Is anyone rewatching Friends on Netflix?

I was a big fan back in the day and thought Ross and Rachel were so romantic but upon rewatching, he's really unpleasant isn't he? Controlling, manipulative, gaslighting - I bet she lived to regret not taking the job in Paris!

And Joey is meant to be a big stud but he's just a bit of a sex pest and extremely stupid!

And yes I know it's "just a tv show" but it's funny how I'm noticing these things now and didn't when I first watched it.

CrapBag was my favourite moment!

I used to dislike Ross but ws're rewatching it all on DVD and I actually like him now. I think people over think it far too much. It's just a tv show. Ross' wife had an affair and came out as a lesbian after they were married for years, it's understandable it made him insecure, although he did push Rachel away.

I think Pheobe can be pretty annoying actually. A bit try too hard at times, although brilliant in others. Joey got too thick. The French thing was utterly ridiculous, as was the engagement photo and the shark porn. I loved Mike! Although I liked David too.

I don't have any non white friends and live in a City. There are only about 3/4 black children in DCs school. I also don't have any gay friends. Should I patronise people by trying to become friends because of their skin colour or sexuality (I don't actually know anyone who is gay though).

I think Ross was pulled up on his behaviour all the time and often the butt of the joke! Rachel fought back loads to him.. remember her saying "you're whiney, insecure, you always have to be right and oh.. you wear too much of that gel in your hair!" He was often taken the mickey out of by all of them, including Rachel about him being "a geek" and boring, always having to be right, whining.

Remember the episode with Russ? They all took the mickey out of the way Ross talked and used language to express his thoughts.

Also Monica saying "well then somebody's snoozing " about Ross doing a lecture at the university. And her telling him she hated him as a kid?

Ross was a bore, whiney, geeky, possessive, know it all etc but they all knew it and regularly pulled him up on behaviours and told him he was being an ass or being a bore.

His character wasn't just horrible and everyone tiptoed around it!

So trueBack

My problem with Ross is I used to like him, think he'd be a great bf etc. Whereas now I see him completely differently.

Ross is mostly mocked for his intelligence and his interest in science. One of his most redeeming features. I've read theories that the current hostility to 'experts' started with the anti-intellectualism of Friends, believe it or not! (I think that's a bit of a stretch myself.)

I love Friends. I am the same age as the characters and I feel like I grew up with them. Friends on Thursday night provided our water cooler moments on Fridays.
My favourite character is Chandler. He's just adorable and I love him and Monica. They adopted their babies around the same we adopted ours son.
I think it's hilarious. But I've watched them all so often that there are no surprises any more.
My absolute fav episode in the one with the holiday armadillo.

Definitely a stretch. Geeks were always a bit 'uncool'.

Idea for a Buzzfeed article - Did Ross Gellar Cause Brexit? Grin

I’m watching the male Nanny one and it’s winding me up so much. Ross asking if he’s gay, or at least bi. What a knob.
