a 'hill station'?

diddl · 27/02/2019 14:47

" Do you think Bright was a colonial (maybe Army?) "

Have you watched the other series?

crazycockerlady · 27/02/2019 14:58

What's up with Fred's relationship with his wife? For the life of me I can't remember why it's gone so frosty!

LIZS · 27/02/2019 15:02

He gave away loaned their pension money to his brother, for a "business venture" which failed. Hence why he is still working.

diddl · 27/02/2019 15:19

"Seems like Bright doesn't trust him either otherwise why would he insist it had to be Morse to come out to the RTA?"

Because Morse could get there without Box knowing?

Because it needs to seem like Thursday is no longer "in the loop"?

Or what you said!

diddl · 27/02/2019 15:21

Hadn't Fred's brother also borrowed some money from some known villains?

When they found Nero & George, didn't Nero say that it wasn't him or any of his men who had shot George?

dontcallmelen · 27/02/2019 15:51

Wondering if Bright, is maybe in on the information that Strange is working on & Strange doesn’t appear to trust Fred anymore.

justasking111 · 27/02/2019 16:38

I wondered about Bright, when he called in Morse to the car crash.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2019 16:58

I don't want the series to be over. It's going to end badly for Bright and Fred.

diddl I hope it is one of your options and not mine.

diddl · 27/02/2019 17:09

Has there already been a corruption storyline?

When Morse was shot/ended up in prison?

Also when he took an exam & his was the only paper to get lost?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/02/2019 17:24

Do you think Bright was a colonial (maybe Army?). Diddl not consistently, no.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/02/2019 17:27

Diddl I did see the very episode where Morse ended up in prison, only the other night. James Wilby played the corrupt senior police officer (Deare).

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/02/2019 19:50

Just read about Bright on the Endeavour Wikepedia page - all makes sense. He comes across as more middle class than the other police officers (certainly his DW does)? Reminds me of the dad of one of my close friends (who was a long-term British Army officer).

Corneliawildthing · 27/02/2019 21:31

In previous series I had found Bright to be a bit of a wimp but Anton Lesser is amazing portraying how Bright's life has changed - firstly being ridiculed in his traffic role and now with his wife being terminally ill.

It was so poignant and heartbreaking to watch.

SparklySneakers · 27/02/2019 22:07

I think the chief super is always caught in the middle not wanting to upset those at the top but wanting to keep his men happy and ensure justice prevails. It's the same in Morse and Lewis that the boss is always walking a fine line between keeping the top brass happy yet supporting front line officers.
Bright always seemed shy, anxious and quiet but he's shown himself to have a core of steel under that quiet, shy exterior. He has quiet strength. A real old fashioned gentleman. Not sure I've ever been so enamoured with the characters in a drama before. Excellent casting and acting all round.

Graphista · 28/02/2019 00:28

I'm playing catchup while also watching the new series which is a tad confusing.

Bright reminds me of my granda on mum's side. Quiet, disciplined, intelligent and fiercely loyal and loving.

I don't care about spoilers (or I'd not be on this thread!)

What happened to brights daughter?

I think sometimes these days we forget that not only was it common to have many children then, there was also not even investigation of secondary infertility, and there were also more common hysterectomies occurring as a result of serious birth complications (though call the midwife is being quite informative on some of this, in reminding us what it was like)

I've a relative with a similarly sad story, only had the one child as conceiving another simply didn't happen, and because they'd had one dr wasn't interested. That child was lost to illness (polio). The couple were more bonded by tragedy than love in the end though they were always supportive and caring to each other.

So very sad what people went through.

diddl · 28/02/2019 09:18

"What happened to brights daughter? "

She died when young in India I think.

Probably explains how he was towards Trewlove.

Encyclo · 28/02/2019 19:10

Anton Lessers actual daughter has appeared in Endeavour also. Lily Lessor. She’s got a very similar style to him. She was in the episode where Morse went undercover as a teacher.

Deadringer · 01/03/2019 16:07

I really really hope Thursday is deep undercover, though it's looking increasingly unlikely. I love Thursday and always enjoyed the depiction of his cosy home life. He was a lovely mentor to Morse in previous seasons and I miss that. Hate that Morse is so under appreciated too, but I am enjoying this series all the same.
