Well, the train and rolling stock confused me to start, as I began to wonder if it was set in the 60s or 70s! Obviously I realised it wasn't quite quickly.
I enjoyed the first bit, but I thought the rest didn't really live up to the beginning.

LunaLovegoodsRadishes · 27/08/2018 13:19

Bbc went overboard on the women cast in the first half hour.

Why must every powerful woman on telly be a bully?

I sense a flavour of "Homeland". Ex-army, now police officer, trusted to guard Home Sec, may be more dangerous than the muppets in the Met think...Hmm.

I wasn't impressed. We have a rule...if tge first episode stinks, and it doesn't get better by the third, all abandon ship.

wowfudge · 27/08/2018 13:51

I don't think you can say the character is a bully tbh - lacking in manners and considers herself too important to say please and thank you. Doesn't mean she's a bully. A cow yes, but a bully? And at least she realised how rude she had been to him.

Boyskeepswinging · 27/08/2018 14:04

Interesting that some people have picked up on the same colour palette being used throughout. The same teal colour seems to be used in several recent dramas, the first time I noticed it was in The A Word. Every single scene in it featured teal in one way or another: a mug, a sweater, a car, a wall colour etc. Now it's become a bit of a game for me, "Oh, yes, here's another teal drama".

Numbkinnuts · 27/08/2018 14:04

The Police procedure on the train lacked any credibility. The ' strong female characters ' on those scenes I felt were poorly cast.

BBC went to PC but in it attempt I think it failed and 'tried too hard'.

Him being a close protection officer with a history of PSD is unlikely.

Other than that if it was real life it would be pretty boring and the terrorist most likely would have had a shot to the head.

I'll keep watching as I am
Intrigued by his motives and I bet the female terrorist pops up again.

Optimist1 · 27/08/2018 15:05

I'm hooked! The idea that the Home Secretary might be hoping to increase the security threat and her bodyguard might want to kill her is quite intriguing.

beanaseireann · 27/08/2018 15:09

How does the sacked 'lackey' get driven around in a chauffeured Range Rover ?

FreezerBird · 27/08/2018 15:13

There was a segment on Woman's Hour a couple of weeks ago (probably in the context of this series but I didn't hear the intro) about what it's like to have close protection. The woman interviewed talked about them becoming a bit like one of the family - playing cricket on the beach with the kids etc - but I don't see that happening here!

Mind you I'm not sure I've ever seen a TV drama when a male and female character who start off disliking each other don't end up in bed together so we'll see...

CoolCarrie · 27/08/2018 16:51

Teal over load happened in the last series of Call The Midwife!
I like it and will be watching tonight.

DolorestheNewt · 27/08/2018 17:22

How does the sacked 'lackey' get driven around in a chauffeured Range Rover ? I suspect we will find out.

PseudoBadger · 27/08/2018 17:30

“What did David/Dave see the man doing on the train platform that made him suspicious? The man seemed to be rooting about in a bin.“

I think he used a phone then chucked it in a bin

DolorestheNewt · 27/08/2018 17:33

Ah, I was wondering that as well, pseudobadger. That would be a good explanation.

Whatfrenchplacename · 27/08/2018 17:34

Thanks Pseudo yes that is certainly suspicious - in fact it's hard to think of any innocent explanation!

Looking forward to tonight.!

Is the man who comes round for takeaway supposed to be the HS' partner as well as ?hmm, what is he, special adviser, PPS, civil servant? Not clear.

wowfudge · 27/08/2018 17:58

I think he is her lover - definitely sounded like a coded message for 'come round tonight' when she spoke to him on the phone and he turned up with a takeaway. Inviting Dave to join them was a bluff to suggest there was nothing going on.

TeachesOfPeaches · 27/08/2018 19:21

Im a huge LoD fan so have been looking forward to this. Thought the main chap was a bit wooden and lots of staring around and did think that the hijab wearing suicide bomber was a bit lazy but guess it ties in nicely with the Iraq PTSD storyline. Loved how gripping it was and will be watching each week.

Crinkle77 · 27/08/2018 19:24

I have just watched it on I player and was disappointed. I was bored and I didn't find the first 20 minutes gripping at all. You knew he was not going to die so I was just willing them to get on with it. The lead characters are unlikeable and I just found myself clock watching thinking is it going to over soon. I will give it one more go tonight but might bin it off if it doesn't get any better.

Anyonewhoknows · 27/08/2018 19:29

I really enjoyed it. Love Keely Hawes anyway.
When the man made the monkey comment and straight away got on the phone to put in his side of the conversation - wonder how common that is.
Did think it weird when the aide laughed about the coffee though. Something amiss about her.
Oh I also thought how old the trains looked!
Can't wait for tonight.

musicinspring1 · 27/08/2018 19:38

I honestly didn’t notice all the women in ‘top’ jobs until I browsed twitter and it was commented on so much. Agree with pp that it’s sad that men in those positions wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.
I enjoyed the first episode - I think he’ll intend to kill her but then end up shagging her...
Guy in Range Rover that picked up intern was also seen at the ex - army meeting wasn’t he? So definitely something dodgy with Chanel being a plant I think ...🧐

forgivenminds · 27/08/2018 19:43

How old is Dave/David supposed to be, he looks quite young faced to me ?

Was the army type meeting local,I got the impression who knows why it was miles away ?

Purplemond · 27/08/2018 19:50

Not sure on his character age but Richard Madden is 32 in rl, ive not seen in anything before but i googled him and he looks very different in other roles, not sure which look i prefer

EvilRingahBitch · 27/08/2018 20:01

I’m going to be gutted if they end up shagging - I expect better from JM. I didn’t recognise driver of sinister RangeRover from veterans thing - that’s very interesting.

TeachesOfPeaches · 27/08/2018 20:04

I think the Chief whip name calling incident is based on when it happened in real life. Ex Chief-whip Andrew Mitchell allegedly called a policeman a pleb and it was all over the news dubbed plebgate.

Hels20 · 27/08/2018 20:05

The chief Whip is Julia’s ex husband - I think...

I really hope Dave/David is a goodie. Loved the first episode and am excited about tonight.

colouringinpro · 27/08/2018 20:29

Catching up on Ep1.

Blimey I would Blush
