Anyone else looking forward to this? The writer also wrote the recent Robbie Coltrane drama, National Treasure, and Sarah Lancashire is always superb.

I was wondering if Kiri’s went back to the house, found FM with her boyfriend, ran off ...
Thought the FD offering to take the blame was strange - he’s obviously very sure his son did it.
I thought it had been proved that Kiri’s real Dad was elsewhere and they had cctv of him - fm lying about the car is going to look very odd especially when taken together with her lying about why she was off school.
Did the deleted photo show the son acting inappropriately with Kiri?
I don’t feel we are much further forward and Sarah Lancashire was hardly in it this week. I’m beginning to think social workers were wrong to place Kiri with her foster family, not because of racial differences, but because they seem so entirely unsuitable in so many other ways.

It's is a bit We need to talk about Kevin.' Boy has unhealthy relationship with mother and murders the sister who was the apple of the mother's eye.

DextroDependant · 25/01/2018 17:22

I think it was foster mum but it is a bit too obvious.

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 17:27

Stephen Mackintosh (foster dad) has been surprisingly low profile so far given the actor tends to do leading roles. Could it be him? Jealous of the relationship between Kiri and Foster mother?
I'm convinced Kiri has met one of the family. She's sad something about getting to know her biological dad or family and they've got upset and lashed out. I just don't know who!

LilyBolero · 25/01/2018 19:19

There is something very strange; witnesses sighted her at the Downs with her birth Dad, so that is where they searched and found her body.

But according to the police, Kiri was separated from her birth father, and got a bus home, so how did her body then get back to the Downs? And is that a coincidence that her body was found where she was seen with Nathaniel?

Si and his mother have a very odd dynamic and relationship - I wonder if he is abusing her. I also wondered if he had aspergers syndrome - some of the conversation was reminiscent of teens I know with ASD.

I think we will learn more about the father in episode 4.

Achafi · 25/01/2018 19:39

The way the sin was made me think that he had been sexually abusing Kiri, hence the deleted photo. The foster mum found out about it and was scared that Kiri would tell someone leading to her son being imprisoned. To protect him she murders Kiri and is trying to frame the birth dad to keep her family together.

Clawdy · 25/01/2018 19:42

But the son said she had remarked that she loved Kiri more than him. Really can't see her killing Kiri, even though she is not a likeable woman. I think Kiri was the centre of her life.

Achafi · 25/01/2018 19:44

I'd forgotten that. Maybe the son doesn't know she killed Kiri?

RunningjustasfastasIcan99 · 25/01/2018 20:47

Never mind the plot line, how much definition does the foster mums back have???!?? She must really workout!

Wingedharpy · 25/01/2018 20:47

My theory, based on bugger all, :
Son had been involved in something innapropriate with Kiri.
Son and Kiri arrive home, FM upstairs.
FM comes down to hear tail end of argument between kids and Kirk tells son she is going back to Grandad and is going to tell him what has been going on.
Son flips and he kills Kiri.
He and his Mum take body to where it was found in an attempt to implicate birth Dad.

Wingedharpy · 25/01/2018 20:48

Kirk = Kiri

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 21:22

Winged I can buy that.

NotPennysBoat · 25/01/2018 21:29

But if FM and son are both 'in on it', why was she asking him where he was that day, when they were in the car together?

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 21:37

Aah good point.

Desmondo2016 · 25/01/2018 21:40

I enjoyed the first 20 minutes of episode one before I had to pause it for some child related reason. 2 weeks later and i havent bothered catching up. It just didnt have enough depth to hook me.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 25/01/2018 21:56

Just watched the latest episode on catch up - I'm gripped!
I really want to know who did it!!!
I keep switching between the son, FM and FD!
The son probably has the biggest motive (his mum said she loved Kiri more than him....) but maybe it's too obvious?

purpleme12 · 25/01/2018 22:07

I don't think it has to be 'not obvious' all the time though

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 22:21

In National Treasure, the outcome was actually the most obvious ie Robbie Coltrane's character was guilty but it was so cleverly written I had my doubts all the way through. My gut says it's the Mum and the ds knows which is why he's acting weird.

SoleBizzz · 25/01/2018 22:33

Coukd it be Kira's Step Grandmother?

Wingedharpy · 26/01/2018 01:11

Mum asking where son was that day does make sense as she believed he was at school during the day but it turns out, he wasn't.
Killing of Kiri took place after school hours. (I don't know if it did or not - I just made that up to fit my theory).

LillianGish · 26/01/2018 06:37

FM is now trying to frame Kiri's dad - is that because, like her husband, she too believes their son is involved or is it because she is the killer? Are the tissues on the bed and the T-shirt in the bin clues as to what happened when Kiri came back to the house? If Kiri came back to the house, how and why did her body end up back on the Downs? Why did the son go and see SL? New information this week comes in the form of the FM's affair and the fact she is suspended from school for hitting a pupil - so we know she's good at lying and prone to lashing out - could she have killed Kiri accidentally (except strangling is hardly a lashing out type injury). Hearing about how much the FM loved Kiri doesn't mean she didn't kill her. Maybe she killed her to protect her son in some way (from what what she might say about him?)

Italiangreyhound · 26/01/2018 07:57

I think we are being led to think foster family but won't be them!

She seems to not really respect her husband at all. He is offering to go to jail, supposedly for their son and she says 'no' not because it's wrongi (and no thank you) but because he'd cock it up.

Would they dealt cover for son?

I think it is unlikely.

Italiangreyhound · 26/01/2018 07:58

Would they really cover for their son -I mean.

Dulra · 26/01/2018 08:29

After reading some of your theories I wonder whether it was the fm. Lying about the Gold BMW is about framing someone else for the crime. There are only two reasons she would need to do that: 1 she thinks the son did it so wants to throw police off his scent or 2. She did it. She seems such a calculated person I really wonder whether she did it as some warped view that she was protecting Kiri. Protecting her from her biological family and dad, protecting her from her son.. just like the murder suicides that happen. She admitted to her lover that she followed SL to the GP's house so we know it was her that followed but she seemed to imply that she saw the guy in the gold bmw but never realised it was the Dad and if she did she could have stepped in and stopped the visit. Maybe when Kiri got back to the house and told her it was the Dad she got so angry, not with Kiri but the situation and with herself for allowing the visit that she thought this was the only true way to protect her.

God I'm rambling now Grin

LillianGish · 26/01/2018 09:17

What was wrong with the deleted photo - why delete that one? I feel this is in some way significant otherwise why show it?
