at magi's request here is the first grass thread ( we will probably need more than one!).

Can't believe it time for Queen's again. Hope the weather holds out- bit gloomy in the north west.Grin

( can't link to other thread as on my phone).

See you all later- the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the likelihood it will be Mr Castle in the commentary box.Grin

Imagine working in a shop, thinking, God I’m fed up and this heat is ridiculous and - OMG it’s Rafa Nadal!

That never happens in teaching.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/07/2018 10:01

We’re younger than AC though.

I went to university with Clare Balding.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/07/2018 10:02

It actually makes me feel a bit rubbish to realise I’m younger than Annabel Croft. I do NOT look like that even on my very best days.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/07/2018 10:03

I worked in a supermarket during my last year of high school and yes, it was always exciting when someone famous came through. Though as it was in small town New Zealand the famous people were All Blacks, cricketers or netballers for the most part. I got very tongue tied when the lovely Josh Kronfeld (gorgeous All Blacks flanker who was also a primary school teacher) came through my checkout.

Raahh · 05/07/2018 10:04

One of my retail claims to fame, (that i often quote on here) is way back in 1998, when I worked in Our Price, in Manchester Airport, I sold David Beckham, batteries. And told him they were cheaper in Boots.

I served a lot of 'famous' types. Mainly Corrie actors. And people on their way to be interviewed by Richard and Judy. Grin.

Annabel Croft has a painting in her attic.
Her time will come.

(Or not- she will age even more gracefully, probably Grin).

I literally bumped into Pat Sharp in a shop back in his mullet days and when I said sorry he said that's alright love! Annabel has the type of bone structure that will always look good no matter how old she is.

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2018 10:29

Oh no Sky has gone on the blink saying there's a technical fault. It better be fixed before Wimbledon starts!

PrivateParkin · 05/07/2018 10:30

takes tea break to catch up on thread
I like your age rule TheOnly because it makes Delpo fair game for me, hurrah! (Because the age difference was the only thing holding us back previously)

Love the claims to fame chat!! Grin

Grouchy: my DH is a kiwi, I lived over there for a while. I once saw Keven Mealamu walk past my office window! Grin

magimedi · 05/07/2018 10:56

I am older than Martina - sigh!

But I still feel like an 18 year old, in my head.

DS is always telling me to act my age & not my shoe size!!

Raahh · 05/07/2018 11:00

I don't think acting my shoe size would be good. I'm a 2. Grin

I'm 19 in my head, magi. It is Dec 1990, forever. First term of university.

The fact that a lot of my university friends (who got married and had dc before me) now have dc in their 20's is something that is just wrong. Grin.

Time is a funny thing.

Just catching the end of yesterday's TAW , which showed mostly Serena, by the look of things. I keep thinking she is playing someone called Tomato. I need to clean my glasses.

OP posts:
Raahh · 05/07/2018 11:13

You know- and I'm not sure if anyone else has heard this- I think Serena might have recently had a baby??!

You'd think they might have mentioned it.

more often than every 20 seconds Hmm.

just logging in. I have just been too busy to do anything but watch Today at Wimbledon this past week.
But I have run around my allotment this morning , done my chores, and DH is going out at 12 ...
So, I can sit and watch in peace this afternoon.
magi and I are virtually the same 'proper' age, but I feel about 25 - grown up , ( as DC ) but not too grown up :)

bookbook · 05/07/2018 11:18

hmm - that should have said pre DC !

Raahh · 05/07/2018 11:18

Fredrik Rosengren , Kyle's coach, is very lovely. I do like Swedes. They age well.

Thank goodness Sky is back. Sue telling AC you may be prattling but we're not. Are you sure Sue?

kazzaD66 · 05/07/2018 11:59

Morning all!
I worked as a Saturday girl on the Boots No7 counter a couple of years ago in the early to mid 80's Confused and once had to serve Sharron Davies (the swimmer, who lived locally at the time). She was incredibly rude and up herself Angry On the other hand, I also served the lead singer of a (good) one hit wonder 80's band (Cutting Crew, I think Hmm) around the time they were in the charts and he was lovely. I think he bought a foundation, so I was helping him colour match Grin

BagelGoesWalking · 05/07/2018 12:06

The Gareth Southgate thread is good fun! My only claim to fame is that I served Kiri Te Kanawa in a small supermarket when I had a Sat job. Must've been about 15.

I always feel about 27. I had a 1 yr old, felt young but doing grown up stuff. Now, I seem to be turning into the sulky teenager (that I never was) wanting to be left alone and playing music that no-one else likes 😂

I seem to remember that Tim's parents had those kind of slim, somewhat patrician looks that age well. I wish I'd inherited my mother's skin, olive skinned and quite Mediterranean although one side was Polish/Russian a few generations back, aged well. Instead I'm prone to allergies and eczema from my Dad's more English ancestry. Boo!

Raahh · 05/07/2018 12:07

Kazza Cutting Crew! Now I've got 'Died in your arms' going through my head Grin

I hate the fact they stick to the schedule, and don't continue the matches that were suspended straight away. I want to see the Stan match, not Bouchard (never been a fan).

OP posts:
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/07/2018 12:10

I loved their one hit. Still a song I listen to.

Just watching Bouchard vs Barty and pondering the equal prize money thing. The disparity in the number of sets played makes women such a target in this sport for those who don't believe they should receive equal prize money. I must admit, I would like to see equal pay for equal work: should the men be reduced to three sets as is usual for other tournaments outside grand slams (is that right? I'm not sure) or should the women be increased to five sets?

Some of the top female players have said they would have no problem with five set matches, so it's not being driven by the players themselves.

Raahh · 05/07/2018 12:10

I must admit, Gareth Southgate may not be a looker, but he was lovely to the Columbian who missed the penalty the other night. It was such a horrible experience for him in '96.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 05/07/2018 12:24

My brother went to school with Gareth Southgate and played in the school team with him. He also played against him in a non school team and beat him in a final. Bro said GS cried then - a bit like 1996 but without the penalties apparently Grin

And now I can't get Died in your Arms out of my head either, but that's my own fault Wink

Raahh · 05/07/2018 12:30

See, now we have a thread ear worm.

And after yesterday, I have been paranoid about flying ants. I have had my ant spray out for days - by this time last year, I'd had two plagues of them. I've seen a few, but not had a swarm of them. They scare me to death.

OP posts:
bookbook · 05/07/2018 12:40

we had flying ants two years on the trot a few years ago. They came pouring out of a tiny gap in the corner of our living room window from the cavity wall. Horrible. Then we got that sorted, and next year they managed to find a gap between the skirtingboard and wall behind the fitted wardrobes in our bedroom . Yuk .
