This looks good - A new 4 part murder mystery thriller with an interesting cast, Nicola Walker, Carrey Mulligan, Billie Piper and Jon Simm. Is anybody planning to watch?

I was surprised the police let Mikey go in with his helmet visor down and that Sandrine didn't have her phone locked.

Charley50 · 19/02/2018 22:21

I thought it was pretty shit tonight. The dialogue is so stilted. Love the vicarage though.

Mrsmadevans · 19/02/2018 23:02

I love it , think the acting is great tbh.

Choccywoccyhooha · 20/02/2018 01:26

I think the acting style maybe due to David Hare's writing style being more suited to stage. I love Billie, but she is definitely stage acting and not TV, as is Carey Mulligan to an extent. As opposed to Nicola Walker who is all natural TV nuance. Hayley Squires is brilliant.

Battleax · 20/02/2018 01:39

Checking in.

WhirlwindHugs · 20/02/2018 07:28

Yeah, I wondered if there was a stage thing going on, can imagine it's a deliberate choice because the script is very playish. The scene where the soldier ran off with her phone felt like it was written for theatre particularly.

TieDyedBumhole · 20/02/2018 07:55

I really enjoyed it. The acting style never occurred to me. I love it when I’ve got no idea what’s going on but can follow the individual threads. Although if I can remember all the pieces when it’s finally put together is another matter Blush

Ihatebuildabear · 20/02/2018 08:06

I lost interest tonight wheras last week I was gripped.

Mrsmadevans · 20/02/2018 08:49

See, we weren't that fussed last week and thought 'no , we will keep going because we love John Sims' The Master and this week we were absolutely gripped.
You know it is great TV, when you look at the clock and you are surprised at the time because you have been so involved.
I thought the acting was excellent , the rape scene last night was just how you could imagine a woman so psychologically damaged would react because she was a nothing, unimportant, no fight, nothing matters because you are so damaged . The only thing that mattered to her was that she 'got the right one'. I was so willing her to kill the bastard I can tell you lol!

SlackPanther · 20/02/2018 09:05

So BP didn’t pay for the pizza by card, or by cash. She just gave a tip: they took care to show us the couple of coins in his dead hand.

“Tell me I got the right one”. Is ‘Abdul’ actually Afghani and she is taking revenge for the death of her friend? Is the man who answers the phone (the travel agent) the English people trafficker?

ToffeeUp · 20/02/2018 09:18

Abdullah and his sisters are Iraqi but yes revenge could be a motive.

I also thought this episode was gripping and better than last week.

FawnDrench · 20/02/2018 09:48

John Simm's glasses are all wrong tho.

Loads of scenes with doors, people speaking at the door, people framed in doorways having conversations, "forcing" entry or standing outside a door, not crossing the threshold, knocking on doors, spying through doors, "detention centre" doors, train doors, car doors.

Pizza is nearly always delivered to doors.

Obviously a metaphor for entry - illegal or otherwise,
I'm overthinking this aren't I?

CM opens a door into the incident room and either announces something important or receives some info nearly every time there's a plot development.

Either that or she's running up and down stairs saying significant things.

Loving it tho.

SlackPanther · 20/02/2018 11:55

No FawnDrench - I don't think you are overthinking it - it is the way the film tells the story.

How does the MI5 guy know for sure Abdullah and sisters are Iraqi? Or was it a good guess , knowing they are not Syrian?

And if they were pretending to be Syrian, why didn't they just say they were Syrian when they arrived and claim asylum? Must be some reason!

ToffeeUp · 20/02/2018 12:27

Probably an educated guess but the women didn't deny it.

They probably didn't claim asylum as Syrians because they knew they would be caught out easily.

I was pleased to note that the au pair had picked up on the negative comments on here re BP smoking with a baby and a seven year old in the house!!!!! Yay to the power of MN.

I am having serious house envy re what I am assuming is a vicarage, I thought it looked good last week in the quick glimpses we had but this week we saw the kitchen. I thought the C of E had sold off all its desireable vicarages years ago, but clearly not.

Memo to self, you would get more out of these things if you concentrated on the main drama and did not get distracted by periferals.

SlackPanther · 20/02/2018 14:28

Well, it is true: I didn't think vicars were that well off. I know the vicarage will be provided by the church, but a single vicar with a non-earning partner.... very swish furnishings.

Would it not have been recorded months ago?

Fionne · 21/02/2018 02:43

Does anyone have any idea where this story is going? I enjoyed it last week but this week I watched it whilst playing words with friends as well.

TieDyedBumhole · 21/02/2018 02:48

No idea at all but am loving it.

Battleax · 21/02/2018 02:59

Last summer. She was joking Wink

Fionne · 21/02/2018 04:44

Last summer. She was joking wink

You know, half my brain was telling me don’t be daft, you can’t sleep, it’s the middle of the night. Then the other half told me of course she meant it. 😂

Battleax · 21/02/2018 06:48
Grin
Slartybartfast · 21/02/2018 07:10

just started watchign this last night.
should be good,

viques · 21/02/2018 11:25

fionne sorry! I am having funny sleep patterns too ATM, keep watching fit healthy athletic people throw themselves off cold mountains risking injury and ridicule.

Flowers if they were lavender they would help us all to sleep.

PetiteMarseillaise · 21/02/2018 11:34

The rape scene made me rage - the horrific abuse of power, the woman doing "nothing" as PP described. I could barely watch it, but I guess that's half the point.

Has Carey's baby bump disappeared this week??? Or just a bigger jumper?

Otherwise really liking the whole thing. Is it a four or six parter? We're hooked.
