I lasted about ten minutes, couldn't hack it

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/02/2018 17:40

They did say scenes would be disturbing. They were in s1

Yes but I wasn't expecting them to be this disturbing on episode 1. Seeing as they usually up the ante as the series goes on I assume it's only going to get more violent and disturbing which is a shame because it gets to the point where it distracts from the story. I don't think I can handle watching children being hurt, even if it is only acting.

CatherineCawood · 20/02/2018 17:47

I fell asleep at about 9.35.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/02/2018 19:43

i agree horrible seeing kids hurt even acting/pretend :(

as usual i got confused

the bloke at the end who said the boy was too tall/old etc, with scars on his back-was he the policeman who let his self into her flat,or the bloke who yelled at his lawyer wanting 0hr contracts once hit certian age

He was the paedophile that they interviewed at the open air cafe. I think.....

AtSea1979 · 20/02/2018 20:50

Watched 10 mins of it. Couldn’t take the gruesomeness especially as children involved. Deleted and won’t be watching the rest.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/02/2018 22:11

Oh the one who stopped her outside police station

Too Many dark haired handsome men

Glad to find this as just watched S2 E1 last night.

It's quite a difficult watch, and a few too many characters!

Glad I watched it alone as my DH can't stand anything with rape/violence to children/paedophiles in so it's totally not his kind of show, and I have to say it's pretty close to being over the line IMHO.

I'll see what next week brings, but I'm not keen on such shock tactics being used just to make it a more compelling "whodunit"

Also, are we to infer that her son killed the mouse? And it's going to go down a road of him being violent etc?

And I'm thinking the older paedo guy could maybe be the boy who was sick (what show is his mum from, recognise her!) father.

sheldonesque · 22/02/2018 01:59

mrs

The mum was in EastEnders - Natalie Evans.

She was in the Bill for a bit too.

I hope he didn't malkie the mouse...

Dailystuck71 · 26/02/2018 21:27

I’m out. This is,too much for me this season.

Trialsmum · 26/02/2018 21:39

Dh is watching it, I’m trying not to. It’s a step too far in my opinion, in lots of different ways.

Crispbutty · 26/02/2018 21:42

We are watching but to be honest I’m struggling with it for a few reasons.

Too gory and quite disturbing
Too many characters and storylines
I really dislike Anna Friel

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2018 14:45

im still enjoying, tho that sounds wrong as its about children :(

anyone else still watching

OP posts:
FawnDrench · 27/02/2018 18:33

I'm still here - despite that awful scene with the mouse.
Horrific.

Can't work out Mr Angry and why he took the gun tho.
While carrying the baby - why would you do that?

Well I can't work out a bloody thing frankly!

But I'm still watching it...

juneau · 28/02/2018 10:29

I found season 1 really compulsive, but the thing that really annoys me about Marcella is that she has a personal link to the cases and surely IRL she'd immediately be removed from the investigations?? In season 1 her ex-DH's lover was murdered and she was seen on CCTV outside the property on the night, plus her ex was implicated in the death of that other guy, and in this one her DS was friends with the first murdered boy. I just don't understand the necessity for the plot to be written this way, when it makes an already rather ridiculous storyline utterly ludicrous.

futuristic1 · 28/02/2018 10:59

Does anybody know, if in 'real life', Anna Friel actually walks as though she's just had a squelchy poo in a public lavatory only to discover afterwards that there wasn't any loo paper and is now troubled by the sensation of 'moist' bottom cheeks that can only be eased by attempting to keep them apart...

Or, does she just walk like that to add depth to Marcella's character?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/02/2018 11:26

I watched but it's turning into an endurance test now, I have to be doing something else calming when it's on, like a nice cross stitch! Storyline has been pretty much abandoned in favour of moody shots, people being unnecessarily nasty to each other and Marcella smashing stuff up. Honestly it would have been more surprising if she hadn't smashed up the cot! Marcellas family are a bunch of arseholes though, I don't blame her for being a bit wonky. She should go NC. I think her boss was in Eastenders years ago too.

futurist loved your posts on Celebrity BB thread!

juneau · 28/02/2018 13:57

I have a bit of a crush on her boss ...

Crispbutty · 28/02/2018 18:21

Yes by the looks of it...@futuristic1

futuristic1 · 28/02/2018 19:19

@Crispbutty - she'll be needing Marcella's big coat in this weather!

Actually, haven't Marcella and Kip Glaspie (Carey Mulligan in Collateral) have both got a big coat thing going on - perhaps it's de rigeur for the modern senior policewoman?

@ SinisterBumFacedCat Blush

Crispbutty · 28/02/2018 19:36

She definitely has a problem putting her legs together Grin and will be even colder here..

sheldonesque · 28/02/2018 23:42

I'm out. Marcella can take her amnesia and shove it up her big coat.

The mouse bit was completely cruel and unnecessary. The story line was bad enough without that.

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 01/03/2018 00:07

I'm still a bit hooked (although the gory stuff is nasty and unnecessary) but I'm finding her accent really irritating! No idea where she's supposed to be from, but her vowels are all over the shop!

futuristic1 · 01/03/2018 08:07

I'm definitely still hooked. Perhaps I just want to see how far she can push it before someone hits her back - that'll give her something to be properly cross about.

It's strange having the 'mad genius' character in a cop show. All the others are plodders apart from Marcella - the nutcase touched by God - it's a cliche, but hey, when did that ever stop us watching?
