...or will Kim Joy claim the title? Will Rahul nail it with a bake they DO have in India?

It’s anyone’s to lose.

Who buys all these books?

It seems every contestant on GBBO has a book deal, that's a lot of books.

So, hands up, who has ever bought one?

I'll start, I have a GBBO "official" book and a John Waite one, remember him?

Plessis · 01/11/2018 10:23

Dd has the original baking one.

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 01/11/2018 10:24

Allegedly C4 only have GBBO for 3 series so the concept will be up for auction again next year. Let's start petitioning the BBC to bring it back to---- its former glory.

Where do I sign?

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 01/11/2018 10:29

I read somewhere that the most popular and saleable books are those about golf, cats, Hitler's Circle of Evil, and cookery.

Miscible · 01/11/2018 10:29

At this time of year, they probably hope to sell books for the Christmas present market. Then they gather dust unopened on someone's kitchen shelf forever. Can you tell I have a row of dusty books in my kitchen?

Miscible · 01/11/2018 10:30

Alan Coren write a book called "Golfing for Cats" based on that premise, Schadenfreude.

derxa · 01/11/2018 10:34

Who buys all these books? It's a bloody mystery. Craig Revel Horwood's third autobiography anyone?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 10:41

Bugger! Pipped to the post Miscible

DarlingNikita · 01/11/2018 10:42

IMO, people who buy their books in the supermarket, and generally as presents for other people. You know: 'Oh, there's that bloke from Strictly's book. X likes Strictly – I'll get that for their next Christmas/birthday, they'll love it. Now, what's next... toilet cleaner, satsumas, mature cheddar...'

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2018 10:43

What? I could understand someone murdering Craig derxa, but who keeps resurrecting him?

Does he re-form from his own ashes if a smear of greasepaint gets slathered onto his urn?

LimpyLampy · 01/11/2018 10:46

They end up in Pound shops I suppose. I’ve been gifted one from a one off never renewed contract tv presenter. It was utter rubbish.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/11/2018 10:47

Out of all the seasons and all the contestants, and their books, Ruby's column in the Guardian was good, and that's it.

The rest seems marketing over substance.

derxa · 01/11/2018 11:00

Wthhat? I could understand someone murdering Craig derxa, but who keeps resurrecting him? I know you're funning with me but I think he's writing it in instalments. Much like Alisdair Campbell's 1,238th instalment of his diaries.

Andromeida59 · 01/11/2018 11:01

Disappointed by the result. I do not think Rahul should have won as his baking over the past few weeks have been dreadful. The Showstopper was horrendous and looked like something expected in the earlier stages, not the final.
Shame about the catch up at the end.

Ingurr · 01/11/2018 11:03

Candace Brown's recipes in the Sunday Times magazine seem to be very popular.

MnerXX · 01/11/2018 11:05

It's not me on the books. Both DH and I LOVE bake off, we have watched every series, I LOVE Nadiya (DH only like her the weirdo), we do a lot of cooking and baking and we have a lot of recipe books including celeb ones. We should be their absolute target for Bake Off books but we do not have a single one and no one has bought us one yet either.

VanillaSugary · 01/11/2018 11:05

This thread is about as divisive as putting cream first on Sc-ohh-nes

ChessieFL · 01/11/2018 11:33

I’ve got two official Bake Off books, plus books by Candice, Frances and Martha. I wouldn’t buy a Rahul book but would buy a Kim Joy book.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/11/2018 12:27

I'm not fan of Nadyia recipes. Her flavourings can be very childish, also she keeps going on about what Abdal, her husband, likes, far too much for my liking and I also remember reading that she doesn't eat the things she bakes because she's lost a lot of weight and wants to keep it off.
Now I worry I will be struck off MN, because she seems very popular here.

Candice's recipes in the Times are beautiful to look at, but I've never been actually tempted to try them.

I do like Ruby's recipes in the Guardian and her book, so that's the third GBBO related book I have but the only one I actually use nd everything so far has turned out really good. having said that, I wasn't even a fan of Ruby on the telly, she was a bit whingy.

I honestly don't see any more GBBO books in my future.

Graphista · 01/11/2018 12:30

Ditto!

"Who buys all these books? It's a bloody mystery. Craig Revel Horwood's third autobiography anyone?" I suspect they're bought as gifts for people who've given the briefest mention of being a gbbo/scd etc fan but who actually are highly unlikely to read/use them. But the writers etc don't care as long as they sell. It's like those crappy "Motown medley" cd's that are hard sold in run up to mothers days etc.

woodhill · 01/11/2018 13:14

Pru's test card dress was a distraction. Waiting for the girl and clown to appear.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 01/11/2018 13:22

I wanted Kim-Joy to win. I didn't really like her at first but then I warmed to her and so was so disappointed that she didn't win.

She won Disappointed . . . . she just didn't get the credit for it.

I have Chetna’s Cardamom Trail book...I love her flavours.
