Telly addicts

I need an amazing, epic TV drama series I haven’t seen...

We are officially telly addicts and I think we’ve seen most things at this point. I’m worried there are no amazing, undiscovered things left and I’m really in need of something brilliant, multiple series etc.

Favourite series are The Shield, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Better Call Saul

We’ve seen most of the well known things I can think of (Mad Men, Sons Of Anarachy, ER, Halt and Catch Fire, Handmaids Tale all watched quite recently) and we’ve seen so much over the years I think we’ve bled TV dramas dry.

We have Netflix and prime but happy to get hold of other stuff too.

What’s amazing that you’ve seen and is maybe not quite as well known? I’ve heard Justified is good, anyone seen it?

The two big series I can think of that we haven’t watched fully are The Sopranos and West Wing - is West Wing a bit dated now? We did watch the first season or so of the Sopranos when Sky Atlantic started but then we stopped having Sky so it fell off the radar.

This is Us -passes box of tissues and nostalgia

Magicstar1 · 15/08/2018 19:48

If you’re into real life, nitty gritty dramas, you have to see Love/Hate. It’s amazing tv...and gets better as it goes on.

'The Night Of' which someone has mentioned is excellent, a dark, whodunnit set in New York.
'1992' and '1993' are also good and a bit different, Italian political dramas with subtitles showing the emergence of Berlusconi.

LondonJax · 15/08/2018 19:54

Definitely West Wing.

Designated Survivor - my sister recommended this and we were hooked

An old one, weird but fun was Boston Legal with William Shatner. Very odd but I enjoyed it!

PolkerrisBeach · 15/08/2018 19:55

Mar de Plastico - A Spanish version of Broadchurch.

TheTravellingLemon · 15/08/2018 19:55

The Last Kingdom definitely. Love that show.

I gave up on The Affair. But I bloody love West Wing and rewatch fairly regularly.

SubtitlesOn · 15/08/2018 20:05

Music in EDGE OF DARKNESS is amazing as well

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 15/08/2018 20:11

Haven’t RTFT so apologise if already mentioned but Six Feet Under is my favourite of all time and Transparent is my favourite recent watch.

FlappyFeet · 15/08/2018 20:13

River.

It's absolutely fantastic

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 15/08/2018 20:18

Do you like historical dramas? If so I can highly recommend Sparatcus, my absolute favourite series.

Black sails is also good, as is Penny Dreadful if you like a bit of horror.

Flaskfan · 15/08/2018 20:19

Fringe - ignore x files comparisons, it goes way beyond that
Battleship galactica
Star trek discovery
Humans
Boardwalk Empire

We're coming to the end of our series, so I need The Passage and Consider Phlebas to hurry up and be made.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 15/08/2018 20:19

Prison Break is also good

LBOCS2 · 15/08/2018 20:26

I can't believe there have been 113 posts and no one has mentioned The Following yet. It's a bit older but great - the first series has Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy in it and is very creepy.

BitOfFun · 15/08/2018 20:29

Six Feet Under
Sense8
The Night Manager
The Sopranos
Boardwalk Empire

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 15/08/2018 20:29

Suits
West Wing is never dated
Lucifer is epic
Loved The Orville
And will always, always, always binge watch NCIS
If you want epic but retro, I still love Quantum Leap as a programme to make me think, cry and fall in love with Scott Bakula over and over!

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 15/08/2018 20:30

Oh Fringe is great, I forgot about it. Good call @Flaskfan

GoldenBuns · 15/08/2018 20:32

Tin Shield
The Man in the High Castle
The Deuce (same writer (?) as The Wire
Masters of Sex
The Americans

GoldenBuns · 15/08/2018 20:35

Also - Containment and Occupied - v good.

GoldenBuns · 15/08/2018 20:37

Ps - watched the Belgian version of Containment, much better than the American one IMO.

Thirtyrock39 · 15/08/2018 20:37

Homeland (later series are a bit much but the first few are ace
I've tried with the West wing but I find it very dated
Broad church if you missed it at the time

Butterymuffin · 15/08/2018 20:42

Line of Duty. Has been mentioned a few times but it really is fantastic.

Flaskfan · 15/08/2018 21:02

Belgium containment is called Cordon and gave me an appreciation of Belgian police.Wink

charliebear78 · 16/08/2018 19:10

I LOVED the Following-One of the only Series that ended in a way I was very happy with!!! ( infact I really liked it)

Bubba1234 · 22/08/2018 13:33

Not epic but party of five is on Netflix it’s so refreshing to see the 90s again suck simpler times. I’m loving it

DarlingNikita · 22/08/2018 16:59

I came on to say Babylon Berlin and Ripper St too. Glad they've had a shout-out!

If you can get it, I Know Who You Are was a gripping, brilliantly acted and really quite nasty Spanish thriller. It was on BBC4 but sadly is not on iPlayer any more just get it illegally somewhere

Patrick Melrose isn't epic (just five episodes) but is excellent. Sky Atlantic I think.

Nashville? Soapy rather than epic, but about five longish seasons, I think. Also Sky.

Under the Surface, Danish hostage drama. Only one season but very tense, cliffhanger every episode. BBC but again I'm not sure it's still on the iPlayer.

Check out Walter Presents if you're into international drama: The Outlaws, Thicker Than Water, Valkyrien, Rebecka Martinsson: Arctic Murders, Black Lake... All good. Mama's Angel (Israeli series) is meant to be excellent although I haven't seen it.
