Telly addicts

I need an amazing, epic TV drama series I haven’t seen...

We are officially telly addicts and I think we’ve seen most things at this point. I’m worried there are no amazing, undiscovered things left and I’m really in need of something brilliant, multiple series etc.

Favourite series are The Shield, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Better Call Saul

We’ve seen most of the well known things I can think of (Mad Men, Sons Of Anarachy, ER, Halt and Catch Fire, Handmaids Tale all watched quite recently) and we’ve seen so much over the years I think we’ve bled TV dramas dry.

We have Netflix and prime but happy to get hold of other stuff too.

What’s amazing that you’ve seen and is maybe not quite as well known? I’ve heard Justified is good, anyone seen it?

The two big series I can think of that we haven’t watched fully are The Sopranos and West Wing - is West Wing a bit dated now? We did watch the first season or so of the Sopranos when Sky Atlantic started but then we stopped having Sky so it fell off the radar.

Suits
Luther
Power
Orange is the New Black
Narcos
Prison break

iloveredwine · 11/08/2018 19:21

the affair

missyB1 · 11/08/2018 19:22

I second The Affair.

AveABanana · 11/08/2018 19:22

I think the West Wing is more relevant than ever.

Marco Polo is epic.
Godless.
The last kingdom.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 11/08/2018 19:23

Black Mirror
Preacher
American Gods
Santa Clarita Diet
Westworld
Mr Robot

CoughArghCoughArghCough · 11/08/2018 19:23

Spiral (French police/court drama) is excellent. It is in French with English subtitles but that didn’t really take anything away from it. We picked up some good French swears Grin Its pretty gritty but has excellent (and frustrating) characters, is a good mix of horrible and funny. I think there are 6 series so far so plenty to get stuck into.

katmarie · 11/08/2018 19:24

The West wing is still very relevant, and actually there are moments where you think the writers must have been psychic to be able to write with such skill to foresee the world as it is now, I would massively recommend it.

iamawoman · 11/08/2018 19:24

I really enjoyed the Ozarks, a similar but not similar style to breaking bad. Also mindhunter although bear with it.. fortitude was good if you like a scandi setting

TalkingOrmer · 11/08/2018 19:26

Love/Hate is the best series I’ve ever seen.

bettydraper31 · 11/08/2018 19:26

The affair is simply amazing. Third series just started on Sky Atlantic. Might even be the fourth actually!

Orange is the new black.

makingtime · 11/08/2018 19:28

The west wing is an absolute must see. Put it first on your list. Amazing TV

bookmum08 · 11/08/2018 19:32

Battlestar Galactica (NOT the 70s original but the most excellent re boot)

Synecdoche · 11/08/2018 19:32

The Fall on Amazon Prime is great.
Vikings is also good, on Amazon too.
I really enjoyed The Good Wife on Netflix.
I'm assuming you've seen Game of Thrones, Sherlock, Line of Duty, Luther etc? All excellent TV.
I also really enjoy the BBC adaption of The White Queen but have that on DVD.
Versailles is really enjoyable too, on Amazon Prime.
BBC iPlayer have got a boxset up currently of War & Peace which is really good.
I really enjoyed Parade's End on Netflix.
On a lighter note I really like Mr Selfridge and The Paradise (Netflix) and Ripper Street (Prime).
Man in the High Castle is on Prime.
Girls is also great TV - again I have the first three series on DVD
I loved The Bridge - not sure where that is online though.
Deutschland '83 and Blue Eyes on Walter Presents also really enjoyable.

squirrelclub · 11/08/2018 19:32

Outlander.

Synecdoche · 11/08/2018 19:35

Oh and another vote for Mindhunter and Black Mirror.
Plus How to Get Away With Murder and The Sinner on Netflix are brilliant.

AutisticHedgehog · 11/08/2018 19:41

3 of your top 4 are my top three. I’ve not seen The Shield but will give that a go given the overlap!

I also recommend

El Chapo
Narcos
Sopranos
West Wing (may be dated but outstanding)
The Americans
The Good Wife
The Bridge
Borgen (seasons 1&3, I didn’t enjoy 3 so much)
Gomorrah
OITNB

I didn’t enjoy (and gave up after an episode or two):
Suits
Prison Escape
Luther
Fargo (but loved 1996 film)

LaMainDeFatima · 11/08/2018 19:43

Power

Pesky Blinders

DwightsCasualSocialOutfit · 11/08/2018 19:45

Fargo is absolutely fantastic! We've just watched all 3 series.

SinkGirl · 11/08/2018 19:47

Thanks everyone for your suggestions already!

Have seen most of these except we weren’t loving Westworld so gave up on that (and I gather S2 hasn’t been too well received so maybe for the best!)

Will definitely get hold of West Wing - must say The Affair never really appealed to me but I’m guessing there may be more to it if it’s still running!

Spiral is something I’ve been meaning to watch for ages so will get hold of that too.

Some great suggestions here but seen them already sadly (Mindhunter is brilliant, can’t wait for the next season)

BBC inplayer keeping faith and picnic at hanging rock are
Good so far!

Also orphan black was good on Netflix

Liked a New Zealand drama I think it was something about a lake

Stranger things albeit I've not got back into it as I think I need to watch from the beginning again

American horror story if you like the macabre

Benidorm is funny

iloveredwine · 11/08/2018 19:51
