line of Duty!!!

Also - both Keeley Hawed and Gina McKee were in LoD. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Neil Morrissey or Aidan Dunbar turn up.

Good so far

ScoobyGangMember · 28/08/2018 00:14

As if the sex wasn't cringey and unsexy enough ... Does anyone else watch KH in this and see Amber Rudd? Brain bleach please.

JeSuisPrest · 28/08/2018 00:24

Superintendent Ted would be all over this lot like a rash (for the purposes of the tape, one rank senior, that wee lass, fella etc...) I miss Ted Grin

BitOfFun · 28/08/2018 00:39

"Him being a close protection officer with a history of PSD is unlikely."

I thought that Scarface was pleading with him to get some psychological therapy, but acknowledged that the reason he never had was because he didn't want any records of his PTSD to hamper his career progression.

BitOfFun · 28/08/2018 00:50

I'm really enjoying it, btw, but I rolled my eyes at the sex scene. The unprofessionalism of it was so jarring, given what we had learned of his character so far. I couldn't help hearing the final line as "It's my job to protect you. WITH MY PENIS."

Gersemi · 28/08/2018 00:55

Did Scarface old friend shoot himself then, or did Slash Dave shoot him?

Of course he shot himself. How could Dave conceivably have done so?

ScoobyGangMember · 28/08/2018 00:56

With his great big gun, presumably. But yes, he shot himself.

Flashinggreen · 28/08/2018 04:08

I think if you can ignore the unrealistic bits it’s good. I wasn’t expecting the shots just as they were chatting.

The80sweregreat · 28/08/2018 06:01

The lead man is very handsome. Ds2 said he was in GoT but his character was killed off!
The sleeping together was a bit obvious / I always cringe at sex scenes!
These ‘high powered’ women in these dramas make me feel inadequate though.
I wonder how many real bodyguards are laughing at all the things that would never happen in real life!

LightastheBreeze · 28/08/2018 06:05

Looking forward to next weeks, enjoying it even though its not very realistic, but then most the stuff I enjoy isn't realistic for example Dr Foster.

I'm not sure if its my hearing though which isn't that good at the best of times but did anyone else find it bit mumbly, like The Handmaids Tale was? I think I need the subtitles nowadays for a lot of series.

The80sweregreat · 28/08/2018 06:10

We put subtitles on for all these dramas now! My hearing isn’t that bad but I find it easier to follow these dramas with them on.

actualpuffins · 28/08/2018 06:18

Does anyone else watch KH in this and see Amber Rudd?

Theresa May, I was thinking.

I loved all of it, great stuff. It's great that they are sleeping together, makes the web more tangled.

actualpuffins · 28/08/2018 06:19

It reminded me of Spooks more than anything else. Spooks plus Line of Duty.

beanaseireann · 28/08/2018 07:22

How come the bodyguard told KH not to worry that the armour plating would protect her, as they were stalled and the shooter kept shooting - it clearly hadn't protected the driver ! Was he shot through an open car window ?
Didn't like the fact they slept together but I suppose that will add to the deepening story about loyalty.
I missed loads of the dialogue because I watched via paused tv and messed up with the subtitles.
David's police boss speaks very clearly though, I could hear her.

beanaseireann · 28/08/2018 07:32

Was it a gun David hid behind the panel long- why?
Surely it won't be long before he is linked with the shooter- phone records. The meeting they attended, pub meetings ?

Gre8scott · 28/08/2018 08:04

He was in lady chatterlys lover and he is also in the Netflix film Ibiza he is extremely fit in that .

Violetroselily · 28/08/2018 08:31

Nice to see Jacqui Laverty making an appearance too

Gersemi · 28/08/2018 08:39

beanas, he told her that the windows weren't bullet proof but the body of the car was. Hence the fact he kept telling her to stay down.

Romcomjunkie · 28/08/2018 09:05

I would have been disappointed if they HADN’T shagged!

Why did they decide he wasn’t a security risk after all, about three days later?

hackmum · 28/08/2018 09:05

Enjoyed last night's episode hugely.

I too was disappointed at the shagging - in fact, I'm sure I saw an interview with Mercurio where he said they wouldn't shag as it would be far too predictable - but I also think Mercurio is a brilliant writer and the shagging is going to be an important part of the plot, not just a bit of entertainment for people who like sex scenes.

I also think that loads of it is implausible. Surely Budd should admit now to knowing the sniper, because sooner or late his connection will be found out and used against him. Also, I'm dubious about the way he seems to have part-time PTSD, and that it doesn't affect him in his day-to-day job. Would someone with PTSD really have been able to display that degree of calm courage when confronted with a suicide bomber on a train? Or when in a car being fired at by a sniper? Come off it.

It doesn't stop it being massively entertaining, though. And I feel the audience is in safe hands - Line of Duty remains one of the best things ever seen on British television.

beanaseireann · 28/08/2018 09:23

Thank you Gersemi as I said I couldn't hear and the subtitles were turned off and didn't want to mess with the paused tv and lose the whole programme.

raisedbyguineapigs · 28/08/2018 09:51

The paper was chucked away before I read it, but Amber Rudd reviewed this in The Times on Sunday.
I thought that as soon as they find out the snipers identity they would link it to David. Bit stupid of him not to admit it straight away, unless he is a baddie. I wasn't exactly sure what was going in with Gina McKees character either.

raisedbyguineapigs · 28/08/2018 09:55

I was riveted though and will watch again. I like RM in this but I find him a bit wooden for Bond. But then again, Daniel Craig...

hackmum · 28/08/2018 10:00

Have just remembered why I thought that Mercurio said they wouldn't be having an affair. It's from a Radio Times interview, and it wasn't him but the journalist:

"Mercurio’s new series has a single word title to distinguish it from The Bodyguard, the 1992 movie in which Kevin Costner took his duties towards Whitney Houston’s celebrity singer so seriously that he joined her in bed, which seems incredibly unlikely in the case of Budd and the Rt Hon Julia Montague."

Quite funny that even Mark Lawson didn't have inside info on what was coming.

placemats · 28/08/2018 10:06

Didn't Alan Johnson's wife have an affair with his police protection officer when he was Home Secretary?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2562578/Johnson-wife-divorce-Former-Home-Secretarys-23-year-marriage-ends-wife-affair-police-bodyguard.html

I'm enjoying it. I think the sex scenes were meant to be awkward.
