Is anyone rewatching Friends on Netflix?

I was a big fan back in the day and thought Ross and Rachel were so romantic but upon rewatching, he's really unpleasant isn't he? Controlling, manipulative, gaslighting - I bet she lived to regret not taking the job in Paris!

And Joey is meant to be a big stud but he's just a bit of a sex pest and extremely stupid!

And yes I know it's "just a tv show" but it's funny how I'm noticing these things now and didn't when I first watched it.

I think Ross was very insecure as his wife left him for someone else, and he was now with the girl he'd loved from afar for many years.

Anyway, as I said way, way up thread, Dd loves it, but sees all of these things that I didn't, it is of its time, but it is still funny.
She was watching the Ep when Phoebe meets Mike's parents yesterday, I'd forgotten about that one, and the two of us cracked up.

jack2001 agreed Mark is a creep, but Rachel is not interested, so Ross’s reaction is way over the top.

Why are all their clothes so gigantic? Especially the guys - massive jumpers, coats etc. (Just at end of S2)

TheCatsWhiskers · 21/01/2018 16:47

I feel The Big Bang Theory is even worse, I hate it!

100YearsOfVote · 21/01/2018 22:34

Wow Ross is such a fucking arsehole from when they first get together. It's gross so gross. He's such a hideous dick.

In the 90's I thought he was great! Shock

Gwenhwyfar · 21/01/2018 22:41

110Years, were you not around in the 90s?

100YearsOfVote · 21/01/2018 23:09

I'm a couple of years younger than the Friends.

I don't remember everything Joey wearing being at least 2 sizes too big.

100YearsOfVote · 21/01/2018 23:10

Apart from "Stop Making Sense" I don't recall gigantic clothes being a thing in the 90's.

DeleteOrDecay · 22/01/2018 09:17

Was the big clothes thing an American thing I wonder? I remember watching a lot of American kids shoes in the 90's and the boys all seemed to have massive clothes too.

*shows not shoes!

dingdongdigeridoo · 22/01/2018 15:58

Baggy was a big thing in the 90s. You had the whole grunge style which still influenced clothing later in the decade. Everything was cut in quite an unflattering way. Men looked like they were wearing their dads suits.

mikado1 · 22/01/2018 16:05

I had baggy Lee Cooper Jeans, ridiculously oversized red denim jacket and red wrangler check shirt. Thought I was the biz! Grin

100YearsOfVote · 22/01/2018 16:08

OMG Mikado you've given me flashbacks - I actually had an over sized pale denim jacket I was very proud of Blush

mikado1 · 22/01/2018 16:18

Ha ha! And bubble toe Docs to complete the look. I also had an oversized green cord shirt! Grin

100YearsOfVote · 22/01/2018 16:24

I could only dream of owning DM's in the 90's. I lived in NZ and they were incredibly expensive.

Eggzandbacon · 22/01/2018 16:33

Ross is ridiculous but he playing the fool. 2 of my fav episodes are about him - one where he gets a tan and one where he gets his teeth whitened.

mikado1 · 22/01/2018 16:54

And what about the leather pants?! Or the filthy apartment of his date?

My Docs were my school shoes!

NewYearNiki · 22/01/2018 16:56

It was shit the first time.

MsHarry · 22/01/2018 17:06

Been watching it on Comedy central for years. Love it, always makes me laugh.

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/01/2018 17:15

The leather pants is one of the best episodes.
"It's made a paste"

mikado1 · 22/01/2018 17:36

Been watching it with my 10 year old which is interesting. I was about the same age first time I watched it and chandler was my absolute favourite mainly because he’s sarcastic probably.

My 10 year old’s verdict so far:

Chandler is horrible to Janice. She’s annoying but she doesn’t deserve him being horrible to her.

Phoebe is a goddess.

Joey is a really good friend to everyone.

Monica wasn’t really that fat when she was fat.

Ross and Rachel were on a break but he was still out of order to go to bed with that other lady. And Ross was out of order about Rachel’s new job.

Carols wife Susan is cool no wonder carol dumped Ross for her.

Not much love for Ross in this house! That said, he does get some amazing stories the tanning booth one is amazing!
