Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

I am, 😊

I'm not sure how I fell yet about them casting a woman as dr who as it's always been a man, but I'm going to watch it with an open mind ,

I am looking forward to seeing it

SuchAToDo · 30/09/2018 00:14

*feel...not fell

darkriver198868 · 30/09/2018 17:46

Me currently watching series 3 at the moment. I am very excited to see Jodie in the role.

The Doctor is an alien who can regenerate and travel through space and time. I don't see why he can't become a woman.

BoneyBackJefferson · 30/09/2018 17:51

Its all very 'woke'.

But if the writing continues to be as poor as it has been it won't matter how good an actor she is.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 30/09/2018 17:54

I can’t wait, JW is an amazing actor and I bet she will do a fabulous job.

ChoccyJules · 30/09/2018 18:25

I like her Yorkshire accent Grin and it’s a new show runner so hopefully better scripts.

MorningsEleven · 30/09/2018 21:14

I'm getting really excited, the trailers look great.

rslsys · 30/09/2018 21:18

They totally squandered Peter Capaldi's talents, let's hope for better!

Davros · 30/09/2018 23:04

We've been rewatching the first three "new" Doctors and still love them. Although I would have loved the Doctor to regenerate as a woman a few years ago, I'm quite against it now as it seems so obvious an attempt to play to the mood of the public rather than a genuine attempt to do something original. DD (15) and I are going on strike, we won't be watching.

NC4Now · 30/09/2018 23:05

I’m excited about it!

SneakyGremlins · 30/09/2018 23:05

I can't WAIT!

Very true. I can't be doing with all the angst, I just want scary monsters and swashbuckling.

Davros · 01/10/2018 13:31

Agreed. And lessTokenism

AlmaCogansFrockFan · 01/10/2018 15:24

Yay, it's about time we had a female Time Lord. Have been a fan since 1963, and was sad to see how the original series declined in its later years Russell T. Davies reignited it brilliantly ...and then...oh how I regret my confident assertion to DD that Steven Moffat would be a safe pair of hands - he's written some of the scariest episodes I told her, even inventing a new classic monster (weeping angels) and his sitcom "Coupling" had been hilarious so was good with both the scifi and comedy. Yes there were some good episodes, scary, exciting moving or funny but the story arcs were so long and tortuous....I was a fan so kept on to the end hoping that it wouldn't get any worse, but felt that the mojo of the series was lost. I am glad it's starting afresh with a new writer and new hope for the series.

Davros · 02/10/2018 17:14

I agree with everything you say except yay for the female Time Lord. We've already had one, remember Missy? JW's outfit on the front of this week's Radio Times is dreadful, trying too hard to be wacky. And yes, I would comment on the clothes if it were a man as it's always quite an important aspect of The Doctor

Theorbo · 02/10/2018 18:26

I’m half looking forward and half dreading it. I’ve been a fan for over 50 years and although I’ve loved some of the recent doctors (esp Peter Capaldi) the majority of the writing has seemed way too complex and soul searching. I honestly can’t get my head around some of the ‘he is his own daughter and she’s his mother from 20 centuries ago in a different dimension stuff. I’d love it to go back to really great scary stories that don’t take a degree in metaphysics to unscramble ) .

I am very dubious about JW. I hope they’re not going to turn her into a bluff Yorkshire stereotype with a K9 whippet, a caddy of Yorkshire teabags and a string of “Ey ups” and “stick the kettle on luvs”.

MorningsEleven · 03/10/2018 08:54

Missy was phenomenal. I'm a huge Michelle Gomez fan though.

fanomoninon · 03/10/2018 09:03

Definitely be watching - and hoping for decent writing as that's what makes or breaks a doctor, and I'll be furious if they let the first woman doctor down....
Like pp we had high hopes for Peter Capaldi, and I didn't feel he ever worked really. I wonder if JW (regardless of sex) will be an easier write for them then Capaldi was (her youth/quirkiness/positivity at least in the trailers feels more akin to Tennant and Matt Smith, both of whom I liked)

ChoccyJules · 03/10/2018 09:06

I dislike the Doctor’s new trousers, they are just weird. Maybe they are the height of fashion in which case I wouldn’t know but they look daft to me.
I’m not sure what having three companions in the story is going to be like, maybe they are steering away from ‘companion fancies Doctor, Doctor barely notices...unless it’s Rose’ tropes, but it will be interesting to see if it works.
I liked Missy in the end, mostly I found her annoying.

ChoccyJules · 03/10/2018 09:09

And totally agree that Moffat led us down too many dark and twisty paths which ended up boring. Dialogue was dreadful.

The last series was the first time in New Who we didn’t watch it live; some weeks we even forgot to watch on catch-up because we frankly didn’t care. Which felt like a betrayal by me of my favourite programme but a decision made to spend my time on something else.

auntyflonono · 03/10/2018 09:35

Yes!

Davros · 03/10/2018 09:35

Me too choccyjules I'm not sure I've even seen all the PC episodes and I certainly don't know them like the first 3 new Doctors. I suspect that the gang of companions is to tick yet more token boxes

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 03/10/2018 09:44

I adore New who bit haven't watched any of the last series. A combination of moving house and not really loving Peter capaldis doctor (And the ever more confusing story lines).
We have the new series set up to record and I look forward to JW take on it.

Theorbo · 03/10/2018 10:37

I’m definitely done with the tokenism and what the heck is having 3 companions about? Two was one too many for me. It needlessly distracts from the stories somehow.

I also hope that Jodie’s doctor doesn’t have to reference the fact that she’s female every episode in the same way that Bill Potts had a quota of at least one, I’m a lesbian dontcha know’ each week.

I agree her outfit isn’t great. I’m getting strong Mork and Mindy vibes and not in a good way. I hope I’m totally wrong and it’s all going to work, JW and assistants will be fab, the writing will simplify and improve and they will try remember what the show is and not try to alter it for the sake of political correct, over-clever nonsense.

Whenwillthewashingend · 03/10/2018 11:37

I'm really looking forward to see how the series goes. The new Doctor, and writer doesn't bother me.
I'm a bit nervous what the music will be like now Murray Gold has gone. His music was brilliant. I still get goosebumps every time I hear Clara's song, or Here comes the Doctor.
