I'm wondering who Alan's real father is. Very mysterious.

Notonthestairs · 20/02/2018 22:34

Slightly concerned about Tosh and her trip now. Wasn't it at the airport in the last series that she was drugged and kidnapped?
I've got a feeling Jimmy will regret leaving her to go alone.
Although I might be reading too much in to things - it wouldn't be the first time Grin

SpringHen · 21/02/2018 03:20

Sandys character is brilliant because hes low level incompetent. We've all worked with a Sandy but theyre NEVER usually depicted on scene. Usually screen incompetence is exaggerated or comical.

He looks all proud like he wants a sticker or a lillipop off Perez every time he actually does his job properly for once

He's the one that you never wanna take over the second half of a split shift from, he'll have done some work, but the files will be messy and he'll have missed stuff.

SpringHen · 21/02/2018 03:23

I'm wondering who Alan's real father is.

The only other people old enough that we've been introduced to are the copper who still works at the station (surely not. Hes good!), the retired detective and the informant.

I think? I dont think anyone else is in the running so far?

Yorkshirebetty · 21/02/2018 07:15

The released man himself? Malone?

JeremiahBackflip · 21/02/2018 08:57

Alan's mum is with the old.copper.isnt she? So there's a good chance he's the dad.

He killed and pinned it on Malone. She killed his daughter because the daughter and Alan were half siblings...

Solved

Deliver Jimmy Perez to my room.

JeremiahBackflip · 21/02/2018 09:01

Old copper I mean the retired detective Irish man.

Also: not sure if setting about Benny with a hammer is going to help Malone any. Unless he just wants to go back to prison as he cannot cope with life outside? 23 yrs inside is a lot to overcome, returning to an island community where nobody trusts or likes you is even worse.

Clawdy · 21/02/2018 09:49

But they said at the end they had checked the retired copper's DNA and it wasn't him.

Notonthestairs · 21/02/2018 09:51

I thought they said that they had looked at retired policeman's DNA already - or did they say they needed to check it? My doorbell went right at the end of the episode so I might have misheard.
Are we meant to assume Malone's naked sketches are of the original dead girl or could they be of another woman?

Notonthestairs · 21/02/2018 09:51

X post!

Yorkshirebetty · 21/02/2018 10:52

Or are the sketches of the twin sister, who seems to care for him? Why is she so supportive and helpful, if there's any chance he's the sister's murderer?

BevBrook · 21/02/2018 11:01

The actor who plays Sandy also played a baddie in Being Human. I can't help but see him as supremely sinister.

ReelingLush18 · 21/02/2018 11:16

All police personnel's DNA is on a database so 'Drew's' would have been on there (unless it's not his DNA sample they've got under his name?).

Why did Malone drop the iPhone in such a shocked manner when he saw the picture?

Clawdy · 21/02/2018 11:38

Yes, I wondered why he dropped the phone in shock. He was supposed to have really loved the dead sister,so was it seeing her face again? And I also wondered why the other sister is so supportive. Has she got something planned, and it's all a cover? Or does she definitely know he is not the killer?

SpringHen · 21/02/2018 11:57

It cant be Malone thats the dad: too young I think

Its not the retired cop

The informant/dealer/thug maybe??

ReelingLush18 · 21/02/2018 12:12

Do we think the two murders (past and present) are connected in some way? Assume that 'Drew' is the link in more ways than one?

ReelingLush18 · 21/02/2018 12:12

The obvious one being that he was the cop in charge (for past one) and father of present day murder victim?

SpringHen · 21/02/2018 12:39

Blokeys mum said her marraige was shit, but thats still gotta be better than having a thug with police immunity's baby, so maybe thats why she raised the baby with her husband?

Notonthestairs · 21/02/2018 12:50

Im going to take an early guess at whodunit - I think the surviving twin killed her twin (jealousy?) and the retired policeman's daughter was killed because of her investigations in to safety on the oil rig. Unconnected but copy cat murder. Tosh has a breakdown and leaves Shetland and Cassie's boyfriend turns up and begs her to go back with him.
Job done. Grin.

LaundryMountain · 21/02/2018 12:52

I fancy Perez. Love Shetland but it’s not a patch on Hinterland, or even better Y Gwyll

SpringHen · 21/02/2018 12:53

I wanted to love hinterland but..

MichaelBendfaster · 21/02/2018 13:09

I do love Hinterland. I think it's beautiful. It all seems so carefully designed. The sound design is excellent too.

Helipad · 21/02/2018 13:27

I love Shetland (the series) and would really love to visit but DH isn't keen at all. I love the bleak landscape, windswept rocks and remote crofts. I'm from a nordic country so maybe it's something to do with it.

I was never into Dougie Henshall, he used to have a long hair, didn't' he?Long hair just doesn't do it for me. But now, ye gods he is aging rather well Blush

MichaelBendfaster · 21/02/2018 14:13

Shetland (the place) is utterly beautiful if you're into bleak landscapes, Helipad, which I am. I think you and I are holiday soulmates. Grin

A sunny summer day in Shetland is the most glorious thing.

ReelingLush18 · 21/02/2018 14:56

Yes, I'm in the loving Perez camp (and DH - DD and I decided he's a bit of a less polished version of James Norton).

Funnily enough I've been having the same conversation with DH (about visiting Shetland). He is keen! Think we'll wait until the DC have gone off to university though, as they aren't!

You could be on to something there about the twin Notonthestairs. It's very strange that she's so convinced that Malone is innocent and is being so kind to him. Why would she unless it's because she knows who the murderer is and is feeling very guilty?
