Telly addicts

I need an amazing, epic TV drama series I haven’t seen...

We are officially telly addicts and I think we’ve seen most things at this point. I’m worried there are no amazing, undiscovered things left and I’m really in need of something brilliant, multiple series etc.

Favourite series are The Shield, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Better Call Saul

We’ve seen most of the well known things I can think of (Mad Men, Sons Of Anarachy, ER, Halt and Catch Fire, Handmaids Tale all watched quite recently) and we’ve seen so much over the years I think we’ve bled TV dramas dry.

We have Netflix and prime but happy to get hold of other stuff too.

What’s amazing that you’ve seen and is maybe not quite as well known? I’ve heard Justified is good, anyone seen it?

The two big series I can think of that we haven’t watched fully are The Sopranos and West Wing - is West Wing a bit dated now? We did watch the first season or so of the Sopranos when Sky Atlantic started but then we stopped having Sky so it fell off the radar.

The Americans

The best series of the past 10 years. Really fantastic. I do love the 80s and the wigs and interiors.
But soooo good.

I started to go off Grey’s when Sandra Oh left and I didn’t really like any of the new young interns. So I’ve missed it from around midway through season 11 onwards. I don’t know how f I can be arsed to catch up now.

It hasn't improved @FurryDice only got worse I called it a day two seasons ago, well past its sell by now

I think they are aiming to beat er which ran for 15 seasons and then end. I think last season was season 15 it wouldn't surprise me if they announced it in the next two years

They can't keep paying Ellen Pompeos gargantuan salary much longer than that anyway. Though I suppose it is ABC which is in turn Disney.

There’s a series from New Zealand called The Almighty Johnson’s which is brilliant, not sure how to get hold of it tho!

I've just finished Godless on Netflix, thanks to recommendations here. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would, Jack McConnell was very good. Nice mix of characters.

Another good one on Netflix is Wynonna Earp. Really funny, lots of action, great humour and characters, especially female ones. Really worth a look. I think they only have S1 at the moment but S2 should be added soon hopefully. S3 on tv at the moment.

Epic in quality if not in length (though it does span 25 years), Olive Kitteridge, miniseries of two, two hour episodes. Available on Now TV, with the incomparable Frances Mcdormand of Three Billboards fame.

We recently watched The Expanse, it's brilliant! I'm not usually into sci fi, but DH persuaded me to give it a go, and I loved it.

I don't think anyone's mentioned Wanted. It's an Aussie drama on Netflix and has been my favourite series this year. Funny and thrilling with two fabulous female characters.

Favourite series are The Shield, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Better Call Saul

These are favourites of mine too and the closest I've come to a show that offers similar pleasures is Justified:deals with social issues like The Wire; has the entertainment value/tension of The Shield and Better Call Saul; co-stars Walton Goggins from The Shield; also has the offbeat humour of Breaking Bad. So good I watched it twice from start to finish. Series two onwards particularly good. Season Two co-starred Margo Martindale, and her performance, with that of Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad, was praised as being so good it turned TV into poetry.

My suggestions would be;
Big little lies, Riviera, the Affair, Nashville and Scandal.

We're also halfway through Finding Faith on BBC iPlayer which we're loving.

Just to add with the Leftovers - season 1 is definitely the weakest IMO. It just gets better and better through seasosn 2 and 3, and more epic/gripping. I was truly satisfied by the finale too.

Just started watching The Night Of which seems good. Also liked Big Little Lies, Riviera and The Sinner.

If you have Now tv, watch The Young Pope with Jude Law. It's absolutely astounding, not what I thought it would be at all. Really surprising and exciting. I hope they're doing another series.
