Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

Only vaguely related but Peter Capaldi is in this episode of Midsomer Murders and I keep expecting Clara to appear Grin

I don’t mind about the Doctor being a woman, just wish it wasn’t this particular woman because I just really don’t like her acting. Olivia Colman however, and I would have been really excited about it. In the event though I’m more looking forward to seeing Bradley Walsh in it. Holding out hope for better writing, though Broadchurch started brilliantly but ended up not great so, touch and go I guess.

SneakyGremlins · 03/10/2018 11:57

Judas I only watched the first series of Broadchurch, does it really decline?

SuchAToDo · 03/10/2018 14:15

When is the new series of dr who starting?

darkriver198868 · 03/10/2018 14:18

@suchatodo Sunday at 18:45

abbsisspartacus · 03/10/2018 14:38

Three companions sort of feels like they are not confident in her ability to carry the show

Saying that I'm looking forward to it

ChoccyJules · 03/10/2018 14:57

Olivia Coleman played a baddie in Matt Smith’s era so it’s unlikely the Doctor would have ended up with her features. Though it would have been interesting to see how they got out of that conundrum!

darkriver198868 · 03/10/2018 15:14

Thing is there has been three companions before.

SuchAToDo · 03/10/2018 15:19

Thanks I shall bookmark it in the tv guide , I can't wait to watch it 😁

darkriver198868 · 03/10/2018 15:22

I can't wait either. Almost finished Tennant series.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/10/2018 16:34

sneaky well it’s all subjective I suppose but I didn’t love it. On the other hand I’ve seen worse. Won’t elaborate, don’t want to spoil it for you! Smile

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/10/2018 16:36

But choccy there’s been a few actors that have been in it more than once as different characters so I think they could have got away with it (especially as the doctor can end up looking like anyone!). Holby have also used lots of actors more than once and they’v got no excuses!Grin

SoupDragon · 03/10/2018 16:38

Missy was phenomenal

She was awesome. Female and evil - brilliant!

Personally I would have preferred them to go with a non#white doctor before going female. I think that is more lacking in the series really.

Jodie’s outfit is utterly ridiculous - I hope they change it.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2018 16:40

Three companions sort of feels like they are not confident in her ability to carry the show

It’s not unprecedented though. There have been multiple companions before. Amy and Rory. Micky travelled with Rose for a while too didn’t he? Plus some from the older series.

Faultymain5 · 03/10/2018 16:45

Stopped watching with Peter Capaldi. Need to catch up then I'll give her a go. I'm easy. If the stories are good and plausible then yes.

Fluffiest · 03/10/2018 16:54

I'm relieved that there is a new writer. Found the last few series got too wrapped in the show's own mythology and made it more and more elaborate to the point where it just didn't make sense.... Or maybe I'm a bit thick!

I like JW, but her companions don't look compelling yet..but its hard to judge from a trailer.

ScienceIsTruth · 04/10/2018 15:58

No. I won't be watching. Didn't really warm to the last Dr & companion (& I usually do) and I'm really not happy it's a woman this time, if I'm honest.
They've only done it to be woke and because the new writer insisted on it as part of his contract (apparently). I think it will change the whole dynamic of the show, and not for the better.

It just feels that the last 2 series have been about how PC and woke the BBC are and less about the story & fans.

SneakyGremlins · 04/10/2018 16:06

In my humble opinion as a huge Michelle Gomez fan Missy was one of the best characters from New Who.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 05/10/2018 16:07

Anyone not watching just because “it’s a woman” isn’t worth the time of day to be honest.

The Doctor is an alien with two hearts and it doesn’t matter if that alien is male or female. It’s nothing to do with being “wome” (whatever the fuck that means) and everything to do with pushing the show onwards.

Personally I think Jodie will be brilliant. I loved her from the moment of the regeneration and her expression as she said “oh brilliant”.

It’s going to be good.

darkriver198868 · 05/10/2018 16:11

Well said Delores! I am so excited for Sunday.

RustyBear · 07/10/2018 18:36

The Doctor could actually have been a woman 30 years ago.
In 1986, when the programme was pretty much in the doldrums, the original creator, Sydney Newman was asked for advice. In his pitch he said:

“At a later stage ‘Doctor Who’ should be metamorphosed into a woman. This requires some considerable thought – mainly because I want to avoid a flashy, Hollywood Wonder Woman because this kind of heroine with no flaws is a bore. Given more time than I have now, I can create such a character.”

His ideas were not accepted, Sylvester McCoy became the seventh Doctor and the show was cancelled three seasons later.

MynameisJune · 07/10/2018 19:01

Wasn’t sure I’d like her but so far so good for me.

dementedma · 07/10/2018 19:05

not getting into it yet....

SerenDippitty · 07/10/2018 19:08

Definitely the main Cardiff police station there!

dementedma · 07/10/2018 19:08

lots of people looking bewildered and cautiously approaching alien things but not actually scared enough to run away from any of them.
rather manic doctor and no idea wtf is going on
