Did anyone else get a bit excited for the trailer for that?

Also now we have Silent Witness and LoD in the Horizom I may never leave the house.

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 09:03

beanasseireann you did get that right. It was something to do with the Rita Hayworth poster at the transgender club and the DVDs she had on the side in her glam apartment. Also, remember the police chief emailed through all the files about Zalinku which is presumably how he made his deduction (off camera though).

I suspect the police chief adding the liquor to her coffee will be significant rather than just stress of the job. Isn't one of the Williams Bros things that they gradually reveal often unsavoury secrets about their characters?

I'm going to rewatch it (skipping over the first 'Deal' scene) as I'm sure that there are clues I will have missed on first watching.

So Natalie has a younger sister too?

RedForShort · 18/02/2019 09:06

Baptise figured out she was transgender because she had a lot of Rita Haywood films (might be more to it, as im slightly unsure why this is the bridge to that assumption).

Also not entirely sure how the man she's living with doesn't know. I thought they were in a relationship and he wanted to marry, but she didn't. But is it he wants a sexual relationship and she doesnt? I'm confused!!!

Plus see my above question: where did Baptise come across the information that the missing woman 'knew the truth about Zalinku'?

EveSaidWhat · 18/02/2019 09:08

'The prostitution and trafficking of women just passed you by'

No, but you said "The torture and mutilation of women is mainstream entertainment these days..." Which seemed odd when it actually portrayed 2 violent murders of men?

It may bring awareness to the grim reality of trafficked women in Amsterdam where some people think the sex industry is all a bit of fun as it's legal.

I don't agree with gratuitous violence against women in mainstream dramas. I can't bear Luther and that The Fall for that very reason. This, so far, hasn't shown that so let's comment on what's been screened rather than what you think may be coming @AnyFucker?

RedForShort · 18/02/2019 09:10

Oh I can't answer that about what he found in the police files. It was that Zalinku vanished suddenly, and that before that date there was no trace of Cafe Woman.

Can't figure out the Rita Haywood thing in any conclusive manner at all. (Other than Zalinku owned the club with transgender prostitutes where there was a Rita Haywood poster and Cafe Woman had many DVDs and several posters.)

beanaseireann · 18/02/2019 09:15

The Rita Hayworth link was all a bit tidy and quick. Yet he can't see that he and his family are being followed and monitored. Hmm

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 09:20

The Rita Hayworth link was all a bit tidy and quick. Yet he can't see that he and his family are being followed and monitored. I suppose in the 21st Century it's not that usual to find mega Rita Hayworth fans in their 40s.

I'm surprised Baptiste's wife didn't mention her discomforting experience with the guy in the supermarket. She was quite clearly perturbed by him. I guess so far nothing has indicated that Julien and his family are being followed and monitored (but presumably something will happen soon to confirm this?).

Ratatouille76 · 18/02/2019 09:29

Yes. We know he planted a listening device on Baptistes wife when he bumped into her at the supermarket.

EveSaidWhat · 18/02/2019 09:33

I missed the first few minutes, where was the shell collector murdered was that Amsterdam too?

Was surprised the murderer got a tiny bit of plastic out and a chainsaw in the living room Shock

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 09:38

No, the first murder was in Deal (Kent). I'm thinking that the analogy to the very rare shell is in some way significant too (usually every small detail counts).

Presumably the listening device is in the bag - surprised she's not noticed it rummaging for other stuff.

RedForShort · 18/02/2019 09:57

Big bag like that she's bound to discover it sooner than later. Well I would anyway as I have to tip out the contents to find things more often than not!

Don't want to nag but can some one tell me how Baptist know the name Zalinku was connected to the missing niece. It's frustrating me - evidently I missed something and it just came across to me Baptist just plucked it from the air.

EveSaidWhat · 18/02/2019 09:58

Blimey if it was in Kent it'd seem bit risky to transport to Amsterdam wouldn't it.

I do like the fact baptiste is older and not gung ho like a lot of crime drama detectives.

Ratatouille76 · 18/02/2019 10:01

I could with an entire plot summary!

RedForShort · 18/02/2019 10:22

The necklace the tulip man found. Was it was same as the one Natalie was wearing (do we know?) Could it be her younger sister's? She said she'd been somewhere else before being brought to that room.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 10:27

Maybe Tom Hollander's character is a Mr Big?

RedForShort · 18/02/2019 10:45

Seems likely NewModelArmyMayhem18. Natalie's reaction suggested so

I know you mentioned that earlier. Think a lot of our questions are getting lost there's so many of them (like my question about how Baptiste knew Natalie knew the truth about Zalinku ).

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 11:06

RedForShort I'm off to rewatch it...

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 11:15

Baptiste says "the police file mentioned a man called ...Zulenko" to Eddie Stratton and the latter explains a bit more about the gangster (and not having been seen for years)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 11:18

Zelincu

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 12:09

Hmm not sure I picked up on much else watching it again, except to say that I think the sinistral shell picked up from the beach (first scene) is a metaphor.

Bowchicawowow · 18/02/2019 12:12

if someone put a listening bug in my bag I am pretty certain I would never find it Blush

EveSaidWhat · 18/02/2019 12:34

It just seems odd that anyone with a head in their cellar would draw attention to themselves by asking the police to investigate anything. She isn't his niece and surely that would have obviously come out.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 12:38

EveSaidWhat double bluff?

EveSaidWhat · 18/02/2019 12:38

Unless (answering my own question Grin) he doesn't know it's there, but he'd surely have looked. Wasn't there a load of flies?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/02/2019 12:43

I guess the head could have been left there as a warning to him?

EveSaidWhat · 18/02/2019 12:44

Yes must be, like the Godfather horse head in the bed.
