I thought it was probably the ex (did not buy his story of her inviting him there and he did change it...........) then the Norwegian nipped in to look for the memory stick after. Only the story stopped and moved on before they clarified it. We never found out if Jo made a recovery either - she was going to tell them who did it - unless they slipped that in quietly last week.

CoolCarrie · 22/03/2018 13:55

The actor’s name is Stephen Walters and he is in Outlander as well.

FloraFox · 22/03/2018 14:10

I thought Thomas dying at the end was horribly sad especially since he died in a cell. But he was never going to have a happy ending because he had been through too much and I think if it had ended with Tosh saying "live your life" and him smiling, it would have been too twee. In the sense of Thomas's happiness, it was more realistic to show him dying in a police cell to symbolise that he couldn't have a happy ending.

Im not sure what the timescale is supposed to be but Im getting a bit fed up of Cassie not getting over her uni boyfriend. How long is she going to mope around not doing any paid work cause shes soooo sad?

Maybe she should go back to uni (she dropped out to help uni boy with his business idea in I think south america)

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/03/2018 14:40

Yes Lars beat up the artist was my interpretation. I think Cassie and Alan will feature heavily in the next series so doubt they will shop her back to uni. I'm looking forward to it already.

SpringHen · 22/03/2018 14:42

Perez wont have a place in the new family trio which'll be wierd

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2018 15:43

Perez will have a place - he'll be the man who locked up Alan's mum. I'm sure Christmas will run very smoothly in that household!

Clawdy · 22/03/2018 15:47

I don't think we'll see Alan again.

ReelingLush18 · 23/03/2018 06:57

Unless of course it's the end of the road for Shetland...???

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 23/03/2018 07:26

Are there any more books in the series?! It can’t be the end.

Just no more female murderers I hope!

ThisIsAWifeMineNow · 23/03/2018 09:21

I think it said another series will be coming, maybe next year?

ChoccyJules · 23/03/2018 09:23

I thought Thomas died in an interview room?

museumum · 23/03/2018 09:26

This series and the last we’re not based in books. The books ran out before that.

Arkengarthdale · 23/03/2018 09:29

Yes it was an interview room with an unlocked door and a cup of tea. Andy sympathy from Tosh. So, bleak bit not as bleak as perhaps it could be.

They never seem to meet characters again except for the polis. I still want Tosh to find a friend in Mr Beardy from last series Grin

Arkengarthdale · 23/03/2018 09:30

Scuse typos...

And the scenes between Jimmy and Duncan were so charged. I'm going to watch it again.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 23/03/2018 10:50

I read this headline and thought nooooooooo you cannot kill off Perez!

http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2017/02/10/author-cleeves-considers-killing-off-shetland-detective-jimmy-perez

But reading the article it's not as clear cut. Even so Shock

SpringHen · 23/03/2018 10:56

I hope they stop messing with the core characters.

The whole point of the duncan/cassie/perez side plot was that perez is like chicken licken cause of the shit he sees at work, and duncan is there to remind him that cassie will be fine, most peoples lives arent like the stuff Perez sees at work.

It'll ruin it for me if that changes too much

ArcheryAnnie · 23/03/2018 11:52

It was stretching it a bit to have Kate fancying Thomas, he was really unattractive and odd-looking. Unless under that beard, he was gorgeous!

I don't think it was so much sexual attraction, Clawdy as unbearably overcharged intense emotions, guilt, comfort. Also, of course, they would have known each other before he went to prison, when presumably he was a bit prettier. (But yes, I was longing to see him chop off that awful beard. As one character said, the Charles Manson look does nothing to convince your neighbours that you aren't really the murderer they already think you are.)

SpringHen · 23/03/2018 12:02

I agree it wasnt so much that she fancied him, rather that sleeping with him was due to all the build up of tension and stress and guilt and loss and grief and sex was an outlet..

Kikashi · 24/03/2018 07:36

I loved the series but I did find it a bit frustrating that the deaf lady's story wasn't quite resolved. I get a bit tired of murder plots where people claim they couldn't leave their spouse and so had to commit murder. Drew and Donna could have run off together - he could have got a transfer. Divorce, womens refuges etc did exist in the 90's.

What a pair Donna and Drew were.

Yorkshirebetty · 24/03/2018 08:45

I never liked Drew and thought he looked like a young Fr Jack. I'm not sure why they cast an Irishman in the role. I thought it was a sad ending for Thomas Malone, but quite realistic. Rather that than take out innocent people with his shotgun.

SpringHen · 24/03/2018 09:59

I liked that they didnt tie everything up. Realistic. In real policing you would never hear half the endings

The books focus a lot of the diversity in Shetland (mostly oil and tourism industry workers but other blow-ins too, artist and eccentrics and people trying to escape ordinary life) and how that works (and sometimes doesnt) with the native people and culture.

That could explain why Drew couldnt "save" Donna despite being in an apparent position of power as he was an "outsider" and ranks could close IYKWIM

Yorkshirebetty · 24/03/2018 13:39

I enjoyed the books, Springhen, no reason why the crooked detective shouldn't be Irish of course, but an interesting choice.

SpringHen · 24/03/2018 13:42

I think the choice made him a distinct outsider, so even as a DI he couldnt "interfere" in some things, like Donnas husband?? So maybe deliberately not a shetlander for that reason?

eloisesparkle · 24/03/2018 14:45

As so often happens on British tv the baddy was an IrishmanSad
