Nigella 's quick pea soup recipe using frozen peas is a staple in our house.

VanillaSugary · 01/11/2018 19:38

bookbook · 01/11/2018 19:39

the creme brulee in a big dish , the slow roast lamb salad with pomegranates , chicken with 40 cloves of garlic and her way of making potato dauphinoise .... and more I think !

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/11/2018 19:41

She had a t-shirt with "Let's be having EU" on the march. She's a good egg.

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 19:42

I bought a new Be Ro book this week! (After my daughter pinched my original and the removal men lost the replacement one - three years ago). I didn't know anyone else even KNEW about Be Ro. Oh happy day! Grin

Coffee Kisses anyone?

FekkoThePenguin · 01/11/2018 19:43

NEW Bero? Mine is from just after the war (from mums home economics class).

Miscible · 01/11/2018 19:43

Ah, now Delia's is the one book that does get opened in our house, because it's so foolproof. And, with me cooking, it needs to be.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 19:48

book - I've got the Dairy book too! Also from our milkwumman (we are very progressive here). I'd forgotten about it, but I remember loving it when I first got it - I'll have to have a dig about on my shelf of 1,000 Unopened Cookbooks.

From what I remember it had lots of little interesting snippets, too. (You know the sort of thing - "In the 18 century it was widely believed that the purpose of teeth was to stop your gums from fraying, and so they tried to strengthen them with this delicious posset made out of hen's claws and rennet, in order to prevent unravelling of the mouth.") I love stuff like that. Grin

My first Be-Ro book fell to bits with use (it was my mam's) and I think the one I've got now (also well-thumbed, and smeared with jam and cake mix) is the 27th edition (20-somethingth, anyway). I LUFFS it!

bookbook · 01/11/2018 19:54

Fuzzy - I got a Be-Ro book from ebay a few years ago. My Mum had one , but dear Hmm sister inherited it ......

bookbook · 01/11/2018 19:57

youngsters using t'internet will never have the joy of opening ( carefully peeling apart ) the pages with splattered batter and floury thumbprints on the best recipe pages

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/11/2018 20:07

Or the joy of pulling a book from the highest bookshelf and dropping it on your toe and then trying not to swear so as not to wake up the dogs and then watching in horror your toenail turning slowly black.

Or maybe that's me.

Taffeta · 01/11/2018 20:07

Ooh I have Hugh FernleyWernley’s Every Day and use it erm not every day.

But there’s a bloody nice baked curry recipe in it we eat a lot.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/11/2018 20:08

And cookbooks are usually heavy beasts.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 20:09

I can see the scene as though I was there myself book - you and Sister in the solicitor's office . . . the will is read . . . the Book goes to . . . whoever wants it the MOST . . . there is a tense two-hour negotiation - no-one caves . . . it comes down to a duel . . . rolling pins - sharpened- are produced . . . the Battle Royal starts . . .

. . . in less than a minute the walls of the office are covered in skin and hair, but still, the battle rages - tragically an hour in book slips in a pool of her own blood . . . Sister is VICTORIOUS and carries off her prize in joyful triumph. Book accepts defeat with a quiet dignity, resolving to go NC . . . terrified solicitor emerges from under desk and resigns from the Law Society, retiring to Wales to breed racing sheep . . .

That's what happened, isn't it book? Please tell me IT WAS EXACTLY LIKE THAT!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 20:11

A good recipe is worth losing a toenail for Chardonnay's

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 20:14

New Be Ro books are £2.99 from Be Ro's website. Bargain. (Although the Coffee Kisses are now mocha Kisses but I shall forgive them that.
We need a new thread...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/11/2018 20:15

Definitely not worthy of the latest GBBO oeuvre.

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 20:16

But I like Schady's take on the bookbook book fight better.

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 20:18

Someone cleverer than me start a new thread QUICK PLEASE.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 20:23

Not sure how to link

thread title

To Be-Ro or not to Be-Ro . . . that is the question

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 20:24

Does this work?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3411662-To-Be-Ro-or-not-to-Be-Ro-that-is-the-question

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 20:27

Yes it works! Hurrah!

FuzzyCustard · 01/11/2018 20:28

And now I am finishing the thread with some blue icing and a slime pond.
