This looks good - A new 4 part murder mystery thriller with an interesting cast, Nicola Walker, Carrey Mulligan, Billie Piper and Jon Simm. Is anybody planning to watch?

Was she expecting a “special” topping on the pizza, as in drugs? Surely nobody would toss a pizza for lack of mushrooms? Also, why was the 7 year old up so late on a Monday night? And every Monday night by the regular pizza ordering.

sothatdidntwork · 13/02/2018 14:17

BP explained the 7 year old is 'on her own clock' so that explains the 9.30 pm pizza!
You wouldn't pay for a special topping by card over the phone would you?! Maybe you would, I'm making assumptions here! The fact that she didn't pay cash seems to be relevant though as it was mentioned twice.

southeastdweller · 13/02/2018 14:26

I didn’t find Billie and John Simm in the slightest bit believable as an ex couple. Not sure if it’s the actors lack of chemistry or whether it’s because I can’t see a Labour MP going for a Sloaney type like her character.

Polarbearflavour · 13/02/2018 14:41

Didn’t Billie Piper’s character say she grew up in the Middle East?

sothatdidntwork · 13/02/2018 14:46

She said she grew up in Beirut.

Yes it was odd that ex-h left Elphie to meet the vicar without making sure she got to school ok.

Interesting au pair-employer relationship!

wowfudge · 13/02/2018 15:41

Ah - so the pizza delivery guy who got shot was the wrong one then? Should have been one who was a dealer?

sothatdidntwork · 13/02/2018 15:45

Ooh maybe that's it wowfudge. But then why did the manager insist that Abdullah did the delivery - maybe it was just that she did feel sorry for him after all?

On the other hand there was a hint that the manager was being followed by a car at the end, so I'd assumed the new (!) owner instructed her to send him on that delivery. Check the phone records for that evening, I'd suggest.

cheesydoesit · 13/02/2018 16:59

She took a call before she swapped the delivery drivers. I am watching it again minus a tetchy baby and Kip's boss makes a comment about her pregnancy when they are talking in his office. Yeah, I wondered if BP being raised in Beruit is relevant. Also if the fact she doesn't have access to much cash? Maybe family have restricted access due to her drug addiction? She was clearly expecting a bag of powder on top of her pizza.

sothatdidntwork · 13/02/2018 17:04

That's very observant about the call cheesy! So yes, maybe Mikey does the usual delivery to BP and adds the 'special' topping. But how does BP pay for it?
Perhaps BP owes the money and that's what mikey hadn't got for the bouncers?

wowfudge · 13/02/2018 17:08

I wasn't giving it my full attention tbh - I thought Billie Piper's character was vile. I imagine Jon Simm's character had tried to help her and it had all gone wrong.

cheesydoesit · 13/02/2018 17:08

Massive reach but what if the shooter is BP's sister? She had two photos of uniformed men next to her bed back at the barracks, maybe BP comes from a military family and that is why she was raised in Beirut?

OneInAMillionYou · 13/02/2018 21:56

Enjoyed this, but cannot stand Billie Piper as an actor. Everything is so arch and mannered, particularly the 'acting with cigarette' 😀

Apart from her, I like the casting and am interested to see how the story develops.

CeciliaMiddleton · 14/02/2018 09:41

Thought this was better than Trauma. Irritating that the BBC and ITV decided to run both at the same time!

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 14/02/2018 09:46

So glad I found this thread. I totally missed the fact that Billie Piper’s character was from Beirut and that the woman working in the Pizza shop took a call just before swapping drivers. Think I need to watch it again on iplayer too! Smile

wowfudge · 14/02/2018 11:52

Actually I think it more likely that the woman running the pizza place was told not to send someone out, rather than told to send someone specific out. Maybe I'm overthinking things though.

cheesydoesit · 14/02/2018 12:29

Hmm, no that's a good point. I like a good speculation thread where we all play detective!

sothatdidntwork · 14/02/2018 12:31

You mean 'don't send Mikey' rather than 'do send Abdullah'? Hmm, interesting - though then again why did anyone have to be shot if not a specific person?!

LouiseBrooks · 14/02/2018 12:37

She said she grew up in Beirut

I thought she was just being sarcastic.

cheesydoesit · 14/02/2018 12:56

I thought so too at first but then it didn't seem to be followed up as sarcasm by the detective. If she was then I'm sure it will be used as a plot point else it's a bit random. Is this on weekly? I want to binge against my better judgement.

CoolCarrie · 14/02/2018 15:17

Is Nicola Walker’s character related to John Simm’s character? Or are they friends? I notice the vicar’s partner has a drug problem as well as Billie Piper. It reminds me of the ice cream van drug dealers in Glasgow in the 1980s when 6 people were tragically murdered in a house fire, because they wouldn’t allow their van to be used for selling drugs or stolen goods.

mydogmymate · 14/02/2018 15:22

I thought it was ok, probobly a slow burner. But Carey mulligan is awful, as a pp said, she was very flat in her delivery and I found her character so far was pretty boring. I hope it'll get better.

sothatdidntwork · 14/02/2018 15:43

I think it was suggested that Nicola Walker and John Simm had had a brief fling in the past wasn't it?

I didn't pick up sarcasm from BP saying she grew up in Beirut, but now you mention it she could have been being sarcastic! Either that or it will be relevant to the plot.

museumum · 14/02/2018 15:48

Where did the pizza manager say the owner lived? It was somewhere I didn’t know I think??

cheesydoesit · 14/02/2018 16:03

Boca Raton in Florida.
