Anyone looking forward to watching this tonight? 9pm on BBC1.
It's a co-production with Netflix, starring Toni Collette (Muriel's Wedding , The Sixth Sense).

Apparently it's the naughtiest drama to grace the BBC! They've said they are ready for a swarm of complaints..

Ds has the biggest bedroom. He had s cotbed when he was teeny, then slept in with me. Then moved him into his own room with a double bed. Has never really occurred to me that it is that unusual!

Horsemad · 10/10/2018 20:47

One of mine had a double from late teens, the other hasn't because his room isn't really big enough to take a double. 🙂

VanGoghsDog · 10/10/2018 21:36

God, I'm about halfway through the last episode - could all have been wrapped up in 25 mins, it so BORING!

WWYD2016 · 11/10/2018 06:20

Wading into the double bed debate I slept in a double bed from toddlerdom until I left home. The character in question is still at school living with her dad she's not in halls.

Any way, I loved the final episode. I too thought Joy was unnecessary mean to Claire, Joy and Alan after all had invited her into their mess.

Joys exhalation at the end was an awesome piece of acting, 'Shit, this isn't what I want', 😂😂😂 Oh dear Joy.

I hope there isn't a series 2 a good ending needs to stay just as thst a good ending.

WWYD2016 · 11/10/2018 10:42

...ooh and to add, we saw in the early episodes that Alan was no longer sexually into Joy so I'm pretty sure he will also exhale when he wakes up Hmm.

SeekingClosure · 11/10/2018 13:32

That's a lovely summing up of the last episode Hoof. It helped me to understand it.

I enjoyed the series, on the whole.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/10/2018 21:50

"The character in question is still at school living with her dad she's not in halls."

Yes, but my point was that EVEN students in halls don't have double beds so I was surprised that a young girl would have one in her childhood bedroom.
Surprised also at the person above who gave the largest bedroom in the house to her son and not herself or herself and DH.

"Most student rooms have small doubles or even full size doubles."

Since when and what is your evidence? Never heard of double beds in halls, except special quarters for married couples.

VanGoghsDog · 11/10/2018 23:44

I've stayed in loads of halls when working away and I can confirm the beds barely the count as single let alone double!

spiderlight · 12/10/2018 10:29

I didn't interpret her exhalation at the end as 'Shit, this isn't what I want' - maybe I'm being a bit too Pollyanna about it but I interpreted it more as contentment. Eating those four muffins washed down with milk though - did anyone else wonder whether that was a hint at bulimia?

Overall I liked the series, but the last episode was a bit self-indulgent with Joy in particular. I don't think there's anywhere for a second series to go, really - it's wrapped itself up nicely.

icelollycraving · 12/10/2018 10:47

Yes, I think it’s all wrapped up. I don’t feel there was anywhere a second series could go.
gwen Ds has the biggest bedroom as he had lots of toys and he plays in there as well as sleeps. As he gets older he will study etc.
Mine has the en-suite though Smile

WWYD2016 · 12/10/2018 10:51

spiderlight I interrupted the 4 muffins as just a in the moment binge/comfort eating.
I have been known to do the same on occasion Blush, happy or sad, once the sugar touches my taste buds sometimes I go wild Smile.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2018 10:52

"Eating those four muffins washed down with milk though - did anyone else wonder whether that was a hint at bulimia? "

I personally didn't because I binge very occasionally and have no eating disorders. I just interpreted it as 'having a bad day'.
However, things in drama usually have a meaning so maybe I should have thought more about it.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2018 10:53

WWYD - cross posted with you.
Not sure muffins would do it for me, but some chocolate puddings or something....

BitOutOfPractice · 12/10/2018 12:01

The muffin eating scene annoyed me deeply. It was so self indulgent and told us nothing. Plus JUST BITE THE BLOODY THINGS instead of breaking them into a trillion crumbs Confused

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2018 12:09

"It was so self indulgent"

What's wrong with that? What's wrong with indulging yourself when your husband's left you?

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 12/10/2018 12:32

I thought they had both realised that they really wanted to be together at the end - I didn't know if that was meant to be regret the next day, I hope not. Did it mirror the start? I didn't see all of the first episode. I'm annoyed if she isn't happier. Loved that episode with just the counsellor.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2018 12:34

I didn't see the regret either Bees.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/10/2018 13:24

I didn't say Joy was self indulgent. I said the scene was self indulgent. The length of it. The meaningful silence of it.

spiderlight · 12/10/2018 13:36

I wonder how many of those muffins she had to eat during filming? 'Sorry, the light wasn't quite right there - we'll have to go again' Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 12/10/2018 14:05

I bet it'll be a while before she eats another one that's for sure!

southeastdweller · 12/10/2018 14:16

It was so stupid and pretentious. Who the hell food binges like that in real life? It could have been a really perceptive scene about bulimia but the writer messed it up.

Horsemad · 13/10/2018 17:21

Having visited over 20 unis over the past 4 years with my DC, I can categorically tell you, almost ALL had small double/double beds!!
Perhaps we were looking at the most expensive accommodation though. Both DC had double beds in their halls.

Anyway, I haven't even seen the last 2 episodes yet, so need to get them watched asap. Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 14/10/2018 20:44

"Who the hell food binges like that in real life? "

Well, a couple of us here have said that we do sometimes. Doesn't mean an eating disorder!

IronNeonClasp · 17/10/2018 09:49

I've just finished this and enjoyed it so much. I thought Toni Collette and Steven Mackintosh worked off each other amazingly. The casting was great and it was easy to watch - fab attention to detail. Has left me feeling a bit fucked up tbh. The therapy sessions, her deepest thoughts.

Hope it gets the recognition it deserves.
