at magi's request here is the first grass thread ( we will probably need more than one!).

Can't believe it time for Queen's again. Hope the weather holds out- bit gloomy in the north west.Grin

( can't link to other thread as on my phone).

See you all later- the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the likelihood it will be Mr Castle in the commentary box.Grin

I'm really sad that Bemelmans didn't manage to finish off Isner.

SadHe didn't look comfortable from the start today.

Am watching Nadal - my app just told me that Cilic lost. Wasn’t expecting that to happen.

BagelGoesWalking · 05/07/2018 15:02

Oh my Gawd! Never expected that to happen. Poor Cilic looked like he couldn't move his arm in the last few games.

Raahh · 05/07/2018 15:05

Struggling to get a connection on .y phone on the car.

And they aren't commentating on the Rafa match on 5 live.

Watching Kyrgios...... He has his towel hanging from his mouth again!!

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2018 15:12

Poor Cilic Sad

84CharingCrossRoad · 05/07/2018 15:26

Ooh Kyrgios is arguing with the referee.... I tend to agree. Of the commentator can't hear him swearing why did the line judge have to dob him in!! 😂 😂 😂

Raahh · 05/07/2018 15:27

ugh Kyrgios. Just heard on 5 live he was arguing (funny that) when foot faulted. Had to be shown what a foot fault was.

Just been checking some scores, and am glad that Tsitsipas is through.

Apparently Nick's been swearing - and thinks he's being very funny. i wish they would just kick him out.

ferrier · 05/07/2018 15:28

Oh! I wasn't expecting Cilic to lose. And do I detect that Stan is out.

I would be glued to the telly but actually there's not much interesting on at the moment. All the good matches start at 4ish Hmm

I just have to say that I love how everyone on this thread can have different views and we all can all get along and have a sense of humour about things without people taking offence at every little thing.

I am just about managing to keep a sock in it in the face of the fairly constant Federer negativity Wink

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2018 15:34

Some great shots from Kukushkin.

ferrier all you have to do is declare your love for Roger at any given opportunity and ignore any posts you don't like. It works a treat! I have a lot of respect for him and I enjoy watching him play but I'm never going to love him. Two out of three ain't bad Grin

Glad I'm missing Kgyrios. I've managed to avoid him and Djok so far.

PrivateParkin · 05/07/2018 15:37

I'm absolutely gutted about Marin. Gutted. I blame that rain break and nasty fall last night. Ok fair play to Pella blah blah. But he was a real chance for the title.

This means one of the following will be destroyed by Federer get to the semis:

Guido Pella
Mackenzie McDonald
Dennis Novak
Milos Raonic

John Isner
Radu Albot
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Thomas Fabbiano

Info courtesy of Ben Rothenburg tennis journo on Twitter. Get yourself on there Raahh, it's so fun when the Slams are on - loads of tennis insight/laughs.

bookbook · 05/07/2018 15:37

That looks an easier score line than it actually was it seems to me .

ferrier - I am a big Federer fan, right from when he first started in the seniors

PrivateParkin · 05/07/2018 15:41

ferrier I don't dislike Fed. I may be negative about him I admit. However it's not him personally, or the way he plays, which I enjoy. It's the fact he's won it 8 times, and under those circs I think it's fair to look for someone new to shake it up. Or even not that new, just different.

I'm still reeling about Cilic. Arrrggghhhh!!!

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2018 15:43

OK I'm on Tim Botox watch! I don't think he's had it because he can raise his eyebrows and wrinkle his forehead. He is looking the picture of health though.

ferrier · 05/07/2018 15:49

I do Jane, I do. But sometimes I step away from the thread for a while.

I feel the same about Rafa and the French and I do dislike his game style and what it represents but I've only expressed that viewpoint once because I know he has lots of fans.

Anyway, I think Federer is great. I totally disagree that he is arrogant or smug, I think that's a total misreading of his character and as 8 times winner, too right he is on Centre Court.

MirandaWest · 05/07/2018 15:52

I like Federer Smile

BagelGoesWalking · 05/07/2018 16:03

The trouble is, unknown players beating higher seeds like Cilic, for example, especially after a 5 set match raises the odds of either Rafa or Federer will win. Which is great, of course, they are marvellous players but it's just a bit predictable. I find the women's side of things more interesting for that reason, although now Serena's back, it may also be fairly predictable but I'm not sure she's got the match fitness to go all the way this year.

Djokovic has the trainer on in the last set to massage his thigh.

Konta's match is on now. Cibulkova could be very hard to beat.

bookbook · 05/07/2018 16:08

I find Konta's ball bounce routine surprisingly annoying - that extra little lift of the hand at the top makes me grit my teeth

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2018 16:15

Me too book. I can't take to her at all. She looks very pernickety!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/07/2018 16:16

I like Federer. In fact, I love watching him. He’s so unbelievably graceful: the English teacher in me thinks that that’s wha poetry would look like if it could move Grin I love the way he never sweats. I love his perfect family and his perfect image and his perfect money - it’s like watching a fairy tale, and such a lovely antithesis to the grubbiness of the Kardashians and Love Island and so on Grin

I don’t think he is arrogant. I think he carries himself with the assurance of someone who is incredibly, incredibly good at what he does. But if he’s beaten, he takes it well. And he is so, so gracious and respectful when he wins.

If he won, I wouldn’t mind at all. But I really love watching Rafa hustle his way through a match, all sweat and nervous tics and power, and then he gets off court and is so unassuming, and all he really wants to do is go back to Mallorca and hang out on his boat.

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2018 16:18

ferrier I think Roger would be very funny behind the scenes. I feel he keeps his sarcasm in check and says the "right things" in public.

BagelGoesWalking · 05/07/2018 16:24

That's a great post, TheOnly It's true, how does he never seem to sweat like the others?!

I guess the only thing I slightly disliked were the cardigans and gold RF but hey, ho he's the absolute master of tennis and can do whatever he damn well likes.

Fizzywinegum · 05/07/2018 16:26

Just got in and seen that Cilic has lost - really sad about that. Also saw earlier that Stan lost as well.

I’ve got in and there aren’t any good matches on at the moment - I’m not really that keen on watching women’s matches. There are definitely more women’s matches on the show courts this year which is good, just not for me.

Looking forward to Delpo/deliciano soon.

Rafa will always be might favourite but I do like Roger as well other players. I wouldn’t be bothered if you said something negative about Rafa Ferrier. Everyone should be able to express their opinion.
