This looks good - A new 4 part murder mystery thriller with an interesting cast, Nicola Walker, Carrey Mulligan, Billie Piper and Jon Simm. Is anybody planning to watch?

YY to Sandrine being used.

Loved the arguments between John Simm and Billie Piper.

Elendon · 28/02/2018 08:58

Hi all, great thread.

I'm loving Carey Mulligan's character, she plays it so well. I don't think she looks middle aged at all!

I also liked the argument scene in the flat between Simms and Piper - very realistic.

I think it's totally feasible that the MI5 guy is in on it, especially after the sex scandal in Haiti. Trafficking/slavery is a huge problem and very lucrative.

There is something of the automaton regarding the sniper/soldier woman. Clearly she is suffering from PTSD and having a rapist and creep as a boss is not helping. Cosy family man and creepy rapist - gives me the chills thinking about it.

A mention has to go to the opening songs. Brilliant!

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 01/03/2018 09:50

Also think CM is great, and beautiful, in this.

CoughArghCoughArghCough · 01/03/2018 10:47

@FawnDrench I couldn't work out much of the phone video either Blush It showed (very briefly in the background) Berna and Mehmet taking money/organising the refugees, but it was really unclear what happened on the boat. Sounds like someone got shot and thrown overboard, or someone got thrown overboard and someone else shot - maybe they were trying to overthrow the smugglers? Hopefully they'll tie it up next week, as I can't figure it out!

AllisLost · 01/03/2018 12:57

I thought that the Iraqui woman had said that the boat was overloaded and the captain had started throwing people overboard in order to lighten the load. (Looked like the pregnant woman was one of those being offloaded). The brother had tackled him and then shot him. They'd brought the boat in without the captain and gone on the run.

(But I may have got this wrong)

AlishaMary · 01/03/2018 13:04

That’s what she said but I wasn’t sure if that was the truth and the video was too confusing to deduce anything really. But it seems to fit.

CoughArghCoughArghCough · 01/03/2018 13:12

Oh that would make a lot of sense, thank you @AllisLost

wowfudge · 01/03/2018 13:45

I think Sandrine is going to kill herself in your man's back garden rather than shoot him or his family. Her mother rejecting her being the final straw.

Mrsmadevans · 01/03/2018 15:50

I hope she kills the bastard first

FawnDrench · 01/03/2018 16:15

Thank you Cough - yes no doubt it will all be miraculously cleared up in next week's (hopefully exciting and not too far-fetched) finale as you say.

It will be interesting to see what happens to and with Sandrine.
I hope her bastard senior officer gets his deserved comeuppance, but it looks a bit too obvious that she will shoot him.
Then again she's poised on a knife edge isn't she.

Re her wearing the uniform all the time - I think she does this as being in the Army is the only identity she has and it's about all that's left in her life to provide her with a wee bit of reassurance- her cold-hearted and distant mother is certainly no help or support.

I'm looking forward to Monday.

Sorry off topic, but....Kip was a famous athlete, AND a teacher, and is now a DI???

How old is she meant to be? She's had 3 careers that have each required a lot of training.

Elendon · 02/03/2018 07:24

Kip was a pole jumper who had an accident so probably had her athletic career cut short. I dare say she is degree educated so can join the police via graduate entry. There has been criticism about her 'kind' in the police force along the lines of 'bleeding hearts'.

Honourthepromise · 03/03/2018 01:03

Mind if I join you? Thank you for the explanation of the boat footage allis I was so busy being appalled by the ruthlessness of the boat runners taking as many people (£££’s) as poss and then just dispensing of them when they felt like it. I thought the screams and the filming by phone were heart-breakingly realistic.
It really pulled me up actually, about the horror of what is going on.

I’m liking the Kip character .. her colleague being pissed off with her about interviewing murder victims sister alone seems really pointed. Is anything going to come if that, do we think? I mean, is he in with MI5 corrupt guy and is trying to prevent Kip uncovering by donning her in for not following ‘procedure’?

Honourthepromise · 03/03/2018 01:06

Dobbing her in it, meant to say.

I think BP character is so used to death she doesn’t have any scruples about being paid to tip off shooter ... the coins were Judas’ silver ?

Honourthepromise · 03/03/2018 01:09

I also agree with pp who is glad to see such strong female characters.

Slartybartfast · 03/03/2018 10:52

I think Kip's colleague is a wooden actor, not convincing. he says the words but with no emotion

Clawdy · 03/03/2018 17:46

I wish they had given the Kip role to Nicola Walker, but perhaps she's getting tired of playing detectives! I really like her, but I don't think the minister's role suits her.

AllisLost · 04/03/2018 00:09

I may have got it wrong - and also it may be that the goodies turn out to be baddies and vice versa. Who knows with some of these dramas?

There is a complex plot but I'm not sure what the point is. See how it plays out on Monday.

Last episode tonight!

brownelephant · 05/03/2018 21:35

I admire kip.
I am envious of her expressive eyebrows

Honourthepromise · 05/03/2018 21:47

Where is everyone??

I used live pause so am watching about 20 minutes late ... i knew it Kip’s colleague is corrupt

runningoutofjuice · 05/03/2018 22:05

Oh dear. Another series ends and I have no idea what's happened and the outcome of the characters. Shock

viques · 05/03/2018 22:05

Poor poor Sandrine, she was so very alone wasn't she. and then that last little piece of hope she had that it was something done for the greater good was taken from her.

very satisfying all round.

Who was the blond woman sims character went off with at the end? I can't recall seeing her before.

I noticed in the credits that Elfie was a Sim too, wonder if she was his RL daughter?

Charley50 · 05/03/2018 22:13

Very sad for Sandrine. Her face showed so much turmoil. CM made a bit of a boo boo there didn't she!!
