Anyone else looking forward to this? The writer also wrote the recent Robbie Coltrane drama, National Treasure, and Sarah Lancashire is always superb.

Ta.

That's disturbing.

Italiangreyhound · 24/01/2018 23:32

"Then he grabbed her towel and she sat on the loo seat and he threw it back to her - the towel, not the loo seat!

I must go to bed, night all.

Italiangreyhound · 24/01/2018 23:33

Yes, very.

purpleme12 · 25/01/2018 01:18

I think it could be the foster son. I don't think they're trying to hide that are they. But of course I'll probably be wrong now!

I did also wonder if he had some sort of special needs.

It seemed to me the bathroom scene was about him having power over his mum, trying belittle her. Either way the episode freaked me out a bit with the son.

I don't think the police officer can have believed her?

It was great seeing Big Mac in it!

lucylouuu · 25/01/2018 03:02

it looks like in the next episode the BD gets charged even more just because of the pretend car sighting. I reckon BD will go down but Simon will have done it and got away with it!

blueskyinmarch · 25/01/2018 09:02

Italiangreyhound. The rules regarding what foster carers can and can't work must be different depending on where they are based. I sit on fostering and adoption panels for my LA and foster carers definitely need one person who doesn't work and is available during the day.

Italiangreyhound · 25/01/2018 09:59

@blueskyinmarch Yes, I think many rules about this may vary. I'm not disputing what it's like in your area but I know our son's foster carer had a job, it was very much a part-time job and one which she managed to combine with foster caring. So I know of cases in real life where a foster carer had a job. The link I found was clear about full-time work being pretty much a no, but the person I know of worked part-time.

Twogirlsandme · 25/01/2018 10:02

In our area foster carers with school age children can also work outside the home.

Clawdy · 25/01/2018 11:04

I too think the birth dad will go down for murder. I can see a final scene of foster mum sitting in Kiri's room clutching one of her teddies, with an agonised look on her face as she realises what she's done to protect her son.

HouseOfMouse · 25/01/2018 11:40

I actually think that the truth will come out in the end - whatever it is - but then it will become clear that the foster mum has tried to frame the birth dad (so heightening race tensions?).
Possibly the real issue will then be who approved the foster family, who are clearly dysfunctional at the very least. (I assume that social services didn't know that the foster mum had been violent to a child at school, for example - imagine the field day the press would have about that if it came out. And then there's the creepy inappropriate brother.)

Dulra · 25/01/2018 12:08

I think this has been made by the same people as National treasure with Robbie Coltrane. I won't put any spoilers in because I think it is still available to see but if it is similar we may find out what happened to Kiri but not necessarily the characters

Dulra · 25/01/2018 12:12

Sorry that's not very clear. I meant we the viewers may see footage of what actually did happen to Kiri but this is only for our benefit and is not known by the characters

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/01/2018 12:20

Oh that’s an interesting thought dulra. I haven’t seen national treasure so no idea what happens. Will be good to hopefully Get an answer.

deadringer · 25/01/2018 13:22

I wonder will the last episode be from Kiri's perspective. I think the foster parents only have one car which the dad had taken to work. If Kiri did return home and her fb let her in and was playing with her, he could have caused her death accidentally but someone must have helped him move the body. I don't think any of the family did it though, it's just too obvious and I think lazy. Maybe Kiri couldn't get an answer at the door so returned to her GPS house, or maybe she lost something at the woods and went back for it and was killed by a stranger. I really feel the whole drama is more about exploring the care system and it's policies/mistakes than it is about Kiri's death. Just musing at this stage. I am really enjoying this thread and can't wait for next week's episode.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/01/2018 13:25

I was almost certain that the car FM followed SL in was a saloon type car but then later her and her son were sitting in a jeep type car. could be wrong though.

deadringer · 25/01/2018 13:36

Donny I am crap when it comes to cars but last night it showed the fm asking her husband for the car keys because she had to go out, (to follow sl and Kiri) and her dh said he needed it to go to work. It would be very odd if they didn't have two cars though, money is no object and though the ds uses his bike for school I imagine she would need a car to ferry Kiri around.

Lottapianos · 25/01/2018 13:59

National Treasure is one of the best TV series for some years if you ask me. Similar to Kiri in many ways - unsettling soundtrack, odd camera angles, brilliant acting, blurred boundaries between family members. Not an easy watch but well worth a view

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 15:08

So what is she claims to have spotted the gold bmw? Surely that's easily disproved by CCTV?
Omg the difference between the way the police dealt with searching the foster parents' home and the way they treated the biological son was night and day. The biological gf is so naive. He really believes the police want to do the right thing. He should have accepted the lawyer's help.

Figgygal · 25/01/2018 15:28

The foster mum has been annoying me since the start and after last night I can't bare her.

ALemonyPea · 25/01/2018 15:49

Last nights episode was very much ‘Let’s Talk About Kevin’. The son is quite creepy.

I agree it’s too obvious that it will be him, so the twist? I think it’s the FM, she did it in a fit of rage maybe?

Umakemefeellikedancing · 25/01/2018 16:40

I love this drama. Some great acting from all the cast. I think there is something iffy going on with FM & FSs relationship - just wierd. I'm inclined to think that maybe it was the foster mum.

Italiangreyhound · 25/01/2018 16:45

I don't think it will be foster mum but they are setting it up to look like it was her.

Umakemefeellikedancing · 25/01/2018 16:53

Maybe it was the GD. Showed him in church service, could be maybe very religious, maybe he went into a rage. He seemed a bit scary in some scenes.

Italiangreyhound · 25/01/2018 16:57

@Umakemefeellikedancing are you equating religious with rage?

ALemonyPea · 25/01/2018 17:01

The first episode, I thought it might be the GDs wife, but she hasn’t really had much screen time.

Looking forward to next weeks finale.
