Did anyone else get a bit excited for the trailer for that?

Also now we have Silent Witness and LoD in the Horizom I may never leave the house.

Newmodel, I am a style free fashion ignoramus. Undercut? Hair? Any chance of a quick explanation?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/03/2019 16:57

The undercut is a hairstyle that was fashionable from the 1910s to the 1940s, predominantly among men, and saw a steadily growing revival in the 1980s before becoming fully fashionable again in the 2010s. Typically, the hair on the top of the head is long and parted on either the side or center, while the back and sides are buzzed very short. I believe women sometimes have it done to reduce hair volume with a short hairstyle. With JR it was clearly visible when she had her hair up in a very short pony tail (I'm thinking just after the car chase scene in yesterday's episode, when she and Baptiste burst into nervous laughter)

The green circled area is the 'undercut'

I was more preoccupied with her shouty acting and staccato delivery. Her lips barely move. It all annoys me.

Her hair looked better down.

Piggywaspushed · 25/03/2019 17:13

And the laughing in the car was also weird.

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 17:14

What is it with her voice? The pitch sort of meanders around. Plus the barking.

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 17:14

And the laughing in the car was also weird.

Yes, like something from a sitcom shoehorned in.

hopeishere · 25/03/2019 17:19

Yes! The laughing was terrible.

Piggywaspushed · 25/03/2019 17:20

Also, hiding Jessica's pregnancy didn't work. It was pretty obvious.

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 17:22

And another thing - warming to my theme - there were some terribly clunky bits of exposition

Piggywaspushed · 25/03/2019 17:24

Rather enjoyed this critique!
Started poorly with a girl getting drowned, because she couldn’t undo her laces, and it was downhill from there. The last episode was a shambles. Genevieve suddenly showed she was human outside of the hospital where her former lover sat quietly contemplating until she regularly turned up all over wrought with a shaved half head and very little explanation. Niels, with his eyes squeezed too close together, became monstrous as we learned that his one ball diagnosis upset him so much that he was pushed, reasonably enough, into trafficking children for sex. Edward stared a lot, did that funny shuffling fast walk, killed a brutally experienced hit-man with caravan cutlery, and left him for dead, and then stared some more at the English Channel whilst stroking shells. Baptiste ran quite impressively considering his lop sided limp, and then drove like Colin McCrae across the Amsterdam cobbles whilst Range Rover nasties failed to shoot them, or their tyres, from 30 feet with submachine guns. The Range Rovers were well cast I thought. Too many convoluted twists, not helped by pedestrian and predictable dialogue. And whilst the other kidnapped girls were lined up on a low wall we were told that the other sister is Missing. Cue Series 3, set in Albania, where Baptiste has acquired joint nationality via a father he never knew until his mother explained she was there briefly when her Corfu holiday hen party boat got blown off course and the local coastguard picked them up for a debriefing. He’s now in training to make the Albanian 400 metre Olympic team to infiltrate another gang that look a bit East European and quite nasty really. Total bollocks.

longwayoff · 25/03/2019 17:26

Newmodel, thank you, Peaky Blinders kind of thing.

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 17:26

Posted too soon.

There were some terribly clunky nuggets of exposition put into Edward Stratton's mouth.

Something along the lines of "Here I have a photo.....that Natalie sent me so I'd know who it was we were saving"

RedForShort · 25/03/2019 17:30

Oh that summary reminded me - both DH and I were laughing last night about how on tv (and films) when being pursued in cars everyone can reverse at high speed - often having to navigate in a slight space and sometimes turn several corners.

It's so frequent if probably will need to be incorporated into the driving test!!

Starch · 25/03/2019 18:58

Yes! That bit was awful- the line kind of hung in the air like a bad smell, it was so dire.

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 20:11

"I don't know where she's gone. I know how much she was sold for, though" from her friend was a bit off too.

And the "Thank god my mum was a geography teacher" line.

Wingedharpy · 25/03/2019 20:31

Did we ever discover who the baddies were who were running the whole thing?...

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 20:33

Some random Romanians from central casting. Basically anyone non-white you saw was evil.

Charley50 · 25/03/2019 20:43

Romanians are European aren't they, and therefore (as a ethnicity) white?
However, I get your point.

Charley50 · 25/03/2019 20:44

I actually thought Niels was going to turn out to be the kingpin. Grin

Charley50 · 25/03/2019 20:48

I thought her undercut was supposed to make her look a bit 'alternative'.

Anyway a bit late to this thread and reading it backwards so please ignore me! Smile

ColeHawlins · 25/03/2019 20:49

Oh I don't know. I suppose I mean darker skinned.

Charley50 · 25/03/2019 20:52

@Thewheelsarefallingoff - I jumped out of my skin too! The way that scene was shot it felt like being in the car. (I think I might put a whiplash claim in).

Baptiste on the beach at the end was like the Dalai freakin' Lama

piggywaspushed brilliant review made me laugh Grin
