200yr old baby - Roger?!

Jumping into the thread here - got to be Brianna, conceived in 1746, born in 1948.

TempusFuckit · 04/12/2017 17:40

I didn't catch all of the prophecy - can anyone oblige? It's teeing up the 1960s stuff nicely isn't it - I remember enjoying that in the books.

The cliffhanger from one novel end to the next's beginning - can't imagine having waited four years or whatever it was to find out how that resolved itself!

LonelyOversharer · 04/12/2017 18:05

Yy it's Bree. Gellie is just batshit. I'm afraid it's all going to end in tears for her next week. Tbh they made that a lot more clean cut and easy to grasp than the book.

Are we going to have a book read along from the very start once we've done next week? I'm up for that, can do so many chapters each week, then come on to chat tear to shreds DG's work. But we have to read every word, no skipping pages (and pages) out!

Bets being taken on how Jamie gets away to save the day (I recon LJG will have a lot to do with it), but I think it's actually Claire who saves Ian?

MoNigheanDonn · 04/12/2017 18:07

Ill be reading from the very start lonely

I couldn't stop laughing at Geilis' goat blood bath Blush It was hilarious. Were they going for old-timey vintage movie?

I'm up for reading from the start! My editions are all Kindle though so please let's make chapter names clear.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/12/2017 18:31

200 year old wean is Brianna. Geillis figures it out and, in the book, is going to use one of the photos to help her travel forward to help her rule Scotland. She has never abandoned her jacobite dream, obviously. She is going to come to a well deserved sticky end.

John grey is bound to have a lot to do with Jamie's escape. He certainly does in the book.

The writers have sanitised a lot of the worst stuff pretty well, I thought. And packed a lot in to that episode. Poor Jamie was so disappointed when William wasn't there but did you see the look between him and Claire in the queue. Dear God, I almost burst into flames (and so did Claire, by the looks of it).

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/12/2017 19:57

I hate to ruin Gelli's bath time fun, but I know from bitter experience that a large amount of blood in a container will not stay fluid, but will clot

ChrissyHynde · 04/12/2017 20:51

Is Geillis dropping hints that she knows CLaire is a traveller? Benjamin button mentioned and also something is ringing a bell about some song lyrics at the begging beginning of this episode? Or do they both know about each other ?

Marsali · 04/12/2017 20:54

Claire saw the immunisation scar on Geilis' arm so she definitely knows.

In the books they definitely know because of the scar and because Geilis shouts 1967 at Claire during the trial.

VeganIan · 04/12/2017 20:57

They both have TB vaccinations marks - they realised they were both time travellers at Cranesmuir and then Geilis was in all the stuff with Brianna and Roger when she killed husband #1 to travel through the stones her first time.

quirkychick · 04/12/2017 21:06

I thought Dougall told Claire from Geillis the 1967 in the book when she finds him looking for Jamie. Along with "I'm not sure, but I think so" about going back through the stones. Makes much more sense for it to be at the trial, though.

The blood bath is very Hammer Horror. She also referenced Casablanca when she met her in the gardens "in all the gin joints in all the world..." Of course, in the show Geillis has properly met Brianna, I think she only sees her at the stones in the book.

Middleoftheroad · 04/12/2017 21:11

There was specific mention by Jamie of giving Claire the portraits of the children for safekeeping.

Gellis put her robe on when she still had bits of blood on her. In my experience baths are better when you come out clean. Then again I'm 44 and could maybe do with some goat's blood to plump my jowels a bit...

MoNigheanDonn · 04/12/2017 21:23

I liked that bit middle

OP posts:
quirkychick · 05/12/2017 06:47

Middle I noticed she wasn't properly clean after her bath, either. Giving Claire the pictures was a lovely touch, I like that Jamie's trusted her about Willie and with his portrait.

I'm trying to remember the prophecy in the book, something about a Fraser descendant, which is why Geillis goes for Brianna. She is totally loopy, I think Lotte plays her well. Mad, but somehow plausible, whereas in the book she just becomes a caricature.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/12/2017 08:29

I'm finding the Jamie and LJG thing really, really weird. I think if this were real life, there's no way this 'friendship' would have gotten off the ground for a whole host of reasons and those long lingering looks they were giving each other at the ball was just odd.

I'd be totally on board with Jamie and LJG being proper friends. That would've been interesting- a Highlander who fought at Culloden being friends with a British Army Officer and one who's raising his son at that. But no. DG had to make it all about sex as per usual and making LJG gay and totes in love Jamie is just out and out fan fiction. It's never going to be an equal relationship.

LonelyOversharer · 05/12/2017 11:39

You're bang on there courtney clearly having J and LJG as being decent friends who deeply respect each other was way too tame. Like C and J being together without a disaster for 5 minutes.

Yes, they had those smoky glances at the ball go on for about 30 seconds too long. Just in case we didn't get that they wanted each other. Like the undressing scene in ep6, yes yes, we get it. The wedding had the looks and length of time it took to undo her neck ribbon just right.

But I am really enjoying this season. If you have time to binge a few episodes, they really work. This waiting a week thing is too long a pause!

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/12/2017 11:53

Just in case we didn't get that they wanted each other

This is just it lonely. Irl, is this likely? I think (due to traumatic events in Jamie's past and being a man of his time) he'd be utterly repulsed by LJR and his obvious sexual attraction to him, not giving him come-to-bed eyes across a crowded ballroom.

On the other hand, he's quite useful to Jamie, isn't he? LJG is hanging about doing favours for him because he wants to shag him and J is making full use of that, even if he doesn't realise it.

SenecaFalls · 05/12/2017 13:35

But the looks that Claire was giving them were priceless. Sort of like " yo, Jamie, where's my Sapphire?"

quirkychick · 05/12/2017 14:23

Courtney I know, it's a bit DG writing I'm madly in love with Jamie and so must all my other characters be: LJG, BJR, Laoghaire, Geneva... even though he doesn't want them back. As if LJG would spend his whole life pining for Jamie, when it patently isn't returned Hmm. As for how Jamie would feel about that, a very weird bromance indeed. I always think part of the attraction of Jamie, as a reader/viewer, is his love for and relationship with Claire, although it appears that quite a few nutjob fans believe Jamie is theirs.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/12/2017 14:31

Exactly! To the point where he raises his son, offers to marry his daughter, and eventually does marry and have sex with his Jamie's wife.

It's fucking weird Hmm

Yes, totally. Jamie is, of course, an extraordinary man, but I think the show has done an excellent job of making Claire an extraordinary woman. As I said, a good bromance between LJG and Jamie would've been brilliant. Adding a romantic element into all that was not necessary.

MoNigheanDonn · 05/12/2017 14:52

Bleurgh LJG and C have sex - wrong...so very wrong that's as close to shagging Jamie as he's going to get

OP posts:
Marsali · 05/12/2017 17:04

The LJG and C sex scene is yucky- there's a bit where C explains she was actually having sex with J so LJG now feels like he has had sex with J too.

MoNigheanDonn · 05/12/2017 18:08

That's a bit Envy

OP posts:
Lessstressedhemum · 05/12/2017 18:34

I have had carnal knowledge of your wife. and We were both fucking you says Lord John, Claire says the same thing later on. It's a bit grim, but I suppose they were both mad with grief.

I think both j and c take full advantage of John's love for Jamie and I also think that they know it. At least John has other relationships and doesn't spend his whole life pining.

Marsali · 05/12/2017 18:48

The whole idea of Jamie and Claire getting on separate ships was stupid anyway. A real 'I-need-to-spin-this-out-for-two-more-books' plot line.
