Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/10/2018 21:27

...or will Kim Joy claim the title? Will Rahul nail it with a bake they DO have in India?

It’s anyone’s to lose.

Is it me or are they all a little bit crap compared to previous years?

AppleKatie · 23/10/2018 22:12

Rahul is extremely bright, just from a different culture, we love him here.
All true. But he’s lived amongst students for years in the UK and he’s never before come across the expression ‘to hump’. Yeh right.

Graphista · 23/10/2018 22:13

Thanks for new thread.

Ruby to win for me too!

Rahul shoulda gone this week especially after last week.

And Kim joys "cutesy" thing is getting on my nerves now I think it's distracting from whether she's actually a good baker.

Bishybarnybee · 23/10/2018 22:23

Rahul was really getting on my nerves a few weeks in, then I had an interesting conversation with a friend who has an autistic son.

She thinks he is classic high functioning autism. He's fine when he's engrossed in the task but any kind of social interaction is excruciating for him. I think she may well be right, so I feel more kindly disposed towards him now.

Screamqueenz · 23/10/2018 22:25

Rahul has lived in South Yorkshire for 7 years whilst doing his PhD, no I'm fairly certain that humped isn't a word he's heard used in that context.

I only know about it from watching American movies, and I was slightly confused why they were giggling in the tent, it took a while for the penny to drop.

moofolk · 23/10/2018 22:34

Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby!

Ah ah ah ah ah ah

She is my favourite and my best.

Toofle · 23/10/2018 23:16

Hearing Rahul's continuous drip drip drip of horrendously discouraging messages to himself makes me think how often I do that to myself.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/10/2018 23:22

It goes without saying, Schaden that I am your ‘go to’ alibi for all PH related incidents. If any such misfortune should occur. 😇

Kim-Joy drives me insane. She doesn’t seem to understand that she isn’t a child.

I’m rooting for Ruby, but as long as KJ doesn’t win, I’m happy.

LimpyLampy · 24/10/2018 00:32

The atmosphere has changed this year for the worse. Why did Pruevset a task that was ‘near impossible to do even for a professional baker in the timefrsme’ and then Paul berated them for running out of time.

I find Kim Joy hugely competitive and very passive aggressive, I do not like her personality type at all. Rahul seems socially unable for basic conversation, I hope Ruby wins but I think it will be KJ because they will have to do a big show piece and she will decorate ever mm if it equally gaudily.

calpop · 24/10/2018 02:51

I agree about KJ, that whole cutie adult child routine is so irritating.

misstblue2 · 24/10/2018 05:44

i hope rahul wins but he as a look on his face like the person next to him as farted
lowers tone of thread

wowfudge · 24/10/2018 07:46

I don't think they are worse than in previous years - it's got tougher if anything. Remember the awful final where they had to produce a wedding cake? They didn't give them enough time to produce anything that looked polished making the final a damp squib. It was the year Frances was in it.

Taffeta · 24/10/2018 07:47

DH can’t stand KJs lack of emotional control either

Doesn’t bother me

She’s right brain, creative, overemotional

Ruby left brain, logical, practical

Just different personality types

I like all three couldn't give a fuck who wins tbh

But yes ridiculous challenges now. The tech this week was again Creme de la Creme Prof stuff. Bavarois etc pffft. And then PH nitpicking and laying into them. Pffft.

neurotransmittens · 24/10/2018 09:06

I think baring any wheels falling from the wagon that Ruby will win and I’ll be happy if she does. I like Kim Joy, her attention to detail is amazing under time pressure. I wish I could pipe like that. She’s had a few recent wobbles but after last nights episode I hope she knows she can get through them.
Rahul however, don’t know why he’s still there. I was convinced last weeks results were fixed when he stayed in the tent in place of Manon. She didn’t have the greatest of weeks but Rahul was much worse, he just tanked. I don’t know why I’m typing all this because it has already been decided and they know who has won Smile

ThanksItHasPockets · 24/10/2018 09:21

I have reached the same conclusion as Bishie. I really cringe at the moments when Rahul is withdrawing into himself to focus and Noel bounces over like a Labrador puppy to try and jolly him up. You can see Rahul physically recoil and it’s excruciating.

Both he and KJ are not coping well with the pressure and I am finding it difficult to watch. The challenges last night were totally unreasonable and like a previous poster I don’t want to see rushed bodge jobs. I want to see talented people making beautiful things which they can be proud of. I can’t remember the last time I learnt something from watching the bake off.

HappydaysArehere · 24/10/2018 09:43

Beginning to think the Bake Off could possibly benefit from a change of judge - that is Paul Hollywood!!! Or am I completely wrong?

bellinibobble · 24/10/2018 10:09

I am rooting for Rahul as we work for the same institution, however both me and OH agreed last night that Ruby is the only person who appears to be enjoying herself, doesn't take the competition too seriously etc.. so I'd be happy if she won too.

HildaZelda · 24/10/2018 11:20

It's somewhat concerning that KJ works as a mental health professional yet panics and is almost reduced to tears over a chocolate mousse.
How does she handle stress at work?

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 24/10/2018 11:30

It goes without saying, Schaden that I am your ‘go to’ alibi for all PH related incidents. If any such misfortune should occur.
Thank you fleas - though obviously we sincerely hope that no accidents ever befall the Great Twat Man.

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 24/10/2018 11:35

Completely wrong?

Not even a tiny bit wrong!

Power has gone to his over-tanned beardy head, and it's about time he got the push. Also Prue - I liked her at first, but she has proved almost equally unreasonable. TBH, if this wasn't public, I think she would be a right cow with the competitors sometimes.

Give them time, give them sensible challenges and give us a well-run, entertaining and enjoyable show again.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/10/2018 11:37

Noel has made me laugh as the series has gone on. Especially when with Rahul.

flamingofridays · 24/10/2018 12:06

I think noel and sandi should judge.

at least theyd judge on what it actually tasted like rather than stupid shit like "that pastry is too big" because lets face it there is no such thing as a too big pastry.

iklboogiemanunderthebed · 24/10/2018 12:17

Sometimes Prue comes across really smug. Like 'I knew you wouldn't be able to do it. Think you're a baker do you?'

But maybe that's just me?

eddiemairswife · 24/10/2018 12:30

I like Rahul. Kim Joy is far too 'cute' for my taste .I find her extremely irritating.
Also, I don't have an all-singing, all-dancing TV, so a programme ending at 9.15 means I miss the start of something on another channel that starts at 9.
