Anyone else looking forward to this? The writer also wrote the recent Robbie Coltrane drama, National Treasure, and Sarah Lancashire is always superb.

You missed a 5 second shot of the foster father sitting at a table

StripySocksAndDocs · 01/02/2018 20:58

Not worth it then!!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 01/02/2018 21:04

I actually loved the final episode. Open ending at its finest.

topcat2014 · 01/02/2018 21:54

Great drama.

Is it bad that I was also coveting the foster family home and kitchen, and stained glass on the stairway - whilst of course taking in the serious topic of the drama :)

Beeziekn33ze · 01/02/2018 23:06

Second series to try and fill in the plot holes, anyone? Even more of a let down ending than the series with the consultant who'd raped the actor who got raped in Downton. I feel I want the script writer in the dock!

Arkengarthdale · 02/02/2018 00:58

Oh topcat me too!

TheShapeofYou · 02/02/2018 06:55

You know what the OP of this thread should do? Contact MNHQ and see if they can get the writer of Kiri in to do a Live Q&A where we can rip him to shreds quiz him on all the unanswered questions! Smile

One of mine would be "what was that bit where the Mum sniffed the tissues in Si's bed all about?"

Fournickate · 02/02/2018 10:52

It was lazy that we only found out about the foster dad's guilt by him breaking down and admitting everything to his son. This is a cheap ploy mostly used in low brow US detective dramas. I expected better from Channel 4.

I mean, how many criminals/murderers actually do this? Concoct a story, go and do appeals on TV, play the grieving family then at the last minute go "Oh yeah, it was me, sorry".

Disappointed.

I agree, I didn't get this bit.

Was there meant to be some kind of sexual tension between the mother and the son? They were both complete fucking weirdos

Figgygal · 02/02/2018 12:10

Well glad that's over Grin

Farmerswife36 · 02/02/2018 15:15

The bathroom scene was seriously weird . The mam looked super super thin and had zero breast tissue . It was uncomfortable to watch . The whole thing was weird and I didn't like SL at all in this . This type of character just didn't suit her

LillianGish · 02/02/2018 15:24

What a let down - almost as if the writer couldn’t be bothered to finish it off properly. I suspected something a bit open ended as with National Treasure, but at least with that you knew who was guilty and what happened at the end of the trial. This felt much more unfinished - I can’t believe the prosecution of the Dad would go ahead on such flimsy evidence. I feel the investigation would have continued so the FD might yet have been arrested and charged. The writer hadn’t got to the end of the story. I like the fact that it made you question who actually needed protecting - the son was going to end up in boarding school - so a form care anyway. He’d obviously been completely f*** up by his parents. It also gave a pretty grim portrayal of social work as a profession - their mistake was not in letting Kiri see her natural family, but in placing her with such unsuitable foster parents in the first place so they were kind of to blame, but any investigation would be looking at the wrong aspects of what went wrong.

I agree....

my interpretation of this scene was that the Son being fully aware of her affairs.. felt she behaves like a cheap tart anyway so why hide you body now ... Hmm

but that's just my thoughts..... Flowers

BanyanTree · 02/02/2018 17:16

I thought the boy had some kind of Oedipus complex and both hated and loved his mother.

I enjoyed parts 1-3 and thought 4 was lame.

Lottapianos · 02/02/2018 17:33

'I thought the boy had some kind of Oedipus complex and both hated and loved his mother. '

I agree. He loved her and was desperate for her affection but she was ice cold with him. He may also have been jealous that she was spending time with her other man rather than him. I felt very sorry for him in the final episode, especially being shoved off to boarding school, and hearing her say 'i love you too' with no emotion

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 02/02/2018 17:48

I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve finished with the impression that the show was more about the foster Mum than Kiri/social services/adoption etc. I know that’s what it was supposed to be exploring but it did seem to centre more on what the foster Mum was thinking/feeling/doing and her history.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 02/02/2018 17:49

Like as if this was her story.

Gemini69 · 02/02/2018 18:06

yes.. maybe... Hmm

sadly she wasn't remotely likable Flowers

Optimist1 · 02/02/2018 19:03

I usually dislike loose ends with these dramas, but was OK with this one. As a PP has said, it turned out to be less about Social Services than I thought it was going to be, and more about the middle class veneer making a truly fucked up family appear to be worthy candidates for adoption. I kept trying to weigh up whether the birth family or the adoptive family were more flawed (and didn't come to a conclusion).

Ginger1982 · 03/02/2018 21:21

I can't believe I wasted 4 hours of my life 🙄

TheShapeofYou · 03/02/2018 22:58

Ginger1982 why do you say that? Did you not enjoy most of it?

I've started to realise that tv dramas are like sex... it's not all about the climax Wink

Ginger1982 · 04/02/2018 20:17

Maybe I was just expecting something different. I thought it was quite boring...

Gemini69 · 04/02/2018 20:23

it was Crap... you watched like we did for 4 hours for a naff crap ending.. the poor sod in jail who doesn't deserve to be there.. the smug bolshy copper that couldn't find her dress sense never mind an actual criminal... adoptive family are so fucked up its astounding they were considered appropriate potential parents....

it was absolutely a waste of 4 hours.. based on the crap ending Grin
