@Encyclo - I was wondering about it being the twin sister too.

I don't see how it could be Duncan - it would be such a departure from the books - they have made some pretty radical changes (like making Cassie a teenager, and removing Cassie's mum from the plot altogether - in the books, she is murdered on Fair Isle), but I think that making Duncan a murderer would be too far even for them.

I was a bit smug when Lars turned out to be a baddie - I had a feeling all along that he was a bit too good to be true.

Clawdy · 14/03/2018 13:28

Could the twist be that the twins swapped places that night, were they identical twins? Oh, that's all a bit too complicated.........

SpringHen · 14/03/2018 14:18

Nice to sew Perez FINALLY refer to his mixed heritage. Its a core theme in the book.

SpringHen · 14/03/2018 14:18

see

Kikashi · 14/03/2018 15:02

I was frustrated that Perez didn't ask the twin more about the night on the beach (in the old film). She started talking about the complex relationship with her sister and her legacy in the aftermath of the murder but Perez didn't directly ask if the twin had copped off with someone and who.

Was the deaf woman's ex telling the truth then about him not being abusive?

I thought Lars slipping up with the roadworks comment wasn't so believable as he is a a detective. Had he just got too cocky?

The murdered twin could have taken the scarf from Duncan on the beach when they were flirting. There could be an innocent explanation. If Cassie is Alan's half sibling I would have thought that Duncan would have been intervening sooner.

Looking forward to next week

Most far right types are mysogynists.
He probably didnt see Tosh as clever abd thought she would be blinded by his flattery

StickStickStickStick · 14/03/2018 20:40

I don't think it's Duncan- but I think he probably fathered half of Shetland hence not wanting cassie to date Alan.

I don't think we know the whole story with either twin sister or jo or Alan's mum.

I will be really disappointed if they "twist that Malone did do it :(

DonkeyOil · 15/03/2018 00:01

If Cassie is Alan's half sibling I would have thought that Duncan would have been intervening sooner.

But Perez is Cassie's real Dad, isn't he, not Duncan? He's her stepfather, so Alan and Cassie wouldn't be related, even if Duncan is his father.

SpringHen · 15/03/2018 00:05

Nope Perez is step dad
Duncan is bio dad
Perez is "main" dad cauae he raised her and duncan wasnt always as involved.

DonkeyOil · 15/03/2018 00:20

Ah, that explains a lot. Thanks Smile

ArcheryAnnie · 15/03/2018 10:49

I watched ep 5 last night. OMG! I struggle to imagine that they'd have Duncan as the murderer, but they've clearly set it up so Perez thinks Duncan must be the murderer.

(Though the scarf is circumstantial, surely? It was Duncan's, but it's easy to see from the old film that he might have given it to Lizzie.)

KillashandraRee · 15/03/2018 18:27

I'm off sick and have just discovered Shetland! Watched the whole of the series so far and I love it.

Does anyone think it might be Alan's Mum who killed Lizzie if she was having an affair with his Dad? Maybe she faked the violence or they had a weird relationship? She may then have killed Sally as she didn't want her getting too close to Alan.... which means Cassie could be in danger from her in the finale?!!! While everyone else is looking at Duncan?
I've totally nailed it Wink

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 15/03/2018 19:27

Ooh that's a possibility! I honestly have no ideasBlush

Canadalife · 15/03/2018 19:56

Yes yes yes to Donna being the killer...my DH is sure that Donna did it to them!! It makes sense as a theory. We sat up for ages considering all the variations....

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/03/2018 21:41

I did not see it coming that Lars was bad AT ALL.

I am ashamed of myself.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/03/2018 21:42

I think I so desperately wanted Tosh to find someone lovely to help her regain her trust in men...and he turned out to be evil.

Arkengarthdale · 16/03/2018 00:23

What happened to kind beardy who wanted to take Tosh out for a cup of coffee and a digestive biscuit? Where she found solace after her ordeal? I sort of hoped they became firm friends...

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/03/2018 06:52

Oh yes - I thought the moment where she went to his house to scream at him for drawing a picture of her and then just ended up sleeping in his chair through sheer exhaustion was so well done. And then they bonded over their traumatic pasts.

I would like to think that that friendship is continuing and they still share a beer every now and then in companionable silence.

Notonthestairs · 16/03/2018 10:33

I'm liking the Donna theory (that is Alan's mum isnt it?!)

And A BIg Fat Yes to Tosh deserving someone lovely.

Melamin · 16/03/2018 13:02

I like the Donna theory too Wink

thelionthewitchandthebookcase · 16/03/2018 19:14

Maybe Sally and Alan are somehow related an that's why she e see up dead? I think it's definitely the twin sister. When she said to Thomas I'll kill you. He said what ? You kill ME? She def did it I'm sure of it!!!

Perez is just HaloSmile

Inkanta · 16/03/2018 20:11

'Perez is just Halo Smile]

Yes absolutely adorable! I love him Smile

StickStickStickStick · 16/03/2018 20:11

Twin sister did look genuinely terrified of Malone though didn't she when she rushed to the car and drove off. Unless it's because she thought he knew.

thelionthewitchandthebookcase · 16/03/2018 20:22

Yes stick! I think she was terrified as she knew she had been found out!

Yorkshirebetty · 17/03/2018 09:39

I'm also feeling smug because I didn't trust Lars from the start. I was thinking the twin sister or Alan's mum as murderer. I don't know about Duncan, he's anxious about something. Maybe he thinks he's Alan's dad? Is Sally's murder to do with Lizzie or the Far Right?
